Eight more Chicago police officers now face dismissal for fraudulently obtaining federal Paycheck Protection Program loans during the pandemic, City Hall’s inspector general announced Wednesday.
The officers falsified statements on government documents to obtain a total of $282,639 in federal funds intended to help small businesses during the COVID-19 crisis, according to Inspector General David Glockner’s first quarterly report.
Glockner stepped into the watchdog role in April, succeeding succeeding Deborah Witzburg. Witzburg, now chief of staff to Illinois Attorney General Kwame Raoul, previously issued reports showing a total of 28 other cops had bilked the PPP program, which was rife with fraud.
The eight officers highlighted in Wednesday’s report are accused of breaking the law, making false statements and discrediting the police department, among other things. Their names weren’t released.
Still no word on OEMC workers, of which there are dozens upon dozens.
And CPD exempt members are still being allowed to retire (with credentials) if they got caught up in this shitshow.
(on a side note, we had to call 9-1-1 the other day for an incident - the phone rang thirteen times before being picked up....that hints at staffing issues that might have something to do with them slow-walking the OEMC investigations, especially if they suddenly had to fire fifty calltakers.)

These thieves made everyone else's job harder now. They stole from the taxpayers (us). They should be in prison. If you want to be a thief, be a full time criminal, don't hide behind the star.
I believe in law and order. I also believe you are innocent until proven guilty. As police officers we should get more immunity in a court of law because how do we know if an organized gang made up accusations and evidence against us? It is a clever way to destroy law and order by attacking hard working police officers.
Before retiring, working the desk, people coming in for reports mentioned the same thing...that it. took along time for 911 to answer and in some cases either didnt answer at all or hung up on you. Cant imagine you needing the police and no one even answers.
Why are pregnant females working the desk in 019 on 3rd watch...cant do anything, taking a. break every 15 min and God forbid if something were to happen, what the hell can this pregnant p.o. even do??? Go to call back like your supposed to. 019 desk workers, esp midnights, are all clouted and useless.

Nobody “got caught up” in anything. They knowingly filed fraudulent applications, lied on federal documents, and took money meant for struggling businesses. “Caught up” is what happens in traffic, not when you commit a crime.

I called 911 not that long ago bear 811 took a while to answer. Had four guys sitting in a car next to my house dirty looking with masks on you know the type they didn’t come till about 45 minutes later even though I told him I was a copper that’s how they dispatch it late! We are being like many areas Garfield Ridge. Garcia Ridge is being invaded lots of crime being kept under wraps from the animals with the automatic weapons burglarized a vehicles looking like a military operation but yet we have no police on the west end as usual.

I once called 911 to report a fire in the garage next door. 911 never answered. I had to call the district desk and have them put it on the air.

Exempts will skate, they were the first and easiest to go after. I too had to call 911 on Monday, over a minute and a half before someone answered.
Dispatchers need to know the ARS procedures like the back of their hand. Send all these silly calls that can get reports to ARS and the public needs to be made aware too. Simple assault where the offender has left and no EMS is needed, call 311 for your report. For some reason, people just need to see the police and then they lie and say a person has a gun to try to get police there right away. That’s the stuff that needs to stop!

It’s everywhere it seems. Used to be all old timers on the desk, as it should be, ride your time out. Now? Every desk crew I see is all kids with 2-3 years on.
This is embarrassing CPD. Now, I see why Larry ran out of here. He allowed many to retire in good standing. They should’ve been fired for failing to report their ongoing investigations to the department. Each remained quiet despite the widespread media coverage surrounding government employees and PPP fraud.
Their lack of transparency and accountability is concerning, especially as it reflects poorly on the integrity of our department. Given that these individuals only came forward when confronted with the evidence. It’s imperative to consider termination to uphold our standards and set a precedent for all employees regarding the importance of honesty and communication.

Gosh, don’t you hear this everyday? Why’d you stop me? Maybe the tax paying public expects the cops to be held to a higher standard. The cops had to enter my home one time. They were searching for a lost kid and my door was unlocked and nobody home. It never crossed our minds to look to see if the cops stole our collection of humble figurines (the guy on the TV said they would be priceless). The public needs to know that the police are held to a strict standard of honesty.
There should be an annual bid for desk spots just like there is for watches. Nobody should bid once and be able to stay there for the rest of their career.

Going to straight watches was the downfall. Everybody was in the same boat when we rotated. 28 days of midnights, 28 days of afternoons, then 28 on days, and working 6 & 2. Straight watches began the whining, "I need days cuz I have kids". The boss would laugh in your face, "this your job. Quit"! We all had kids and made it work! Simple fix: either no more fully functioning officers working inside administrative spots or cut their pay!! You wanna work a desk, you get desk pay. No duty availability, no uniform allowance, no medical time etc. Guarantee you the problem will be solved.

Straight watches? I remember and worked in the good old days. You needed to get picked up by a watch otherwise you bounced between 1st and 3rd watch often with no rhyme or reason. The monthly rotation was fun when you were young. Watch parties? No comment. As time passed, with the steady watch by bid the 6/2 was a real drag especially if you got stuck on midnight.
