Questions for the crowd & an open thread

Someone answer in the comments please. We saw a Personnel Order come out this week and it had the assignments for the 12 promoted Captains on page 2. On page 1, however, there are two names that weren't part of the class, but were being assigned captains rank and assignments. We THOUGHT that we had seen one of those names on a retirement list a short time ago. Anyone have any info? Have they been hiring back retired bosses and making them Captains? What gives?

Is there anything you, the readers, would like to see more of? We try to keep abreast of the rumors and publish them as they come to light. We try to read the local police news and link the more important articles. We even try to track international information that could be useful if you ever ran across a similar situation. This blog isn't a static process. It evolves.

We are going to be out Wednesday and won't return until late. We are leaving this thread open for comments and suggestions. We'd like to again thank everyone who visits, reads and participates, even "Bush" and "Lefty," because without disagreement, there cannot be discussion. Our numbers keep climbing and it is thanks to your word of mouth that this is (so far) a decent place to sound off and be heard. We had our best day ever on Monday with over 370 visits and over 1,000 page views. 500 a day is looking VERY possible by year's end and if this was an FOP election year, we could imagine we'd be hitting 1,000 without a problem. Again, thanks, keep reading, and continue spreading the word.

They were incumbent Captains who transferred to new assignments prior to the assignments of the newly promoted Captains.

An issue I would like to bring up is our boss’s. That's right Captains and Lieutenants. Everyday in roll-call they always threaten us about something…. Do this or do that, no compensatory time, no excuse to miss court, etc. I’m sure you know what I mean. How about this, how many times do we hear our watch commander come up on the radio and say that he/she is touring the DOC and they need an event number. WELL we all know that the watch commander is sitting in the office stuffing his face with some free food left over from a caps meeting and thinking of other ways to screw officers personal lives. I don’t know how many times we have been talked to about false police reports but im sure calling for an event number from your office chair and saying that your touring the DOC is a false police report. Im sure Phill or Dana’s head would spin if they knew that was going on. Steve Colorius would have a heart attack….. Especially because it was his experts (2 -3 yr veterans) are the ones that pick the DOC every week.

The first page contained two names of sucessful bidders for new districts. They had to open up the districts to the previously made guys before assigning the new captains. I also heard the retirement rumor, but was told after the papers were submitted they were pulled back. I was told that any member can unretire in the first year after retirement papers submitted? I'm not sure will call pension board in am.

Listening to my scanner last night around midnite and would like to send out some kudos to police in 004, 006, canine guy, dispatchers on zones 8 and 9, and yes, even two units in 022.

From what I could gather.....five mutts in a pick-up rammed a squad at 87th and Dorchester and sped off westbond at speeds up to 80 mph. with units from 006 and 004 in pursuit. They were lost briefly but officer found vehicle, empty at 87th and Wood st. That's about four miles away.

After a few footchases, called out by dispaytchers, and the help of the midnight canine officer it sounded like four were arrested in separate locations near 87th and Damen.

I think it was taken in a vehicular hijacking. Maybe Garda or another detective can fill us in. Oh yea, officers from 022 took the west end of Dan Ryan Woods.

Here's a point though...the mutts were not arrested for awhile. It would been perfect for a helicopter. A sergeant from 004 called for the Fire Department helicopter because he thought it had infrared. When CFD said it only had a spotlight it was called off.

Just a positive note here about some good policework. Hope no one was injured.

He for you people that have scanners keep it to 016 if you want to fall asleep. Even though crime is running wild in 016 scared police in district doing nothing. Give it a try for yourself.....

WHERE'S THE ACCOUNTABLITY??

The hardworking guys in A/2 gun unit just got dumped.

Why?

Because the FBI wants to interview them.

About what?

Flagg.

Who dumped them?

The same guy that put Flagg into the gun unit. He made it clear that Flagg was "his guy" and to "take care of him". Why isn't he getting dumped? He puts a guy that's under investigation by the FBI into a sensitive unit and gives him all the freedom he needs to to do his ripoffs.

Flagg embarasses the CPD and puts a cloud over all the good work the gun unit did but nothing happens to the boss that put him in there in the first place. He just dumps all the workers.

I said the same thingwhen Flagg was indicted. How come the boss who brought him their was not dumped or brought in for questioning.

Kind of like the boss who "meritoriously" promoted a guy to sergeant shortly after the guy did 30 days for stealing money in court. He daily signed in on cases he had nothing to do with and then checked the money box. This was beofre the record #.

A/2 gun unit dumped??

Is this true, i worked with a couple of the guys on that team, and they were go getters.

If they got dumped because of the Flagg bs, that is horrible!!

Just another boss that does not want to take the blame for his stupidity!!

the a/2 rumor is true. the sgt of this team had to eat flagg against his wishes cuz flagg was tight with shields. when flagg was caught, shields' response to the sgt was "sorry". that'll carry a lot of weight! now the sgt & 3 po's are dumped. not the whole team??!! i guess if you don't talk to the feds & refer them to your attorney, this ball-less department won't go to bat for you! shield is another reason area 2 blllloooows!! another reason to protect your own interests & don't go "above & beyond"....the department doesn't give a shit about you!!!

I didn't say it was a rumor. Spoke to one of the 4 personally. Because of Flagg and Shields putting him in there, these guys might be hung out to dry. The feds talked to someone else on the team and guess what-he's now stripped. Shields is the one that should be looked at. Now these guys have to get attorneys and see the feds-nothing good can come of that.

I was thinking the exact same thing..... Shields should be in violation of department rules by associating with an active felon and fired. They had to be buddy buddy if he was putting flag in all these clout heavy positions.
