This actually happened at the FOP meeting?
- Things got considerably uglier when a member questioned why Lodge dues should be paying for John's personal legal defense. Instead of simply answering the financial question, John turned it into a personal attack and brought up the member's deceased husband and her children. Catanzara told Beth Svec “ you should be thanking me for getting your ex- husbands full duty death benefits for Covid !” You could feel the air get sucked out of the room.
FOP has expelled people for far less than this.
Speaking of expulsions, a question for any lawyers reading:
- should the current ruling junta lose their positions in the Lodge and the new administration opens an investigation into the questionable spending habits of the previous crowd (i.e. trips to New York, paintings, expensive steak dinners on the membership dime, etc);
- AND the investigation determines that these expenditures were not proper as they didn't benefit the membership in any way, shape or form;
- can (or will) the guilty parties be compelled to reimburse the Lodge for the improper spending on meals, plane tickets, hotel stays, etc?
We're just wondering.

When Marty Preib attempted to make a motion to stop the attorney who has still not rendered a bill since November Catanzara ruled it out of order .
Catanzara immediately summoned Otis “ Duckhorn “ Campbell for his expert analysis on his thorough knowledge of Roberts rules and he bellowed “ yes I’ll have another “ and then “ You Donahue are out of order !”

What happened at the FOP meeting when J. Rat went after Detective Beth Sven was deeply troubling. Rather than addressing the questions she was raising about what she described as possible misuse or theft of FOP dues, he brought up the in-the-line-of-duty death benefits her children received as if he personally had the authority to give or take those benefits away. Those benefits were reportedly ones her children were legally entitled to receive and should never be used to shame or silence their mother.
If the allegations concerning FOP dues are accurate, then the appropriate response should be transparency, documentation, and a thorough investigation—not personal attacks. Beth showed courage by asking difficult questions and refusing to back down.
In my opinion, going after someone because they are persistent in seeking answers is unacceptable. John may have believed bringing up her children’s benefits would undermine her credibility, but I believe it only raises more questions about why the focus was shifted away from the issues she was raising.
The members deserve answers. If an independent investigation determines that FOP funds were improperly taken, misused, or otherwise mishandled, then whoever is responsible should be held accountable under the law. Until those facts are established, the allegations should remain allegations, but they deserve to be investigated.

Begin the process and have the suck hole board conduct their hearings. It needs to begin and his handling of that union needs to come to an end!

He even reminded her that she thanked him back at that time and she went into the “how dare you talk about my children” dribble. Preib is writing this up with fake outrage. She also kept yelling out to interrupt John’s president report from her seat. After numerous requests that she can step up to the mic if she had something to say, Beth still continued interrupting. That’s when John asked her to stop otherwise he’d have the sgt at arms remove her from the meeting. At that point she went to the microphone with her melodramatics. Preib and EJ were there and they are playing this up as a fake news story. If you’re bored I suggest that you read about Beth online and how she went above and beyond to jam up two south side tact officers. One of the most disgusting displays that you’ll read about a detective. Also, you can read about her lawsuit that she filed when she alleged that she was targeted because she didn’t get 2nd watch even though she didn’t make it based on her lack of seniority.

I Ubered 12 hrs a day, waitressed and worked in many fast food restaurants to make ends meat!. The department and the pension board tried to make me give up!!! I knew the law was on my side. Sadly, I can never ever trust the CPD Dept for what they did to me. I will always support CPD officers.
It was learned in trial that the Confidential CR # that was obtained by the States Attorneys Office was Administratively Closed without even interviewing Ternad and Caulfield. How convenient!!!!!

My name is Joaquin Mendoza, I'm currently on Duty Disability from getting long term COVID in November of 2020. We were going through that chaos with cancelled rdo's and extended hours. I was the first watch Sgt in Area 5 when COVID nearly killed me and ended my career, a life's dream to be a CPD detective. I was lucky, I survived, some of our brothers and sisters didn't. I was honored to have worked with some great real police during my career. Jim Svec was of them. I worked with him during my time in 009 before making detective. He was old school and you'd always be secure with him assisting. He made shifts bearable with his always politically correct sarcasm, which some of us had. I've never worked with Catanzara, but I'm glad I never did. Can't say I'm surprised to hear he took credit for obtaining Jim's line of duty benefits for his ex wife, Beth Svec and their children at the last meeting. I was honored to work with her, a great detective out of Area 1, when I made detective. What I am shocked and disgusted by was no one getting up on stage to give him the beat down, off the stage for taking credit for Jim's family's benefits, Jim earned them by literally giving his life for this city. He was proud to be CPD, never shamed himself or any of us here. Jim was a copper that without any hesitation would give his life for any of us. He'd do it in the appropriate politically correct way ( misunderstood by most defendants). You always knew we were winning when Jim was assisting. It takes a person that has no honor, no code or pride being an officer to have the documented disciplinary record JC has. It's apparent he isn't ashamed about the legacy he leaves career wise as our president, but it's apparent he has no shame and the impression he leaves with the real police and common citizens. It takes a unique bust out, can't get right, to be the target for the numerous allegations of all types and subpoenas issued that bring disrepute to us as an organization, but the speech he gave to our members about Beth and their children shows, proves what a disgrace he is to himself, all police and to the badge. I pray for all of you every day, only another police officer realizes the sacrifices we willingly make for this job, that really, besides our families, we brothers and sisters are the only ones that we can count on. It's sad that time and time again JC has proven he's only capable of embarrassing all of us. Suggestion, commenters should identify themselves instead of posting anonymously, positive or negative, your opinions matter and knowing who gives them makes a difference with credibility. There are zero dues being paid for John's personal lawyer. It was very clear when the board voted to hire a lawyer ot was to represent the interest and members of Lodge 7 and if any person or persons became a target of the investigation he or she will then need to hire their own lawyer and the lawyer representing is the FOP will no longer represent that individual in anyway. The whole board voted yes to this and made it crystal clear that the attorney is not for any individual. Our attorney stated the same at the first gerneral meeting he attended. Anyone who thinks that Lodge 7 doesn't need a lawyer is an idiot. Any police officer knows to never speak with a fed without a lawyer. There is an ongoing investigation and until its over we absolutely need to be represented by a lawyer. So please stop with the bullshit that we hired a lawyer for John that is 100 percent a lie and the people saying otherwise knows that too.

Beth Svec was afraid of her own shadow. Myself and partner werw working in a covert car, not undercover, observed a burglary in progress at a defunct hospital in Hyde park. Called it out, bad guys caught proceeds recovered. Herself and partner did not believe us. We had to go back to the scene and walk her thru it because she thought we were lying, basically told us she didnt trust our district or u of c police...fuck you beth...you always thought ur shit didnt stink! The way that who sees fit ? This Board may not realize when these indictments are finally handed down that Catanzara is gonna blame the Board saying “ he only took their direction !”
Each and every member on this Board should have to resign and never be allowed into Lodge 7 when this is over . Time to rid this Lodge of the hangers on sitting in the hallway by the bathroom , making loud comments when members finally ask questions and finally like John said voting the way they see fit !
This entire Board is responsible for this investigation for their failure to speak up and sit quietly while Catanzara pilfers the members hard earned dues . Shame on all of you !

Well, I just read the court transcript from the appellate court for Beth Svec and wow. Beth threw those coppers under the bus, believed some random civilian from the hood who didn’t provide the video. Didn’t interview either officers individually but was mesmerized by the arrestee and his friends story. Obvi she has never been in the street c bc she couldn’t understand the concepts of police work and UUW pinches and how they come about. It basically reads as a Detective who thought she was important and was vindictive for her own personal reasons. The best part about the transcript is her midnight assignment. It’s obviously her fault but she couldn’t handle anything being her fault obvi. You didn’t get management get over it your entitled to nothing. 007 RBT in a district is always a good spot, she said she wanted to be at the area to collab and be close to supervisors. Yeah the coworkers all found you intolerable and hard to work with and the supervisors you wanted to be close to you called ugly names. If the lodge is the victim of an Embezzlement why would it need an attorney. Isn't the US Attorney the Attorney for the lodge. Let all of them get their own attorneys to prove their innocence. If you let this go on there won't be any money left for the officer on the street that may need legal help. Just think about this why should they be able to get legal help on the members dues when each one of them makes alot more without the risk of being on the street. Each of those assholes didn't know of Erie Cafe until the lodge starting paying their tab. I think there are enough attorneys that are part of the membership that can help with a class action lawsuit.

Was the audit or 990 committee shown the subpoena? Who has seen the subpoena? It should be printed out for the next general meeting in full as well as the credit card receipts (not the statement) for the members to see.
If they are not available next meeting, a grand jury indictment is foreseeable.

If an investigation determines that an attorney has failed to comply with those requirements, disciplinary action could potentially follow, including sanctions or other penalties. Just curious, waa this uuw rebuttal video ever inventoried. Then had it been time stamped? Officers ID themselves on the video as well as any witnesses? Who took the video? Where these steps any part of your investigation? How did you not do warrants , surveillance or canvass for more video let alone that one IF this was the direction eventually headed into.
