Just a question, but

didn't there used to be a psychological test to get on this job? And haven't we seen people accused of much less than this guy (yesterday's sun-times article) sitting down at Call Back answering phones, out of contact with the public? Just wondering. Don't bother posting his name. The slum-times didn't, and you don't want to be seen as less ethical than the slum-times, do you?

In earlier times, the Chicago PD and many other agencies tested the psychological fitness of candidates with the Minnesota Multiphasic Personality Inventory (MMPI), currently in its second edition. This instrument included nearly 600 items, all of which required a "True" or "False" response.

In addition, the City once used IQ tests With the advent of "affirmative action", circa 1973 (the reluctant "temporary solution" which has since become a minority BIRTHRIGHT with no end in sight), the City probably abandoned the latter in response to incessant complaints that intelligence tests were "culturally biased".

Following the 1990 (89?) test a number of people passed initial portion but flunked the psychological portion.

A class action suit was filed in 1992 (93?) by.......Ann Burke, that's right, at the time an alderman's wife in private practice.

The city settled the suit and just about 90 per cent of those flunked were tested again, by a different company, and passed. Guess what? A alot of those folks were (gasp!) bosses' kids.

Anyone who wants this job these days has to be as loose as a goose. We live in a video tape goldfish bowl. Politicians and wannabe politicians make news over our broken backs.

Nobody really gives a shit about public safety, just publicity for their personal agendas. This while the press spreads fear around like gasoline on a fire.

Too many of our bosses have been a bunch of obseive compulsive, power mad, control freaks dancing to the fife of some goofy politician.

I should be augmenting breasts in Beverly Hills as a physician but I played hookey in school too much so I could watch the Cubs lose.

Maybe I'll quit and write a tell-all book. "Cops Are Expendable".

RE: The MAD Bomber/Mr. "Urban Warfare"

Maybe our august host S.C.C. can whip up another PhotoChopped Department Medal especially for these wonderfully twisted but inspired Survivalists in Blue who are able manufacture 25 or more bogus Honorable Mentions for saving the public from their own pipe bombs and things similar...

I shall call it-
the "Timothy McVeigh Pipe-Saving Award"

;-) Hah!!!

Looking for a bright side- maybe the silver lining in this latest dark cloud is that when our blue brethren f**k up like royally like this pyrotechnic idiot- at least it lets the rest of us know that we're not too far gone, a-l-m-o-s-t normal compared to schmucks like him!

A salute to all my fellow officers who are currently NOT carrying contraband explosives in their personal or department vehicles- Stay Safe (and check your partner's ditty bags)!

L.O.F.A.N.

- Land of Fruits and Nuts (the OTHER kind!)

P.S. - Why isn't Mr. "Urban Warfare" taking the 120 Grand a year tax-free to experience the assualt-rifle heaven that is currenty everywhere in MESS-O-POTAMIA (Iraq)? (or maybe he is...?) B-O-O-M-M-M!!!!
