More Signs? Seriously?
Remember these?
They're everywhere. The City even threatens businesses with all sorts of licensing hurdles, procedural stumbling blocks or premise inspections if they decline to post these signs, all in an effort to make Chicago the most gun-unfriendly city in existence, all while gun crime remains steadily persistent and homicide totals are regularly at the top of the national numbers.
You know what we need now? More signs!
Cook County State's Attorney Eileen O'Neill Burke is launching a public service campaign across the Chicago Transit Authority system aimed at warning people who commit violent crimes on buses and trains that her office will seek pretrial detention.
The campaign will place signs on CTA buses and trains as part of an ongoing effort to reduce crime on public transit.
"It is a sign Eileen O'Neill Burke hopes anyone boarding a CTA bus or riding a train will read in detail," according to the announcement of the campaign.
O'Neill Burke said the signs are intended to send a message to potential offenders.
This is a really dumb idea, a significant misstep by O'Neill Burke.
First up, that's a BIG leap, assuming criminals (A) can read and (B) would take time from searching for victims to brush up on potential consequences.
Second, criminals know with 100% certainty that even if they're caught committing a crime, they'll be out on a SAFE-T Act release within hours, BECAUSE THEY SEE IT ALL THE TIME.
Hell, all we have to do is scan the first ten pages of the CWB blog and we can find almost twenty stories about CTA crime by persons out on parole, out on no-bail provisions, or escaped from EM bracelets.
After all those signs that don't keep the CTA gun-free, anyone with a brain knows that new signs explaining non-existent consequences aren't going to do much either.

IS THIS TRUE ??? If so, just one business owner with some balls should get together with the Illinois Rifle Association and file a lawsuit.
This could potentially become a Supreme court case.

That’s weird Burke… I thought gun crimes weren’t inherently violent and therefore not detainable under the Safe-T Act which is why everyone and their grandmother gets set free the next day. How exactly are you pursuing detention out of the blue? Typical Cook County. Make up the rules as you go along…
Back in the day there were a lot of signs which plainly stated, “use a gun go to prison.” No bail, mandatory prison sentence. Seemed to work. Not the sign the mandatory prison sentence.

The President of the CTA and the CC SA are both attorneys. This is the best these two legal minds could come up with? Time to consult the experts, Chicago Police Officers. They will tell you, they need the backing of the Command structure, the City politicians & the SAO. Then you start with zero tolerance, arrest, prosecution (no plea bargaining, no supervision & probation, no restorative justice baloney). Set all cases for swift trial, if case is lost so be it because all the other things they are doing is just a waste of time. Proceed to incarceration, the max. Once criminals start going to jail the word will get out. The uni party of Democrats have caused this miscarriage of justice. And now the DSA that is rapidly taking over the Party is calling for the elimination of the police and prisons.

Signs? Signs? We don’t need no stinking signs. We got LAWS against this, LAWS that have written consequences in them. Just saying, the signs are being put up to aide in prosecutions if someone is arrested with a gun on CTA property. There was a state Supreme Court case regarding carrying a gun on public transportation. I think the sign is like the “no trespassing” sign when you want to arrest someone for trespassing and now with the UUW im sure the state will want in narratives noting the posted signs.. this is just to help in prosecutions.

I think they should show a silhouette of a knife and a gas can and a lit match. Or maybe a hammer. The highest profile train offenses are the ones where someone was set on fire and stabbed in the neck. Seems klike they are targeting vigilantes here. Actually you are correct. In fact the Supreme Court did rule on this. Came down about 2 weeks ago. Basically overturning a ruling banning places of business that's OPEN TO THE PUBLIC from denying concealed carry gun owners to possess their weapon while in their establishments, denying their second amendment rights.
As a homeowner, you have the right to deny anyone from entering your home while legally carrying.
But signs are less expensive than actually prosecuting crimes, so she's just saving taxpayer dollars / sarc.

The sign hanging hit the Gutfeld Show on FOX NEWS. Everyone on the panel was laughing. Greg said "how come these signs are all in English" and Tyrus said when he get arrested and go to court he's gonna say 'NO SPEAKA DA ENGLISH'.
