Wasn't planning on posting, but ...

... the sun-times and tribune both had articles in the Saturday paper about JC Penney and Target stores turning over videos of coppers allegedly mistreating suspects and the FOP response. The FOP was forced to issue a "clarification" of their newsletter statement. We humbly submit our opinion and it follows closely with our previous post on cell phones (see post titled "Info for Street Cops" on 04 August):
  • Look around people. Cameras and recording devices are everywhere. In fact, it's posted all over the place that when you enter certain premises, you WILL be subject to recording. Just our opinion and all, but the security office of a retail store? IT'S WIRED!
  • Uncle Phil (or "P-dawg" as we call him) has stated that he is going to kick start the "cameras in squad cars" program again. This pilot program died on the vine when they first started it (in 014 if we remember correctly) and no one believed the city would spend the money to outfit all the cars. As it turned out, we were right. But times and situations change. Cameras are coming people, so is GPS (the park district already has it in all their trucks). We've seen the printouts they get on the Park guys and it sure is impressive: time on scene, time idle in one place, time NOT at where they said they were, all sorts of info.
Let's just review - Buildings? Wired. Squad cars? Soon to be wired. Public streets and alleys? Wired and getting more wired. Be smart! The days of handing out "candy" and such are numbered and we're betting that more and more cameras mean fewer and fewer coppers at some point. Don't get downsized through stupidity.

And for pete's sake, don't do anything silly like slow rolling to a "holding the offender" call. Respond as normal and if necessary, interrogate a suspect as to his treatment by the security guards. You KNOW the lockup isn't going to take him if he's beat to a pulp and guess who's going to be sitting on him at the hospital should he demand treatment? Write it all down. Document it. Our worst enemy is a LAZY copper. It's just paperwork. 95% of this job is bullshit paper, but 9 times out of 10, what screws you in civil court is bad paper, or worse, NO paper. We've been down that road once, and we've vowed once is enough. They can stick it to you for not doing enough paper, but we've never heard of anyone getting in trouble for doing too much paper. Hell, they even give you these little yellow slips of paper to fill out if the paperwork runs long.

Whenever a boss says on the t.v. that this will help the P/O as well as the citizen you know you're screwed.

Mr. Moderator,
no thread about the seven comrades in the mini-sub, rescued from the bottom of the sea? It probably was constructed in Detroit.

I remember my first CR#,I think it involved making the driver for Alderman Roti stop at a red light. I was a bit worried, not alot, but concerned.

Anyway....

This officer who probably came on the job beofore I was born said, "kid, if ya don't get a CR# every once and awhile then you're probably not doing any real police work.!"

I was happy to find another Chicago blogger. Cameras are everywhere and the cops who don't realize it, probably should be in some other line of work. I come from a cop family and have cop friends, so I am always on the side of the good coppers. http:andiamwho.blogspot.com

Cameras or no cameras the gloves are never coming off the police again! This is not a good thing either, our court system (cook county) is a joke, no criminal is scared of the police or the system. Oh yeah if your one of those visitors from outside the sworn police world, you can't have a handgun to protect your family from the bad guy either, thoe one perk we still have. I personally had a shoplifter at k-mart once where the security guard stbbed the lifter in the parking lot with a screw driver!!!!!!!!

It will be fun to watch Target and JC Penney on the ropes as shoplifters and credit card crooks learn that CPD officers don't give a rats's ass what happens in these stores anymore.

Watching the security guards working in these places posting bail bonds for various crimes. Every employee name checked, every time.

My thanks to certain anonymous person(s) for the tip.

I have just learned that one of the despicable LeRoy Martin's most vile lackeys is still on the job. I am referring to one Toby Burton. This worthless sycophant and pathetic excuse for a police officer has "earned a spot" as the COMMANDER of Evidence & Recovered Property Section (Unit 167). I was remiss in not including "the Hawaiian" in my post #39 under "Meritorious sergeant letter".

Why don't you tell your colleagues about our "meeting" at 025, you sordid suckhole. You are beneath contempt, "Inspector".

"Commander" Burton can be reached at 312.746.6777. Just ask for "the asshole".

My condolences to those who are assigned to ERPS. Keep your backs to the wall, guys.

The position of police officer has become a joke over the last 30 years. The only thing that seems really important anmore is defending ourselves and each other. I still want to protect children and the old folks but not much else.

Anytime I can cause grief for Target and Penney's and their security slobs I can be counted on to do so.

I'll never get into an accident responding to a "holding the shoplifter" call at these places, ever. I'll never risk my life fighting or chasing a shoplifter in these places, ever.

But anywho we need to stop shopping at that french owned shit hole. After the french snubbed us so many times you shhould be boycotting that french sissy hole anyway.
