The rain may have stopped, but a 200 foot break in the 17th St. Levee is flooding New Orleans. This isn't over by a long shot. 80% of the city is experiencing flooding, some of it 20 or more feet deep. The National Guard is on hand to deter looting, but sporadic reports are trickling in. Read any of the links on the right hand side of the page - all have many more story links than we could ever hope to gather.

Seems like it would be really, really hard to tell if someone is just trying to quiet a rumbing stomach. Or find clean water.
Hate to say it, but when the apocalypse comes to Chicago I ain't exactly worrying about who is breaking into who's car.
OTOH, shoot to kill for violence, arson or other heightened forms of CDTP. And probably a host of other public-safety/borderline terrorist possibilities.

Watching the live coverage of the hurricane I noticed this so clearly...
All the looting are blacks....
All the people who ignored the evacution orders and now are sitting on the roofs of their houses are black.....
All these service men from the Reserves and Coast Guards risking thier lives plucking these stupid people who refused to leave when ordered off these roofs is just amazing!
In a real world I would charge these people the cost to rescue them. It would be one thing if there was no warning of this hurricane but not only was there a warning but a luwful order given to evacuate.
Funny how the white first responders are so racial when confronted on the street by these same people... but they are now their savior when plucking them off their roofs....
Maybe they should stay on their roof and tell the first responders we don't want whitey helping us. We'll wait for some black rescuers!
For a population that makes up less than 13 percent of the US population, they surely screw up more things than 13 percent in this country!

Wait a minute.
If television footage of "looting" in the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina is accurate, I submit that most of the so-called looters are merely attempting to SURVIVE a natural catastrophe of epic proportions.
At this point, you can NOT compare the tragedy of New Orleans with rioting, looting, sniping, arson and the civil unrest Chicagoans experienced years ago. TV footage shows that most of the the "proceeds" of the "looting" are food, groceries, uncontaminated bottled water and beverages.
Power and communications are out indefinitely. If you didn't have the wherewithal to get out of town to safety, what would YOU do?
When mobs start carting off plasma TV units, appliances, clothes and other non-essentials, THAT is LOOTING. I have no doubt that actual looting has occurred. Martial law is necessary.
However, if I was NOPD and people were carting off essentials from a grocery market, I would take no action.
With breached levees and deeper flooding certain, let's keep our priorities intact.
This will only get much worse, not just in terms of loss of lives.
Right now, these folks need our prayers. May God help them!

First of all we were talking about looters stealing tv's, radios, vcr's and other non-essential items by the blacks...
Second.. to just open fire on a police station during a national emergency shows the true mentally of these sick animals.
So when you combine the facts of blacks looting for anything of value, staying there when they were told there was a mandatory evacuation order and then opening fire on a police station...
Shows they aren't just "victims" of the storm....
Oh by the way... with all the poisons in the waters....and diseases...the great thing is most of these jerks will be critically ill or dead soon, as the news is reporting.

New Orleans police related that a M/B looter was robbed of the property that he had worked so so so hard to loot.
The subjected demanded a police report.
New Orleans police complied. And wrote up an Arrest Report for him.
Looks like all that looting is not going to do em any good once the all the roads close up due to the water rising, those people won't be able to get out.
I have watched hours of news coverage and of the hundreds of looters have not seen one carrying food or water!
