Startling group chat messages exposed by the Chicago Thinker reveal that on Wednesday, May 1, Students for Justice in Palestine at The University of Chicago (SJP UChicago) plans to emulate recent protests at Columbia University. It becomes the latest development in a wave of protests at colleges across the country, including Yale and New York University, as tensions around the Israel-Hamas war rise.
[...] At UChicago, SJP protestors are aiming to take over the university’s Main Quad and camp out for an extended period. A Telegram group chat details their plans to occupy campus buildings and get arrested for trespassing in order to draw attention to their cause. The demonstrations will last “at least for… two nights.”
Tuition at U of C is around $65,000. The University is associated with something like 99 Nobel Prize winners in assorted disciplines. The atomic bomb was pretty much created there. The Hyde Park neighborhood is a hotbed of lib-tards. Sparklefarts taught there.
Maybe they'll burn it to the ground.
We can always hope.
In any event, don't get roped into a political protest on private University property. The Department will need everybody available in August and you don't want to be sitting at callback for any potential missteps.

Officials from George Washington University in Washington, D.C. asked the local D.C. Metro Police to clear out the protesters from their campus.
Under orders from the Mayor and police brass, Metro Police refused to arrest the protesters. The reason given was that to use force against peaceful protesters would be "bad optics."

Trespassing is a property crime. The military, trade schools and Union apprenticeship programs while get you a job that pays well, and you are not overpaying a arrogant,floozy professor for a degree that isn't worth the parchment it is machine inscribed on. Having a trade used to be the goal of young men coming out of highschool. That changed with the GI Bill. The GI bill can also be used in Trade Schools but teachers have made so called blue collars work somehow 2nd class.

I may not like your freedom of speech or agree with it. But I'll defend your right to say it, your right to peacefully assemble and your right to an redress of your grievances.
Also, mark my words. The road Mr. Desantis is leading to is going to ultimately hurt conservatives more than liberals. Because we conservatives are more vocal, more organized and more likely to challenge concentrated power.
Here’s an idea, use all of this Social Justice training and stipulations to decline to arrest these assholes. The city of Chicago screwed the pooch 25 years ago when they ruled Disorderly Conduct to be disallowed which was the key to clearing up corners full of dope dealers and gang bangers. If the Dems are going to pick and choose momentary enforcement of what should be common sense law enforcement demand permanent change, or simply say I’m not doing the bidding of an illegal unconstitutional Communist Mandate.

The ever failing of CPD trying to "fill" the ranks with no one signing nor speeding up re/hiring processes.
The solution is very simple. Give all violators Disciplinary Dismissal. That removes them from campus immediately and prohibits them from returning under penalty of arrest. Most will return to their own country and their Visas are revoked. If they are domestic terrorists, they still cannot enter campus and will not get admitted to another college for several years. That is how you end this lawlessness.

As a lifelong Chicagoan who worked in the loop during the 1968 Democratic Convention and had my eyes water everyday walking to work because of the tear gas - to quote Yogi Bera, another of my cultural heroes - "It's Deja vu all over again". I hope the democratic convention doesn't turn into the shit-show that 1968 was. When I think of all the boys who died in Vietnam (including friends and a cousin) - it makes me wonder who was right.
Side note - my uncle was good friends with Bill "Moose" Skowron. They grew up in the same neighborhood (both Chicago Polacks). We lived in the same 2-flat with my uncle's family. As a kid, I remember Moose and Yogi visiting our house when the Yankees were in town playing the Sox. Sorry for the digression.

University system is broken here in US. Lots of "degrees" that have no commercial value, that require non-profit and/or government jobs to provide a lifestyle-sustaining wage. Lots of graduates still dependent upon parents' financial support to maintain their lifestyle expectations ten, twenty years after graduation.
A lucky few college grads majored in engineering, or accounting, or nursing, or obtained their teaching certificate to work for public school systems. They at least earn a upper-middle income wage within about five years of initial full-time employment. The rest? The gender-studies, the ethnic-studies, the grievance politics studies, they're ALL either "interning", for no pay or minimum wage, or maybe employed by a progressive non-profit at a near minimum wage, or employed in government-sector as "do-something" clerical job paying a middle-income wage and great benefits for little discernible effort or accountability. Very lucky fancy-pants off-spring of rich folks get catapulted into a "daddy's business connections/friends" white-collar job, with little expectation of genuine work but proffered decent wage --- these rich dads employ each others silver-spoon kids in a sort of circle-jerk gesture of mutual help to mitigate the embarrassment of these often obviously underperforming yet always overindulged offspring.
Low and middle-income working class families' kids have relatively little access to college diploma, whether as a result of poor-performing K-8 public schooling, little meaningful educational direction from family and/or school, or lack of family funds to "match gap" between enrollment costs and often meager financial aid that's not loans.
We're beginning to realize that today's "college degree" isn't the long-term opportunity assurance it once was.
Lots of these "pro-Palestine" college kids seen protesting, are just following the herd, seeking the virtue-signal affirmation of being progressive-woke, as well as the simple social aspect of large gathering of raging young adult hormones.

I disagree. You do have the right to protest but nowhere in the Constitution does it say that you are allowed to commit unlawful acts while protesting. The Supreme Court has allowed for time/place/manner restrictions. If protesters choose not to abide by them, they should face consequences for their actions.
