That was a test?

Ok, we're looking for stories regarding the just released Detective exam results. We understand it was graded on a scale of 175 points. There are people who scored well over 80% correct (140 or so points) and they are relegated to the 700 and downward spots on the list. Maybe Mr. Shakman and Sgt. Northern (retired) can make some hay with the stories.

Here's the way we see it. The test is simple enough so that the LEAST intelligent merit pick can pass part 1. After that, it's all a game. The truly heavy people don't even show up for part 2; they know they're getting it. But the 20% "merit" (and 30% for Sgt. and Lt. spots) isn't enough for downtown. Someone has a "sooper-sekret" study group downtown for favored individuals who aren't going to make it legit AND aren't one of those blessed with a chinaman (or relative) heavy enough to make them. The "sooper-sekret" study group is directed to certain key words and phrases that will get them full points on the essay type questions. Suddenly, that 20% becomes 30% or more in the case of Sergeants and Lieutenants. Prove us wrong?

I Agree. I score 145 out of the 175 and another subject with the same score and about 9 months less time then me scores 450 spots ahead of me on the List . Does that make sense ? ?

How are the boys at FOP responding. I heard they voted themselves a $400 a month raise after the election in addition to their Capts. and Chief pay. Faces change - game remains the same.

"did not cheat" numbers dont make sense to me. I scored 140 and ranked in 790's my sister scored 146 and is in the 190's...I can not see how legit someone with less time and same score is even ahead by 1. If that is the case someone needs to look into it.

As far as I can figure is that scores between 140 and 145 are the high average so the determining factor is seniority and birth dates.
I think something we should bring up for the next contract is that the city must take 20% off promotional tests before the list is dumped. They get 20% we should too.

First, can you clearly identify the "components" (written multiple choice, "orals" and or "merit", essay, etc.) and the percent weight for all components? Was there a pass/fail written component? While I have considerable experience with CPD examination fraud ("ExamScam"), I hesitate to respond unless and until I hear the full story. As others respond with FACTS, I may make further comments at a later time.

Aside from the FOP and attorneys, unbiased experts in psychometrics should be consulted. Unlike other large U.S. cities, historically, the CPD promotional "process" is RIGGED and often a flagrant insult to the intelligence of the unsuccessful candidates, not to mention unaware taxpayers.

In a lieutenants' promotional "process" conceived by former Supt. LeRoy Martin, essentially, favored candidates needed only to appear before two exempts in an "oral interview" and utter the meaningless pass phrase or shibboleth "notify the watch commander" to succeed. Using "affirmative action" as a pretext, the City LATER arbitrarily weighted the "orals" at EIGHTY percent of the composite score. Based on the legitimate portions of the process, only a quarter of those promoted actually deserved it. Most deserving sergeants, regardless of race and/or gender, flunked EXAMSCAM. While it wasn't conceived under the Daley administration, I will never forgive or forget the subsequent COVER-UP of EXAMSCAM. Cold, mathematical precision disclosed that there was less than one chance in 13.8 TRILLION that Martin's
creation was legit.

I can NOT speak for Michael L. Shakman. He is aware of this blog site. His eMail address is "MLShak@aol.com." I'm sure he is not interested in anything short of documented evidence. Mr. Shakman has a full plate with no time for anecdotal allegations.

I'll be checking in on this thread periodically.

After 011, I spent most of my career in the Detective Division. I found "the D" both challenging and most satisfying.

I'm so sad for the young aspiring and most talented officers now that CLOUT may well have a stranglehold on my beloved Detective Division.

Your post's are always the same. Are you a robot?.. We all know about your career as a detective and a sgt, and your wonderful but dated Shakman and exam scam story's. Do you have any useful or up to date info that can actually help?

Old Dude Northern is at it again,

Who's going to pay for the "unbiased experts" to which
you refer? One of your lawyer pals? Are you an attorney yourself? I wouldn't be surprised.

I got an idea for ya. Take the money you won in your lawsuit and start your own blogspot. Call it blooming/idiot/snitchbag.com

Old Dude Northern,

What were you a CAPS sergeant? I can't see you as a detective solving many homicides. You probably drove the Violent Crimes Lt. around and then after a gruelling six-hour day, biycled home and called bosses to snitch on working officers.

As you can read above, anonymous CLOUTISTS have not only infiltrated this site, they have the effrontery to attempt to divert our focus with ad hominem attacks and other shameless drivel. Fortunately, the CLOUTIST agenda is transparent to all police officers. The worst nightmare of the CLOUTIST is that reforms will actually exorcise the CPD into a true meritocracy.

I strongly recommend that CLOUTISTS be perceived for what they truly are. Ignore these vile sycophants. CLOUTISTS are treacherous and will resort to the most egregious tactics to preserve the status quo.

Hey Old Dude,

You're the only mentioning clout around here. I think you're ashamed you're a snitchbag, always e-mailing people who are not needed on this site.

Answer my question windbag!! Were you ever a detective? Naw, I doubt it. Now I believe you were a sergeant in the Detective Division (initially blooming idiot, NO ONE calls it "the D"!) To become a sergeant in an Area you need CLOUT as you call it. Maybe you're guilt because a hard-working detective who made sergeant should have had your spot.

For a guy who writes he cannot speak for Shakman you sure do alot of dropping his name here.

Northern arguably has more CPD felony arrests than any other police officer, past or present. After his promotion, he served as a sector sergeant in 025. He is not an attorney.

Why don't all of you stay on message discuss the city's disgusting promotion procees. Kicking Northern has nothing to do with the issue. That's the problem with this job. All these MF's appoint themselves as the real police and then go around beefing about everyone else. Sick, bitter, twisted fucks who do nothing but complain. Take care of your own business and forget him. If you think you got bent over on the detective test, what are you going to do about it? I bet nothing, except sitting around sounding salty.

Guys, don't listen to some guy who says his score is whatever. How many times have you heard this, only to find that it is bullshit. I don't wish to pick a fight with other poster but the city decides the testing methods, locations, grading etc...not the union. The union is given no input.

Northside has huge credibility as a homicide dick and Sergeant.

Northern is right when he says that the standards for hiring and promotion practices under the Washington and Richard M Daley administrations got too many of their top picks from some septic tank.

Leroy Martin was the bum who said we should do law enforcement like the Red Chinese. What a dope...

Here's an idea. Since there will be no official list, start posting some scores and rank numbers and compile a list here. Then we'll have an accurate representation of how well everyone apparantly scored. I imagine that it will be similar to the last Lt's test where every single person who signed their name correctly passed on to compete in phase 2. By the way, that is unheard of, every eligible person passing, that is. Once a semi-legitimate list is available, the ANONYMOUS postings regarding test scores/ranks can be disregarded and there will be a starting point for discussions. All I propose is to leave in the following format your test score and rank:

#correct/rank

NO NAMES PLEASE

Q: Is a test where everyone passes truly a test?

Hey Old Dude Northern,
You never said how much money you got from the city in your suit. In the interests of full disclosure I think that should be revealled before folks start writing to you.

Secondly, you have not revealled if you were a detective before you made sergeant. If you were never a detective, but were placed in the Detective Division as a sergeant, YOU had some CLOUT. Don't deny it.

I don't expect you to answer the above questions though. You enjoy getting on this site to boost your ego. If there is not FULL disclosure on your financial gain from the lawsuit then please STOP writing above it.

Signed,

I have NO FAITH whatsoever in the FOP. So far I haven’t seen anything significant that FOP has done for us. Just ask any 4th or 6th District Cop about the new schedule, boy are they going to get screwed! We don’t even have PDT's that work. But keep on looking at the lovely pictures of the FOP reps drinking at conventions and meetings!!! It's all about the beer! I pay more than $30 a month to look at them drink and schedule golf outings and buy tables at Christmas parties!

I worked in 25 with Bella. Bella was despised by bosses. He was deeply involved in a the rabble rousing after Jimmy Comito and Matt Thiel were fired over Mearday. The city even fired the 3rd man on their car who was on IOD when it happened. I was in roll call the day after the incident when Bill Nolan walked in and started his "presentation" by saying "I know some of you here don't like me and I don't give a fuck." That was aimed right at Bella and his friends. Bella was dumped out of 14 when they opened 25. Why? He was a problem officer. I too saw his letter on our first day of dick school, and he was 96. You assholes get on here and make shit up about someone you don't even know. This is my first and last time posting here. I'm never reading this thing again. All you real police please continue to get on here and slander everybody and anybody. Please, just make shit up. This site will be done before it starts; nothing but 10 idiots telling lies back and forth. I don't know how we got any work done before you heroes were hired. Good luck with the bitterness, you can look forward to an unhappy life that ends 6 months after retirement when you don't have hate to keep you alive.

8/15/2005 06:27:00 PM
Anonymous Anonymous said...

Mearday was a punk ass, but there is a very simple way to characterize why they were fired:

They were fired for denying they hit Mearday. The bosses initially backed them up in their denials. And then they found physical evidence indicating that they had, in fact, hit Mearday. A few words of advice for those ever in their shoes: I was in fear for [my life, my safety, my partner's life, my partner's safety, the public].

Other points:

1.) Nolan sucks.
2.) Lots of people in 025 back then had been dumped there when it opened. Certainly not all, and there were in fact certainly some excellent people there. But 025 had a reputation for it. A shame for the workers there. The scandal history has borne it out too, particularly in comparison with other nearby districts 'cept maybe 015.

The old dude Sgt. Northern, still refuses to answer the question if he was a detective before he was made a sergeant in the Detective Division.

He also refuses to answer how much he won in his settlement. I suspect that informstion is public, so I'll just have to go to court and look it up.

Last chance to answer old timer!!
