I just got my Det. exam results in the mail. I'm about number 300. How far into the list does the dept. usually promote?

as a 19-yr. veteran (all 19 yrs. in patrol on the street)who has worked in 022, there a LOT of great p.o.'s out there. are there dogs?....absolutely! show me a district in this city without them. you just hope the good outnumber the bad, which they do in 022. for those who want to bitch & complain about the police in 022, i say leave your cushy job & come to 022. when harry "the hat" was the cmmdr in 022, people were bidding in with 2yrs. on the job! for those who want to complain, bid to 022 & help patrol YOUR NEIGHBORHOOD!
The department will promote you depending on who you know..do you know someone who will kick you up on the list?
300 is down there but not impossible to make Detective at.
The boys in 22 do a great job on the east end of the district. The young guys on afternoons and midnights do a lot of the hard work, the east end is just as busy as 004,006, and 005. I think the 022nd district gets slammed because it has good places to eat at, and it makes other coppers jealoius.
I know the afternoon cops on beat 2211 are good workers, one came from 004 and I think the other lad was in 007. The mid night crew on 2211 are a disgrace. if you get in trouble on the first watch you want 2213, 2222, 2234,
or your out of luck. Those kids work there asses off and get no respect. Im also sure there are other good guys we dont know about. I have experience in Area 1 and Area 2 and I can honseltly say there are good coppers in 22 just like in 007,008,009,021,004,005,006.
The problem is the tax payers do not get the service we deserve. 2211 took a personal the other night at 95th and Ashland. Why couldnt they take that personal at 103rd and Pulaski or 103 and Kedzie? That pissses me off because some poor off duty copper now will wait for an assist. At least Merrionette Park and Evergreen monitor zone 9. Why would the Sgt. allow them to leave their sector at 0300 hrs?
We shouldnt slam our brothers in 022, I just wish we could get some ghetto sergeants who understand beat integrity. If I was a boss I would give the workers in the district beat 2211 on there last night,
so that the tax payer would get service and the workin cops could have any easy shift instead of there 15 to 20 jobs in the 20 or 30 sector. Just imagine what the real police could on view. If the mid nite dicks can make felony arrests why cant the beat car 2211.
Beat 2211 has never made a felony arrest on mid nites in the last two years according to my sources who dispatch the dicks. We dont need the curfew police, we need on view robbery arrests, and dope arrests. These white junkies are breaking into the garages out here and homes, with out any police presence.
How come Sgt. Red would make felony arrests on 2211 before he went to days.
I respect the male coppers in the 22nd District that work the east end.

***Seriously. are you SMOKING CRACK? My guess is you are a southwest sider who has never been anywhere else in the CITY to eat. You can't possibly believe that 22 has the best places to eat. You need to get out more.

***Seriously, I am starting to think that you ARE smoking crack. You can take your personal anywhere in the district that you want to. Are you telling me that you think we should only eat, take personals, etc on our beat? What about the ghetto cops that don't have a place to eat on their beat? Maybe you have never worked in a district like that but I assure you. There wasn't ONE place to eat or go to the bathroom for that matter on my beat when I worked on the westside.

Why are the citizens of 2211 more deserving of police service than any other beat. IMO, with all the cops and firemen that live there, it's pretty well protected by them.

You have your facts wrong about 022 and 2211. They have made felony arrests within the last year..
Also, there are female officers who work all the "good" beats you mentioned on 1st watch.. What is your beef with all females? I can see having problems with certain individuals, but can't we get rid of the stereotyping? I don't think there is a group that is 100% bad, just like there is no group that is 100% good... the world just isn't like that.
I don't want to offend either, but, hey, why don't you bid into 022 if you think things are so badly done there.
I can't believe you are going to beef about where 2211 has their lunch... after all there is not even one restaurant open in that district on midnights... the big choices are 7-11/white hen/walgreens/pick up mc donalds.. that is it...
i'd like to know how many people bitching about 022 have a cush job. everyone has advice and talks shit about 022, but there is no one bidding in but dogs, and this is your neighborhood. the last 6 months there have been about 15 openings in 022 and i bet all you guys with the comments & criticisms did not attempt to bid. if you're working the streets in patrol, why not bid here & protect your own interests instead of the ghetto? shame on you....
Let's not play "the misogyny card" here. The best coppers come in all colors and BOTH genders. Same with the ones that roll in the opposite direction on a 10-1.
It never ceases to amaze me how a rather petite lady officer can defuse a volatile situation while some guy built like an NFL linebacker can constantly escalate a situation into a 10-1.
Unlike most of you active officers, I am admittedly out of the loop. Notwithstanding, I often hear nice comments from the male troops about some of the lady officers and supervisors who are assigned to my district of residence (018).

I would consider such a match for a police charity, however, I think in the middle of the match the sergeant, Garda and Anonymous boy would triple team me. Kind of like when Adrian Adonis turned on Dick the Bruiser in their match against the Valiant Brothers in a cage match at the old International Amphitheare.

Woemn coppers are worthless but so are bitch male coppers that work bitch districts(016,017, ok any north district except 015 and 025). Watch them run with the best of em. But I look down on workin coppers in fast districts leave 011 and 015 and go work in 016 where real police are needed before 016 turns out like 015. And for you clone dorks that live in edison park there are mules and crime up there.....
