Vegetable Signs WEP Bill

 A day early?

  • President Joe Biden on Sunday signed into law a measure that boosts Social Security payments for current and former public employees, affecting nearly 3 million people who receive pensions from their time as teachers, firefighters, police officers and in other public service jobs.

Advocates say the Social Security Fairness Act rights a decades-old disparity, though it will also put strain on Social Security Trust Funds, which face a looming insolvency crisis.

The bill rescinds two provisions — the Windfall Elimination Provision and the Government Pension Offset — that limit Social Security benefits for recipients if they get retirement payments from other sources, including public retirement programs from a state or local government.

For those keeping track, it doesn't effect anyone who only paid into the pension. But for those of us who had jobs prior to CPD and paid into Social Security AND/OR worked side jobs that paid into Social Security, it restores what we had earned.

It ain't going to be much, maybe a few tanks of gas. But every nickel counts after the ruined economy of the past four years.

Plus this signing will also affect spouses who are entitled to SS payments of a deceased spouse.

Benefits beyond just the cash. Look at the people running government programs, true believers who swallow any and all progressive nonsense. A newly minted attorney who starts at DoL as a 23 year old clerk, even if she works her way up to Sr. Csl, will never have the benefit of experience of a lawyer who practices in the real world where clients aren't guaranteed to stick with any firm and who will actually have to be concerned with the costs of litigation.
It might be nice to see if government could recruit some of these real world types, be they lawyers, public health doctors, or accountants, who knows, maybe things could improve for tax payers.

But if those types knew they would take a hit to their SSA benefits by going into government service and getting any pension, well, only a fool would do so.

Now, maybe, we can get some people who have a clue to come into public service.

You can actually estimate how much you'll get. Go to SSA.gov, look at the calculators, input your social security wages (you get those when you sign up with my social security) . Put the age when you started social security, either at 62, or whatever age you took it. You'll then get the estimate w/o the WEP. For me, it around it's an additional 450 monthly. The Max you can be punished in 2024 is $587 monthly.

Um...ok great. The question now is how much in federal taxes are we going to have to pay to keep this entitlement going? It's amazing that all those (like myself) that voted for Trump to decrease the size of the federal government are cheering this on. In the end these are just more government handouts and Social Security is a pyramid scheme. (I guess we'll see 10 years from now when we look at our federal tax returns.)
Remember boys and girls there's nothing more expensive than free money from the government. If the Feds are going to take 4-8% off the top of each paycheck (including your pension check) is this really worth it?

If your lazy ass never paid into it you should be happy your getting a tank of gas. For others that paid into ssi and got dinged in the end it's been a long wait to reverse the theft of our funds.

“ For those keeping track, it doesn't affect anyone who only paid into the pension.”

Bullshit. It drains the “trust fund” faster which will result in reduced benefits and/or higher higher taxes for everyone else. WEP existed for a very valid reason, given how the Social Security bend points are calculated and affect benefits, and how public employees are exempt from SS taxation.

This is a pure gift to the public employee unions. Another giant FU from the public sector to the taxpayers.

Detractors will say that this fairness will shorten the life of social security by 6 months. How many years was social security extended by the theft of benefits over many years of people who worked more than 1 job to make ends meet? When this scam was passed by the Dan Rostenkowski led(speaker of the house)the congresspeople at that time conveniently left themselves unaffected by this legislation.I guess they were not public servants.Senior citizens jumped on the hood of his car at the Copernicus Center after he left a event there in protest.

Are you confused? This law only affects government employees that paid their hard earned money into social security. I owned a small business. I paid in both sides of the social security payment, about 16%. I worked side jobs. This is a benefit that I paid for and was taken away because some people thought our pensions were too generous. This is not a gift. Only people who WORKED are entitled to it. How about this, they only pay you a percentage of your pay?

Entitlement and scam? Some of you are really stupid. For those of us who have worked in other careers or part time jobs while we were on this job, we are getting what is owed to us. We actually paid into SS. No one is giving us anything extra. We will not be responsible for draining SS. By that logic, all of us are responsible for the money issues this city is going through because we get a pension. Are you going to say it's different because money is taken out of our checks for our pension? It's not different because we fully paid into SS via money taken from our paychecks from other employment. Take your frustrations out on the welfare scammers, illegals, money thrown at other countries and corrupt politicians. That's what's draining our country.

They took the full social security amount from my checks before I got on the job/side jobs. So, give me my full earned benefits. I don’t like the idea of social security in general, but, since it’s there and they took the money from me, fuck you, pay me. This was the federal governments idea, this was their plan, don’t blame public employees who paid into it through private sector jobs for demanding they get what was promised. It’s 2 separate piles of money that have nothing to do with one another. If I paid into my pension for 20 years working for the city, and also worked another 20 years in the private sector and paid into SS, what does my pension have to do with my SS? Nothing. Federal government took my money against my will with the promise they’d pay me when I get old. So, I reiterate, fuck you, pay me. Push for a bill that reimburses public employees the percentage they’re being penalized for having a pension. But they won’t do that, they want to take the full amount from my private sector checks to help fund everyone else and pay me a reduced amount. Fuck. You. Pay. Me.

Entitlement??? I paid into the scheme for over 40 years with pre-department and post-retirement S.S. "donations". I get a 60% deduction in what would be a normal Social Security payment. Get a grip, the Dems keep telling you this will bankrupt the "Social Security Trust Fund". There is no such thing. Money taken from the "Fund" to balance the budget. Does the government every run out of money to pay welfare payments?? SSI?? paying drunks and drug addicts who have never paid a dime into S.S??

First it was voluntary, then they confiscated our money, no choice. Not to be taxed, then it was taxed. We had a trust fund, now we don't. This is not free money. The boys and girls remember.

So, my friend. They can pay me the money I and my business and employers paid into. This is not a charity, they owe me, pay me! Over $800 -$1200 per month for 13 Years. I'll pay the taxes. Give me My Motherfuckin money!
