Years Long Problem
Back when Cuck Goudie was doing something bordering on actual investigative reporting:
- Monday, May 2, 2016 - The I-Team is investigating major equipment that Chicago firefighters say is so old it puts them and the public at risk.
They are startling figures: 40 percent of the city's fire department engines and ladder trucks are too old for safe front-line use, according to industry standards. And within a year, that fire hazard will significantly increase
The I-Team uncovered one of the worst cases: a busy Chicago firehouse with equipment from 1985, 31 years old. Firefighters say this slows down response times and puts lives in danger.
A comment yesterday cited this report and another asked if the trucks and engines from almost nine years ago might still be on the streets? We certainly wouldn't doubt it.
So this one can't be laid solely at the feet of Conehead, but it's been going on at least since the 9.5 digit midget was in charge and probably long before that.

City is mismanaged but the news plays along everything is going good.
I love Elon Musk!
He is a free speech absolutist. He cares about working people. He is finding tremendous waste, fraud and abuse in our government agencies. He is firing workers left and right. Good for you Elon.
Is this any different than the commander of ohare refusing to let the watch use the available cars in the fleet because supposedly he’s being told these are the last batch of cars we’re getting “for a long time “ not only is it a safety issue but there are cars wrapped around the building that are just sitting there and are giving the unit a false sense of manpower some of these cars have been sitting so long they have to be jumped just to get started. In the mean time officers are running around trying to find a ride to assist on a job or just Get back to the station to do police work. It’s an absolute joke !!
Maybe stop sending out fire trucks to tag along with EMTs for every bogus call? Fire trucks that should be sitting at the station are getting beat to shait every day.
I was on both the police and fire department and retired. The biggest problem for the fire department is that they are using the fire department trucks and engines to back up ambulances. I understand the need to do this in case the ambulances get delayed in cases of accidents or none available and as a result they are putting untold wear and tear on this equipment usually for BS calls were the citizens feel the will get expedited express into the emergency rooms or free transport to the hospital in many cases for BS ailments. The only solution is to employ more ambulances or reinstate BLS ambulances and use these for backup. As it is now these paramedics are working their asses off.
The CFD has to stop using fire equipment for backup. It is destroying their equipment.
Illegals are more important...they "vote"...
Maybe it’s time those CFD personnel assigned to vehicles which have passed their safe, useable life span to simply refuse to man them. When dispatched a call perhaps they need to respond with a comment to memorialize the particulars to start a paper trail. “Uh, sorry dispatch, but we’ll be unable to respond with Truck ## as the DOT dates on the tires reflect that they’re 22 years old and there’s visible dry rotting and cracks on the sidewalls. This is clearly a hazard and the likely of mechanical failure prohibits the conscientious use of this vehicle”.
I’d hope someone at every house with such equipment has also taken extensive pictures to document the unroadworthy, unsafe, antiquated conditions of same and that they’re getting some kind of direction from their union on how to proceed. I’m unfamiliar with Fireside’s “GO’s”, but I’d be refusing a direct order given by any superior to pilot a 30 ton ladder truck on shitty tires.
I’m interested to see what our CFD brethren are thinking in regards to navigating this nonsense.
Anyone else take notice at the hundred plus shinny new CTA buses used to usher DNC VIP’s back and forth to McCormick Place. Wonder if they should have bought a couple fire trucks with that cash?
The Illinois State Fire Marshall’s Office inspects everything related to fires and fire prevention. But nothing about fire department’s equiptment?
Must not be enough fat envelopes in buying replacement equipment... That's the only thing that makes any sense with this stupidity...
While we’re on the topic, can we get rid of these junk hybrid explorers already? Trump needs to bring back the crown vic
Come on now! My equipment from 1985 is in great condition! My leather jacket and my gun belt needed some mink oil…..and my Colt revolver still works great. And just before I retired I had my winter boots resoled, and still use them? Maybe the Fire guys are just too picky about their equipment? And need to stop running the trucks into Churches and keep the equipment on the streets?
God forbid there was a major event. No working fire trucks. Not enough paramedics. Small police force..It'd be over for Chicago
Off topic, never forget that Randy Darling let Chicago burn because HE didn’t want to pay overtime.
1985 is for years old!
1985 was forty years ago, not 31.
Sparklefarts Library and red line extension more important than safe fire fighting equipment.
And like clockwork, a piece of CFD apparatus dead in the water blocking 3 lanes of traffic of the Ike this morning. For hours 😂😂. The talking heads at WBBM bemoaning being diverted on their way into work.
But plenty of money for a teacher raise.
the fire dept brass is in a meeting looking for ways to name a white guy to be at fault for all this
Fire and police services are low priority for Mayor Forehead.
A big part of the problem is lack of mechanics at fleet. They posted 30 job openings, and only filled 2 positions. If you're a certified mechanic why would you work for the city with it's residency requirement and it's repair facility in Englewood? They all get paid the same, so why live in Chicago when taxes are lower and the schools are much better in the suburbs?
Do you still have your rocky the squirrel hat?
Yes. We have a front line rig (truck) that was built in 2000. Has well north of 100k miles. It's the one the wheel fell off couple months ago. No timeline or plans to replace it.
Maybe a comprehensive audit could shine some light as to where exactly fire department monies are directed and the priorities. No one forecasted a problem with aging vehicles? Or are the command staff not showing up to these more involved fires/emergency responses, opening their eyes seeing aged, rusted equipment. Maybe command staffs should mingle with the rank and file having that conversation with the troops getting feedback on ways to improve fire services gaining valuable insight on equipment shortcomings.
Is public safety really a priority in the city or are the failed public schools with their special interests with their firm grasp of the political class the actual recipient of re-directed public safety monies? Lives are at risk and no one is concerned.
City vehicles, in general are poorly maintained.
100% correct
suburbs do the same thing
Good ole randy darling from 011 3rd watch, who would be in the red heads office on a hourly basis. I have never seen Randy's name on any of my old hard checks that had the mayors, treasurers name on them. Yet these exempt act like the money is coming out of their personal accounts.
Glad that I only worked the watch with him and did not have him as a stupidvisor.
135 days since the scantron ET TEST was given. HR been sitting on the results since Dec. I’m about to FOIA the test result.
Let the mother fucker burn ! I just want to play my violin say it the blue gummed moron mayor !
Big whoop. My squad I have right now has 116,000 miles on it. When are we getting replacements for our own shitboxes.
Are you complaining from and for OHARE?
Brandon Johnson has 150+ polices on his detail. His entourage of security specialists getting paid sergeant's pay driving new wheels. Little Johnson have a fleet of brand new police vehicles not used for public safety, but his safety giving an outward façade to his importance (or lack thereof). No shortage of money for his rides. His security vehicles are brand new with low miles, curb feelers, whitewalls, kicker boxes and shiny rims. Little Johnson has nocturnal emissions dreaming of the size of his fleet. You better recognize my brand spanking new huge-ass SUVs given my elevated pimp-like status. Meanwhile fire heroes ride in antique rusted junks giving the appearance of third world schmucks under some authoritative regime hell hole.
Kind of reminds me of the Biden administration...
Paramedics work 2 days a week. How is that working their asses off?
Doesn't Randall Darlin look like Fire Marshall Bill from In Living color?
Remember the story about the Hummer given to Ohare by DHS? It was sitting there with four flat tires. Nothing would surprise me about the airport units. They are and have always been useless.
"You gonna burn up Joe" given the sad state of affairs demonstrated on the fire side
Rumor is that Elon will also be coming to Chicago due to clauses in grant funding. The DEI wasteful spending is the top priority. Red line south expansion is not happening, it’s going for blue line west service time improvement and expansion to court house and Loyola medical center.
The expansion of red line to altgelt gardens is doa. Total waste of money.
Retired here...During my career, a lot of government money was doled out to Chicago. From money to hire more officers to "get more police on the streets" in the 90's to community policing grants to fund "safe streets" to money to build things like the now closed JISC. As I Understood it that project cost six million dollars to refurbish that old building and get it running. There was money granted to pay for a personell staff and Chicago just threw it into the general fund. The third floor was never completed and the work was substandard. It was open for less than 10 years. Equiptment, manpower, and vehicles were siphoned off over those years until it just couldnt operate any more.
From CPD computers, to CPD radios the city has let our equiptment fall into disrepair. A lot of them were bought with federal monies.
Anyways...now that the government spigot has essentially been turned off, I dont expect that thigs will get better anytime soon, until priorities begin to change for this city. When public safety become a priority again, there may be some investment in some new equiptment. And i imagine that some federal funds will be available for legitimate expenses.
Its important that we shut down the money going to these illegals. BIllions of dollars spent and nothing to show for it. Blue sanctuary cities have rested their agenda on the federal dollars for too long.
Be safe and dont get hurt due to equuiptment issues.
Haha free speech? Say something negative about Israel on X and see what happens.
Crown Vic production ceased in September of 2011. I have a decommissioned Police Interceptor that was built two months earlier. With just 186K miles on it, the thing's still a beast. And I can see how you would miss the interior space.
Fact, the worst thing for any motor vehicle is continued periods of non use. Those trucks aren’t getting hurt from a daily run, it’s good for them. Cat, Cummins, I H and Mack diesels routinely go a million miles before a frame out overhaul. Now if they’re getting the shit pounded out of them unnecessarily by abusive personnel that’s a different story. Kind of like our officers beating the shit out of squads then complaining about having to use a pool car.
With proper maintenance those trucks can do 15-20 years standing on their heads. Now the ambulances are a different story
whats the president of local #2 have to say about this
You might ask why the city is electrocuting dogs too while you're at it.
Yeah, a democrat is running the place, just like CA.
Absolutely! My dad (RIP) had two fire trucks and a rescue squad. Did NOTHING! "He's fine!" Asked dad "do you want to go to the hospital?" Yes! Went. He had a T I A (minor stroke) and was put into end of life housing (as directed by State of Wisconsin) and so the EMTs could go back and play cards, I guess. Still carry the torch for dad. I'm still bit by this all these years later. Though, dad knows I did my best.
Anyone see the new order on responding to incidents involving citizenship? The street deputy will respond, along with…. the wol. Interesting how they left the commander and captain off of it. Why wouldn’t they respond? Or be required to respond? Dumping it all on the WOL’s as usual as they skirt without any responsibility or liability.
When was this Darlin incident of OT pay refusal?
I worked on 31May20 but was off the day before when the tides really turned. We weren’t even called to come in on an emergency all hands on deck situation like we should have been. I worked for Darlin prior to that day and it was above his pay level or any other Lts to get us in to help out, correct me if i’m wrong. My buddy who was the desk sergeant that day said he never felt so defeated in his 28 years on the job. And yet none of us were called in to assist. Why was that….
Farm-out the shuttles out to private, or independent, livery firms + One week expense and done + No reoccurring personnel or equipment expenses = $$ for critical functioning expenses. Go DOGE.
One word DEI.
Who is the Randy Darling you speak of?
Randy was one a cops cop. Not a keyboard warrior.
Where's Commissioner Quinn when you need him?
That would make sense, so they won’t do it
They are probably waiting for CPD to get some so they can say "Me Too"
He's at Holy Sepulchre Cemetery rolling in his grave. I'd give you his grave address, but you just have to look for the disrupted dirt.
CFD has the BEST deal in this city. Always has. Retired CPD. They never worked midnights, dealing with domestic baby momma drama all night, chasing boo with a gun down an alley at 0230, then fighting fuckstiicks the whole tour of duty. Went home to get a couple hrs sleep and then off to court for 6 hrs. Back home. Then back to roll call a few hrs later and do the same shit for yrs. We used to rotate shifts backwards every 28 days. Would see some CFD at fires, which we got called to protect, and saw many drunk. Never saw CPD behind me while chasing the shit bird with a gun down the alley at 0300. No offense, but count your blessings while sleeping in the bunkhouse. You have it as good as useless drunk CPS teachers. Except you live in city? They have never while employed by CPS. Orland Park, Evergreen Park, Oak Lawn, worth?
As noted above, the Crown Vic is long dead and buried --BUT-- there's hope!
The ford Taurus in either the SHO or Police Interceptor versions absolutely rocks.
Wife has a 2019 SHO.
She's 62 so her reflexes aren't what they used to be but, she still kicks the shit out of 'Vettes and 'Stangs on a regular basis.
You are killin me!! "Back to the station to do police work". HA!!!!! Lot of domestic calls out there? Lots of Taser/weapon discharge incidents? Typical copper....complaining they are hungry when they have 2 loaves of bread under each arm. If it is so bad, I am sure a District would love to have you and all your "police work".
Put em on school busses.
Grew up in the western 'burbs in the 60s & 70s.
Town FD had a hard and fast rule - EVERY piece of rolling stock got parked in the empty lot behind station #1 on its 15th birthday where it sat until it could be sold. Fire chief had a waiting list of little departments anxious to get their hands on our retired equipment. Often, units were sold for $1 on an inter-governmental transfer. As I understand it, most 'burbs had a similar system.
In 40 years, I never saw a truck sit out for more than a couple weeks.
Try 80 ambulances for 3+ million people. Worst ratio for any major city in America .They're not riding to bogus calls to help EMTs they're riding out to nonsense calls because there are often no ambulances available period! During the "ice-capades" last week fire companies were waiting on scene for upward of 20+ minutes on scene with legitimately injured people. Waiting for an ambulance, any ambulance, from anywhere in the city to become available for transport. fFD Union has been pleading and begging for more ambulances for over a decade with nothing from the city.
Many of these city ambulances run 20+ calls in 24 hours. 24 or even 30 runs in 24 hours is sadly a common thing. City medic don't get to sit down for a meal Let alone play cards.
Yet, let's waste $300 million on illegals who are not supposed to be in this country and in effect are trespassers!
"Rumor is that Elon will also be coming to Chicago ... The DEI wasteful spending is the top priority... Red line south expansion is not happening...
The expansion of red line to altgelt gardens is doa....Total waste of money."
Let's hope so. The red line extension to Altgeld Gardens is a corruption filled cash cow for Walsh Construction and other clout heavy, kickback happy construction firms. The far south side with few exceptions is a destitute, poverty stricken, violent wasteland. Large scale factories and businesses will NEVER again set foot anywhere between 95th to 130th, from the Dan Ryan I -57 to I- 94 . Even Barack Obama, who had the choice of building the Obama Center on Chicago's far south side gave that proposal a BIG thumbs down. The CTA Red Line is the worst of Englewood, Gresham, Roseland on wheels-nothing but blood, chaos, crime, mayhem, pestilence, violence and death. CPD Mass Transit Unit is a FAIL and will fail the proposed Red (dead) line extension..the only businesses that will profit from it are drug dealers, hospitals and funeral homes.
Your Eisenhower jacket probably needed elbow patches
Show me a good suburb with lower property taxes then the city...moron
Thought Goudi retired, but just saw he’s moved to NBC.
OT: Check this article out from Fox News. Pretty interesting about BWC

I work for the VFD fire department fund raiser. We buy used fire trucks with a monthly garage sale. It takes us three years to buy a used truck for $25,000.
They can do the same. Tom
Retired and still wear my Rocky The Squirrel hat. I like the fur, ya feel me.
Who remembers the pool cars with no floors below the front seat? You needed to find cardboard to use as your floor. Like a Flinstone car.
Different funding for each of those projects.
Exactly. They do that shit in my suburb. The difference is out here, since there’s really never any fires, they can make their statistics look better by sending the truck out on every senior citizen ambulance call which is the overwhelming majority of the calls.
Although here all firefighters are paramedics. They say sending the whole fire house out on every ambulance call guarantees the best (medical) coverage. I’d be interested in the opinions here about that. Is that legit?
They could be working their asses off if they are responding to nonstop calls 24x7 during those two days a week. I know an old timer that was a CFD paramedic back in the late 70s and he quit after a couple of years because of that. I suspect it might be worse now, but not sure about the staffing.
Firefighter/EMT’s are not chasing EMS.They are paid for being cross-trained.They are part of EMS.They are doing their job.The fire department is not your grandpas department any more.Based on call volume the name can be changed to the Chicago EMS department. Not all fire calls are legit either.Quit whining.
Who is the goofball sgt at homan square always complaining about the weights getting dropped in the gym . Listen up tuff guy that gym has been there long before you have gotten there.
Where is the fop on any of our results for tests? Why does it take so long for results to come out. Its a complete joke
Haha free speech? Say something negative about Israel on X and see what happens.
2/16/2025 09:24:41 AM
Israel is America's number one ally. Get an education and learn about our special history.
And the missing foam on the steering wheel like someone bit it. Or the pen notes on the ceiling with old jobs. or the old trash under the seats. or the grease/BBQ sauce on the steering wheel.
I know the Vic is dead, hence Trump needs to pass an executive order to bring it back
No, there is no way in hell cfd should be driving rigs that are as old as some of the recruits
The only reasonable explanation is the city won’t pay the bill so the list has not been handed over
Go ahead what’s stopping you? All talk no balls. Fun to be anonymous.
Oh please, he was and is a blowhard, I’m a lawyer and da real west side police, blah blah blah. Making dope arrests in the 011th district back then was like shooting fish in a barrel. Getting a free law degree on the city’s dime at a diploma mill isn’t impressive all while drinking the koolaid and towing the company line and fucking coppers when he could.
Ha, exactly!
I guess nothing has improved since then? You guys are now running forty-year-old gear? That you get anything done, is by itself, an achievement.
these heroes need better trucks because they are heroes
you watch nmc? turn off all that fake news bs
Cal City
So you can’t hide or shop in Rosemont? Poor baby
Should of come up with the extra five hundred when you took the police job.
The truck was blocking the lanes for a previous accident until the rig itself was smacked into by a drunk driver. Another one out of commission
I always said, that if I ever lost my pension, I was going to swan dive in front of a CFD fire truck or CTA bus and get a lump sum pension payment instead. Looks like the city is going to make my job easier...
TruDat!
I don’t know who the sergeant is but I do know that in my 50+ years of weightlifting, there are always people – usually men – who love to make a lot of noise dropping their weights to let everyone know how studly they are.
