Dumbest Proposed Law Ever?

If this passes, mental illness will be an excuse to attack and beat police officers. In fact, who wants to bet there will be thousands of people who suddenly have doctor notes that permit them to attack cops? (click for larger version):

Notice that the carve-out / exemption for charges specifies attacking police officers only - not paramedics, medical personnel, mental health responders, etc.

You can also tell it's an anti-police piece of legislation by the sponsor of the bill (click for larger version):

Another anti-police scumbag.

Contact your legislators and let them know this bill better be voted down. Otherwise, we're going to encourage Officers to decline to respond to these types of calls and propose the FOP and PBPA take a similar stand.

Cool if that passes all the CIT trained should be retrained and/ or be given an out to opt out of being CIT responders. And of course, all CIT related calls from then forward are minimum four officer jobs.

If passed, the proper response should be:

"Per US Supreme Court decisions, Police are under no duty to respond to any call. Since we refuse to become a punching bag and get injured because of a mental case, we decline to respond to any such calls. Please call 311. Have a blessed day!"

We had a regular mental call in a district I worked in. He would start with the verbal abuse and then escalate to being physicaly restrained and cuffed after a tussle. Once in handcuffs (not always easily) he was as nice as could be. As if he knew he got what he deserved. All the verbal judo in the world wasn'tt going to talk him into handcuffs.

And another reason to do nothing. The reality is that democrats hate the police, with a passion. Democrat judge in Texas, of all places, sets bail for a cop killer, who now is out on bond but, yes but, he is on an ankle monitor! Anybody who has a half ounce of common sense knows that doesn’t work. Answer radio, respond slowly, mental case back off call sgt ask for crisis team. If possible do not engage. The democratic politicians will hang you out to dry in a heartbeat.

The public calls for the police not to respond to these calls but wants mental health crisis workers to respond to and handle them. The big issue is that the cities can't get anyone to take those jobs as the candidates see it as unattractive and dangerous.

I ve been a Detective for over 20 years, and the tide turned years ago either mental illness. Almost every case I have going they try to add a mental health component. This is nothing new. They still have to prove they were mentally ill. However, if you see, the proposed added a line in , if the Officer knew or suspected the person was mentally ill, which is almost every call, you ll get dinged.

If you think that Illinois would abandon socialism, what drugs are you taking? Look at the administrations, city, county and state, do you see any hint of conservativism? These nitwits mimic the Fuckheads from California. Invent ways to ruin the citizens and businesses and making police the fall guys and getting accolades from their comrades and the MSM (one in the same).

Just the fact that your legislators are thinking this shit should tell you, Illinois is helpless and either flee asap or you will be left to turn out the lights. This is real, not a movie or book where a superman, James Bond (superwoman or Jill Bond, if you like) comes to the rescue. Not going to happen.

It will be an across the board end of felony charges for battery to a P.O. The state will just blanket policy the refusals. Any offender charged under any circumstance will simply claim they had a mental health episode during the trial process. So it doesn’t just apply to disturbance with a mental assignments. They might charge it with more serious offenses, but it will be dismissed before trial and it will never be charged as a stand alone crime.

No it doesn’t, the castle doctrine will not be affected. The bill does away with the stand your ground, now requiring a person to retreat before they can use deadly force. The sponsor of the bill says it necessary to protect people of color from white supremacists. Like Chicago there are carloads of these white supremacists driving around shooting people all over California.

CIT training is no better. They bring in some hacks and some crybaby moms who make excuses for 5 days straight for their mentally deficient violent criminal sons and daughters who they force us to deal with on a nightly basis. Then they blame us for their violent criminal behavior saying we should escalate a person who is hallucinating hellfire. It’s ridiculous. I say send the mental health clinicians on every single Mental call. Don’t send any cops either them. Let the “professionals” deal with it.

This bill amends the Criminal Code of 2012 by adding a new legal defense for aggravated battery involving peace officers. Specifically, it provides a defense when a peace officer is battered during an incident involving an individual with a documented mental illness who was acting abruptly, and whom a reasonable officer could believe was experiencing a mental health episode. The defense recognizes that interactions with individuals experiencing mental health challenges can be unpredictable and potentially escalate, and offers legal protection for peace officers who might use force in response to such situations. By inserting this new subsection (d-1) into the existing law on aggravated battery, the bill aims to provide nuanced consideration of mental health contexts in law enforcement encounters, acknowledging the complexity of interactions with individuals experiencing mental health episodes and potentially offering some legal protection for officers who must make split-second decisions in challenging circumstances.
