"Consent" Decree News
CPD might have almost hit rock bottom:
After seven years of effort, the Chicago Police Department has made progress on nearly every requirement of a federal consent decree, reaching at least preliminary compliance with 99% of its original requirements, independent monitors said Tuesday. But with Superintendent Larry Snelling recently retired and staffing shortages still a concern, the department faces a test of whether those reforms will stick.
The consent decree, which is overseen by a federal judge and monitored independently, requires Chicago to make sweeping changes to police policies, training, supervision and accountability. Reaching preliminary compliance means the city has begun meeting a requirement, but it does not mean the requirement has been fully satisfied.
Seven years and uncounted tens of millions of Chicago tax dollars, paid to connected lawyers (who kick back to political campaigns,) "overseen" by a former federal judge who answers to no one....this is undoubtedly one of the largest un-audited money shifts in Chicago history.
We figure there are around thirteen years to go before anyone sees "significant" documented accomplishments.
