Break Time!

We are going to take it easy this weekend, light posting if any. We're going to spend a little time away from the computer and leave the award post up top. Normal posting will resume Sunday evening. Thanks

Target and J C Penny turned over videotapes to OPS investigating shoplifting CR's and our officers have been placed in a position to defend their livelihoods.

I don’t suggest for a second that brutality should be condoned. However these to retail giants chose to show our officers how much they really need or want our service.

We all know that cops that don't make arrests almost never get complaints. This action reinforces that concept. Today, I would be really reluctant to make an arrest or do more than write a report connected to a shoplifting event or other crime where these two businesses are involved. Out of an abundance of caution, I’d be slow to respond to any calls and never chase anyone wanted for an offense against these retailers.

I think that the shoplifters and credit card thieves will figure out how these events have made Target and JC Penny easy targets where the risk of arrest and conviction has been greatly reduced. I suspect that pending cases where an officer’s testimony is needed for conviction may very well be trashed. The other side of the coin is that people involved in civil litigation against these corporations can count on unprecedented cooperation from most officer’s investigations of injuries, accidents and other events.

I predict that officers will vigorously investigate every battery and unlawful restraint complaint and alike made by suspected offenders about the employees and security guards that work for these stores.

JC Penny and Target should beef up their legal departments and insurance coverage

The purpose of being anonymous is you can truthful report the facts without fear of losing you job...

You can stand up and been counted and get suspended pending separation from the department.

I agree with Sweet Baby!! You can still be anonymous, but it shall let regular readers here get a feel for the regular contributors. I however, condemn his use of name-calling to present his point.

Last week the ray-man threatened to "out" me. Good luck. I noticed you did not reply to my guessing, correctly no doubt, that you are Southwest Side, Daley-voting, White Sox fan. Other than that I like him.

I can tell that at least two of the posters that followed up on my JC Penny/Target post are not cops. Why are you goofs here?

Tell you what people. Make up a name, tag, handle, whatever. That would cut down on the anonymous stuff and allow others to see your train of thought, answer your questions deirectly, and respond to arguments. Otherwise, it's like 40 people shouting in a tunnel. Myself and "leftisthebest" stick to our names and can understand when each is poking fun at the other.

As to there being non-cops here, the Moderator has said a number of times that its a public board open to the public. It's either open to everyone or just open to registered users and the Moderator has stated why he/she doesn't want a list of names that can be produced at some time. Therefore, he/she has also asked we behave ourselves. If the public got here, it probably because a cop told them about it.

Guess what? Sometimes you're gonna have to guess who and if you don't like the messages that's tough.

I beg your pardon. Did you call me a "goof"? And who might you be?

I believe that ideally, a law enforcement agency should be apolitical. Do you disagree? If so, why?

Who's John Northern?

Wasn't John Northern "the Green River Killer", the most prolific serial murderer in U.S. history?

He was electrocuted at the Florida State Penitentiary in Starke about twenty years ago...or was it Huntsville. I'm not sure.
