New Chief of Patrol?
Thursday was Jimmy Maurer's last day. Love him or hate him or be ambivalent about him, he was a character the likes of which we shall probably never see again, one of the last of the "old guard." So who's the replacement? We predicted Dan Dugan, Area 3 Chief. Others say Risley or Shields, but previous comments hint at A LOT of baggage for Shields. Don't know much about Risley, though we hear some good things. Skahill's name is also in the wind here, but we can't see the political powers that be having two women in charge of the two largest Bureaus of the department (we're not sexist, just an observation.) We'll stick with our Dugan prediction for now.

Does Dugan have a vacation home?
Yes, and we've bought the lots on both sides of his and directly across the street. We've also taken out options on properties up and down the block and will be auctioning them off as timeshares. Bidding begins now!
Shields has way to much baggage regarding domestics, we don't need another embarassment like a certain deputy chief gave us from area 3.

Idea's for the fop:
(1) Court on your RDO is double time. (its bad enough we work 6 days and then have court on your day off when you want to spend it with your family)
(2) the city must take 20 percent from an promotional test before tossing the list. (they take 20% management why can't we make them take 20%)
(3) the city of Chicago must provide adequate free parking for po's at court house locations. (including Daley center)
(4) Special employment for districts (like normal special but you work in your district)
Last poster nailed it, the Chizzler is definitely a dark horse. That guys ability to step on or over people is amazing.
It all depends on how much Daley and his people get involved. If they tell the Sup. to pick a minority or female or let him have his own pick. They may back off with the Fed's all over the place and Mr. Shakman lurking about. But I doubt it.
I look for someone out of left field, Anne Egan, Frank Lamon or some other Hispanic or female.
Shields is incompetent. Meritorious Lt., and probably Sgt. Is has some relationship to Hillard like Godson of something which is how he went from Sgt. to Commander to Dep. Chief in about a year and a half. Besides connection to Jackson. Has beef on him for sexual harrassment, and oh yeah is friends with Flagg. Tina Skahill is smart, nice and was the police, but looks at everything like a laywer now, (Karen Rowan disease). Risley wants Organized Crime and is a good guy, dispite the obvious family ties and connections. Dugan would be a good choice so he probably won't get it.

Isn't Frankie Limon the one who ain't hispanic, he's old time Dago. His grandparents moved from Italy to Argentina, so he calls himself hispanic, but he doesn't speak a word of spanish.

Remember they had motor maintenance run the gas usage for every unmarked vehicle in the city. Any cars not gassed up in three weeks were taken from the units and given to Phils minions.

The dept. had everyone in cold case carrying nextels. Something happened and they decided to audit the bills. Now they pass on the "non-duty" minutes to the dicks. Some of those guys were gtting $200 bills at first. The city had been picking that up years. Take home cars, company phones, 2nd watch, mon-fri, all to clear cases with dead offenders. Gimme a break. My favorite my buddy told me 'we don't get overtime so we make it up in the duck'. Another unit where 20% of the people carry the load and everyone else is laughing at all of us. This job is nothin but a scam for anyone with clout.

Why do Sgt's get an extra half hour a day? I can't remember the last time I saw a Sgt stay that half hour. How much money could the city save? You have too much time on your hands. Quit worrying about everybody else and take care of the PO's that work for you.
Then I guess you wouldn't mind giving back the 1/2 hour you get at the end of your tour....... or are you the only patrolman that works till 30 min after the hour. I don't know about other Sgts., but I work late almost every day. Also, I frequently don't get a lunch. Don't begrudge us a benefit we obtained through our contract negotiation. If you are so concerned about saving the city's $, then I'm sure you support the voucher system instead of uniform checks. I don't know anyone who spends that much dough on their uniforms every year.
I know that you may not believe this but in some units, like SOS or Gangs you always have had to work an 8 Hr. plus shift. They check to see when you arrive and when you leave.
I don't know what "gang team" or SOS unit you worked for but as I remember gangs and SOS, most of the morning was spent driving a/c town to some remote spot (often not in the City) for breakfast or lunch and then a stop or two by some P.O's house to check on his wife, kids, girlfriend, etc., or to p/u his check from some off-duty gig. About hours 4 or 5 we'd hit some busy district, grab a quick pinch off the corner for dope, maybe a gun, or take over a job from some younger p.o., or dog who got a gun dumped in his lap and didn't want to handle it. About hours 6 or 7 it was time to held back to the unit for early checkoff. On Superbowl sunday or other special occasions, we always went to some P.O.'s house to watch the game and have a few (sodas, of course). Sgt.'s were rarely seen and Lt's never. . . It was truly the hardest job of my career, and I salute you for doing it now.

We know about the ones indicted but punk there are six more involved and it is also related to a number of robberies in the suburbs which they used police computers for gaining victim info..
They went thru two lockers at Area 1, and recovered proceeds from four pawn shops. I hope the g takes down every one of them screw turning the information over to the department. And I hear the gun sergeant is also a merit, so I hope he is guilty as sin, maybe he will be indicted and embarass his patronage friends. You are a patronage hack I wouldnt give the gun team the benefit of the doubt, I wouldnt even speak to those bastards who sell out the good honest guys on the department.

First of all, all of these rumors about A/2 Gun Team needs to stop. There were some isolated incidents involving a few officers. You don't know how Flagg got there and Shields is not to blame. Also, the sgts were on 24 hour call, not the po's. Don't talk about stuff you have no idea about. Go ask one of the guys still there what happened.There was a lot of good work done by some good policemen. It's a shame that their reuptations are being tarnished.
