School Drones?

It's amusing that anyone thinks this might actually work:

  • Schools in Florida, Georgia, and Colorado will begin deploying drones designed to confront active shooters.

    The drones will be put into play as soon as the upcoming school year, marking one of the latest efforts by school officials to use emerging technology to bolster campus security, The Washington Post reported Wednesday.

    At least nine schools — three in Florida, five in Georgia, and one in Colorado — will be equipped with nonlethal drones developed by Austin-based Mithril Defense.

How "non-lethal" are these allegedly going to be?

  • The drones, stored in on-campus docking stations, can be activated by teachers through a mobile app or classroom panic button and are designed to reach a reported shooter within 15 seconds.

    Operated remotely by professional drone pilots, the aircraft are equipped with flashing strobe lights, sirens, pepper gel dispensers and the ability to ram a suspect at speeds of up to 60 mph. They are also capable of breaking windows if necessary to reach a target.

A couple thoughts here - such as "What determines the schools that these drones will be deployed?" Schools with a history of violence? Because the schools that get labelled as violent aren't the schools that end up with mass shooters - look it up. And then this:

  • "....stored in on-campus docking stations..." We'll give it 72 hours before some of the little angels damage, steal or hijack the drones;
  • "Operated remotely by professional drone pilots..." It's a government program, so there will be government unions in play, meaning breaks, lunch hours, limited OT, along with failed maintenance schedules, outdated software/hardware, inevitable breakdowns going un-repaired by other union shops, etc. For obvious real world examples, look at Fleet Management here;
  • "...ram a suspect at speeds of up to 60 mph." Really? A hunk of plastic, ceramic and metal ramming a human body at high speed is going to be "non-lethal." By the way, we've got a bridge to sell you.

Now it's time to roll out the lying statistics:

  • According to a Washington Post tracker, nearly 400,000 students have experienced gun violence at school since the 1999 Columbine High School massacre, with 435 school shootings recorded during that period.

Bullshit - those numbers cover all incidents on (or near) a campus, even those that occur at 0200 hours on a Saturday night that had nothing to do with school or students from a particular campus. The real numbers are closer to under 100 per year.

And it's not gun violence....it's gang violence.

  • Two additional Florida schools — one near Fort Lauderdale and another in Tallahassee — will participate in the state's $557,000 pilot program funded by lawmakers.

Could you name the lawmakers and how much each contributed? Oh, it isn't lawmakers? It's TAX PAYER money and it's being shoveled to someone who does a flashy presentation, but is short on the details for this fantasy experience.

  • Mithril Defense founder and CEO Justin Marston said the idea grew out of the 2022 shooting at Robb Elementary School in Uvalde, Texas, where 19 students and two teachers were killed while law enforcement officers waited more than an hour before confronting the gunman.

    Marston said seeing inexpensive drones used extensively in the Russia-Ukraine war convinced him that a nonlethal version could help save lives during the critical first moments of an active shooting.

That is one helluva leap, seeing as how all the Russia-Ukraine footage involves drones carrying either a grenade or a shaped charge, designed to have a sizeable lethal blast radius....and someone thinks they can reduce that to a non-lethal response with any sort of accuracy?

It would be far cheaper to install reinforced doors, better security screening, and :::gasp!::: armed teachers.

But it's newsmax.com and they're retarded in the extreme.

It would be far cheaper to hire a few good guys like the gentleman at Wrigley
who knocked a little sense into the goofball who could not be bothered to stand for the Anthem. Or could it be that the goof was raised & not educated by goofs. A few more Sophie like woman would be a blessing
A little shame & fear are great learning lessons

will those drones get any "deescalation training" and don't worry just as soon as a drone kills a criminal by ramming into them the newly found loving family will complain the drone should have just wounded the person, just like the police should only shoot to wound

If you add speakers and use AI to blare the non-preferred pronouns of the attacker this might actually work. I can see it now...drone flies up and blares "HE is attacking the school" shooters stops and screams at the drone that he is a woman until cops arrive. Perfect

Being more proactive about locking up people who're clearly crazy would also reduce the number of such incidents. The Gabby Gifford shooter did everything short of hiring a skywriter to write "I am crazy---lock me up!" to show that he was nucking futz and nobody did a blessed thing.

This is all going to be irrelevant someday, as in-person learning facilities (and "Learing Centers) are on their way out. Technology has a way of catching up with failed, outdated things like public schools, the post office, Amtrak and public radio.

Teachers who believe their unions got their back are completely blind. The union's only job is to scramble for as much of the city budget they can, hire more teacher's and staff to pay into the political coffers (like they were forced to do when BJ was running) and then act as a PAC for the DSA/communist party. The only reason the union covers for the bad ones when they can keep it out of the news is to not draw heat on the union. As soon as something hits print or the union can't control the narrative, they get rid of them like a bad penny. The union and DSA will use the teacher's as long as it gives them more power. As soon as they've secured that power, you'll start seeing them absorb or dissolve the useful idiots. It may be a couple of decades, but that total communist control is looming if the DSA keeps promising Utopia to the next generations in the classrooms. There was a time in my life that the teachers I knew were mostly honorable people, but communism really took a hold at the university level and pumped out more of the same in those who entered teaching in the last 30 years. They think capitalism is bad....wait until the reality of communism really sets into everyday life. It's one big Ponzi scheme, only the people at the top will benefit from this new order.

IF nothing else, a drone entering a classroom or cafeteria would be a distraction to an active shooter allow LEO's a better opportunity to end the incident. These won't work in Chicago, but in Florida.... It just might help.

What a crock of shit. I remember when I started they were implementing the KRONOS time system. I know that system well. I said it would never work. I watched all the attempts and still said it will never work for Police. I have drones. Im Part 107 Certified since 2016. A drone needs attention. Updates. Calibrations. I say it again. It will never work for CPD or CPS.. Everybody will want to be the top dog but nobody will take the time to properly take care of it. CPD Probably will get a system to work. Those guys n gals at least stick together unlike CPD

Sunday Fox News interviewed the "the team" that put this stupidity together. I say stupidity because they mentioned their "team" 20+ times & that they have the top ten drone pilots in the world & one of them (as if it matters) is a SEAL Team member for 22 years. They said they want response in 3 seconds contact in 15 seconds & taking out (his words) within 60 seconds?? WTF So how is he taking him out? Ram the shooter?? And when he ducks you shoot him W/ pepper spray....... a complete waste of money. Does anyone know how & why shotguns became a "thing" in WW1 because they were used to shoot grenades as they were thrown. hunters were issued shotguns to help protect from grenades. So now this company showed off their abilities & a shotgun will take out the drone in a second!! Waste of money, Dixon knew how to stop a school shooter, have an armed officer drop the bad guy not fly around his head like an annoying insect
