How Much Was Crime Down?
Not nearly as much as Conehead would have you believe and considerably LESS than the national averages:

As 2024 ends, Mayor Brandon Johnson is trumpeting the city’s decline in murders and falsely claiming record homicide clearance rates as he tries to gull the public into believing that great strides have been made on the public safety front. Nevertheless, accurate statistics tell a far different story. The fact remains that the violent crime pandemic is not abating and the policies of degrading police strength, penalizing proactive policing, pre-trial release, and the failure to protect witnesses and victims are debilitating factors.
Meanwhile, there has been a concerted effort by political leaders and criminal justice reform advocates to deliberately deceive the public on the real impact of their reforms by withholding data or slow releasing it, such as SAFE-T Act data. They contract with researchers to deliberately misrepresent the data or outright lie, while supporters trumpet flawed reports, using false findings to attack opponents. A close look at the facts reveals the level of deception. Consider the following:
Chicago remains the murder capital of the nation
Let’s be clear, the downward trend in murders reported (7.3%) is less than the national trend (11.6%), as Chicago once again led the nation with 609 murders. Based on research from AH Datalytics, Chicago is tied for the second-lowest percentage drop in homicides in the country among cities with a population greater than 250,000.

And as far as violent crime (such as batteries and assaults), along with crimes such as theft and even robberies, how much of that goes unreported by victims? That’s a statistic we can’t even verify. Because I can tell you as a fly on the wall that many people choose to not report either out of a liberal “warped” sense that crime is a form of reparations as a result of oppression or even if not liberal that nothing will result from reporting it- such as recovery of property or result in anything actually being done to find the offender or if found, result in Justice. It used to be the biggest road block was victims not wanting to be saddled with time off of work for court.

I love when these clowns use the argument "per capita". Oh... PER CAPITA, Rockford is worse. Hey dummy, take Rockford and put it up against, 007, 002, 011, 015, 003 and 005. You'd have third world, PER CAPITA numbers!

I read his essay. He sounds like a first year college student. He thinks he's the voice of reason. He's just another democrat, claiming he's a savior for a demographic that by and large is everything that's wrong with the city. No, you need a fighter, not an apologist. He will change nothing. 37% voted, there's 63% of voters that know what the problem is and just sit out. Find the right message and that 63% is yours. That's how change will come, until then it's a death spiral...
If the voters continue to buy what he’s trying to sell instead of believing (or choosing to ignore) their own eyes, they deserve what they get.

In Chicago depending where you work things are up or marginal at best. The department plays with the numbers. I was sent in 2004 to a class when I was the Commanding Officer’s Secretary on how to do it. Using location codes and other data an example given was; to make it look lower for CAPS meetings or if going for grants you would make it look as bad as possible. At the time there was about ten people in the class and we were told that we had special access to PCAD and Crystal 8 Reports. The class was held at 35th and Michigan. Nothing is on the up and up on this job. Perception is reality.

Civilian in 010 here. I've had neighbors on both sides of my house move [one out of state] after having family members held up at gunpoint on our block. They never bothered to call the cops. Not b/c of some stupid "Reparations" bullshit, but simply b/c they knew CPD wouldn't do a thing to catch the perps, who were members of the gang openly running this neighborhood (LK). I see one of the gunslingers a few times a week, still brazenly wandering around knowing he's untouchable.

Paul Vallis has been such an epic disappointment. I supported him over Groot and the rest of the field when Rahm was being replaced, but he quickly turned into just another Twitter (now known as X) whiner after losing. Would he be better than Johnson right now? For sure. But every time he posts or writes he’s just announcing to the world how irrelevant he has become - or always has been.
