Off duty incident in 006

We've been contacted by e-mail and in the comments section regarding an incident in the 006th District involving an off duty PO from Englewood who confronted some garage burglars, got beat up, dropped her gun and to top it off, seems to have gotten royally screwed by the 006th District sergeant and POs who showed up and didn't want to make arrests it might involve overtime and one offender is the mother of some sergeant's baby. Who has definitive information on this?

Thats why we need what every other city in the u.s has, except cicero township. we need 30 miles out residency. I know many are split on this subject, guys and girls put additions on their homes or don't want to lose money. If this is done we will lose money at first, but man is private schools expensive, man it would be nice to actually have property and a new home for half of what we are paying now. best part is you no longer have to live next to the thugs you try to police, I say try cause the city doesnt want you to.
The fire dept. uses it in every contract just as leverage, we never bring it up, too many guys bitch about money they will lose. how about the future police officers? Think about them too.

school teachers had a nice plan of residency, they had a ten year, after ten years you can move out. many stay after 10 years. I would rent and get the f---- out!

The incident in 006 as described is totally false, take it from someone who was working in the district that night. PO was huge aggressor in the incident with her neighbor, with independent witnesses to confirm. Neighbor refused prosecution, but insisted on CR number. Oh, and when she wasn't pulling the crying act, she was turning around and cursing out everyone within earshot.

jtskier50, I don't know you, but in previous posts, you refer to working in Englewood. Obviously, you work with the off-duty PO in 007, and she has told you her current version of what happened. Believe me, she is saying stuff now to minimize any possible damage with the CR number. You sound intelligent from your previous posts, but you might want to look at what she says with a jaded eye. As I said before, take it from someone who was in the district that night

Its a damn shame that a PO can get 7 staples in her head and no one gets locked up, regardless of what happened. POs fault or not-
1. she was burglarized
2. she is the police so she can carry her gun wherever she chooses.
3. she has every right to expect someone get locked up.
4. Someone on the scene got a bug up their ......, because she was profane. So what, she was first and foremost a CHICAGO POLICE OFFICER. The thugs on the block as well as around the rest of the city will think as they do now its open season on POLICE.
Jaded eye, my eye. She is 1 of our own. Simply put no thug on 1 of my jobs will bloody up a PO and not go to jail.

A few corrections to the previous poster:
1. She got NO staples to her head. She refused medical attention.

2. She can carry her gun wherever she chooses; however, the intent in this situation is at the heart of the matter. She just got done with an argument and goes outside, allegedly for a walk to the store, with her gun on her side, in plainclothes, clearly visible. If you carry a gun off duty, which most of us do, you absolutely better not have it clearly visible to the public. You are broadcasting to people your intent to show off or cause trouble.

3. She does not have the right to expect someone to get locked up if she is the at fault party. She wanted to use the police officers to get even with some neighbors that she had an ongoing dispute with.

4. Yes, she got burglarized, but that was 2 weeks ago. That incident had nothing to do with the incident that took place on the night in question, other than her belief that these neighbors had something to do with it. A check with independent witnesses showed proof positive that she was clearly the aggressor, and should have been locked up, but the complainant refused prosecution.

5. Profanity to a supervisor is grounds for termination for gross insubordination. The supervisor did not charge her with that, although he absolutely should have done so. Based upon interviews with all concerned as the CR number progresses, that charge could be put in by the assigned investigator (probably an IAD case since it involves officers from 2 different districts and the type(s) of allegations).

6. It wasn't a thug that she got in the fight with, it was a 55 year old lady who uses a cane to walk. This officer, all 5'0 tall of her, needs to call for police and wait for them before confronting anyone. If she felt that the lady she eventually got in a confrontation with was an offender, she had no need to confront her so quickly and without help. The lady lived a few doors down from her. She would go back there eventually, even if she fled in a car or wheelchair. She knew that too, but in her rage, she lost focus and went after a neighbor in a manner completely unnecessary .
Police are our own worst enemy when they are trying to get even and/or lose their temper. Her campaign against the 006th District officers is completely off base.

The truth said sounds to me like a supervisor or a detective. I don't care if old girl was 80 yrs old. She goes to jail if she causes injury to one of my fellow officers. One may say I would be open to a lawsuit, I say bring it on, do what you gotta do. The PO was injured and she had every right to sign a complaint against whomever. All parties involved should have been taken into the 006th and let the process play out, if felony is denied than at least the PO could have signed a misdemeanor. Who made that supervisor on the scene a judge and jury anyway. Every day civilians sign complaints for incidents against each other yet one of our own was not afforded that opportunity. We tell civilians every day that a judge will be the trier of facts, not us. Its a damn shame and an outright disgrace.

The officers campaign is not against all 6th dist POs, its against the POS/Sgt (on scene) that did not give her the process we give to all civilians. The SUPERVISOR on scene should have followed procedure and taken it all into the 6th. This supervisor has lost a lot of respect because of this incident and he can't even or won't see it. He made a judgement on scene that wasn't his to make. The PO deserved her case be thoroughly examined and let the chips fall where they may.

The sgt is a former Detective. The PO went to the hospital after the incident. The P.O received treatment for the lacerations to the back of her head and then went back to 006 to see the DC. Anyone know if she got in and if so did it do any good.

OH, You mean the Sgt. who was also the D/C's partner when they were patrolmen? The Sgt. who has spent more time riding in the D/C's car than his own? The Sgt. who is summoned to kick it with Dana and the other big bosses when they come into 006 to visit that Puss Hound D/C
? We'll see how far this gets before the Gold Stars make it go away. Only people with no clout are left to twist in the wind. This was a dead issue before it even started.

yep, thats him. In the DCs defense friend or not if you bring him heat he will drop you like a hot potato. So we will see if this sgt just like all the others that were tight with the DC gets tossed by the wayside. Not an admirable quality in a DC but if he is consistent the bloody PO does stand a chance.

the p.o. had blood on her shirt from being thrown to the ground. the sgt. was asked by another sgt. about the injuries and he said he didn't see any blood, even though her shirt was clearly stained. also those offenders were seen by the p.o. in front of the alleged woman on a cane's house before they were seen in the p.o.'s backyard. the woman on the cane was standing in the gangway of the p.o.'s house while those offenders were in the p.o.'s backyard. the alleged witnesses lives next to one another and are involed in drug activity according to the senior citizens that live on that block. but the bottom line is that you give a p.o. the benefit of the doubt, especially if their injured.

the funniest thing about the whole incident is that the tac sgt. and his team did not respond to help a off duty po, but to a man with a gun call, they don't respond to help po's in 006, let alone off-duty po's. probably another meritorious sgt., soon to be meritorious lt. remember, its all about the numbers, again. lucky for her they didn't lock her up for uuw, as they have done with legit security guards, who have their weapon in their trunk.

about that 006 District incident. Just recently I was talking to someone telling them how I was about to live the district. I have been there for 2 1/2 years and it is so clickish there. I somebody don't like you they may not come to your aid if you call for assistance. That is not good. I bet that is the same way the officer feel. They didn't know her. So, I'm willing to bet that's why that did not assist her. My sister work in another district, and she said it would have never happened in another district. If it was me I would sue the city.

They treated that Off-Duty P.O bogus..I believe that it was at the end of the day and they did not want to make the arrest. I see it done all the time.. lazy officers .....

I am aware that the female police officer at the center of this controversy is spreading her latest version of events as to what happened that night. I stand by all of my previous posts. Nobody blew off anything, the officers and Sergeant involved did not leave work until 0600 hours that morning, finishing up paperwork from the incident. There was no concern about overtime, as the watch commander approved it all. The only problem was the female officer fronting off the on-duty police so she could get at her neighbors for what she thought was complicity on their part in the garage burglary at her house two weeks earlier. I understand her fellow officers in 007 being frustrated because their natural inclination is to believe what someone says to them if they work on a daily basis with that person. She simply is not being truthful to them.

The Sgt that is in question should be DUMPED. Commander's boy or not. If not dumped he should step down. I could be wrong but it sounds to me like he dropped the ball. It sounds like a cover up, and He can't be trusted. Before another PO gets injured.

They spent a lot of time blowing off an arrest. and look like they had to stay anyway. That was stupid. I can't even hardly get overtime for a good pinch. They dicked around the officer and she get a CR# and they get OT. GGGGGG ...This story gets better....If they were going to do ot anyway they should have made the arrest

I dont work in 007 and I'm pissed. I dont know the officer personally, but I've saw her several times. She is very soft spoken. You are not going to be abled to convince nobody that she curse out a supervisor. not no one who knows her. NEVERRRR. I am willing to bet my life savings. Not had it been someone else maybe but not her. sorry, you should have come up with something else. NOT IF I WAS HER AND SOMEONE BROKE IN MY PROPER, AND ATTECKED ME, AND NOBODY WENT TO JAIL I WOULD HAVE CURSED OUT THE LAZY SGT. AND POs. I just being honest.

Previously someone asked about the condition of the PO. .... Well yesterday I spoke with her, she was excited about her final grades, so I didn't want to bring the situation up. However, she said that the officers from her district put a special attention on her house. They come and check on her periodically, She said even some uniformed officer from the 006 District have come by her house to apologize, and to check on her.

Now.... why do her district have to cross over and put a special attentioin on her house? Now if he was a good Sergeant he could have atleast put a special attention on the P.Os house. Now, I at least thought that they would do that much. come on now.

They need to face the fact that they f----- over a PO. for some S---heads. I know one thing that sgt. have lost the respect of POs. As much stuff occur all of a sudden, you get a sgt who claim to access a situation, and determines a PO is at fault.......SURE, I believe the Sgt. acted off of premature info. I have had it done to me. All criminals like to target POs houses.

when that sgt. got made, his own unit didn't even have a promotion party for him, he got lumped in to the party with the 2 from 6 that made it. and it was a good party at bourbon street. he also got a tac team right away. he is one of the commanders boys, spends more time in the d/c's office than any where else. he won't get caps cuz that spot is already filled with a meritorious sgt.

Because I work in 006 I've been reading through these post with great interest. I have no knowledge other then what I've read here so my only comment is this; friends and colleagues, stop the references to the ghetto and the other jabs back and forth that only devide us. Let the process work this issue out and let the rest of us work at putting the meaning back in the word family when we refer to the "Police Family" and lets not use incidents like this to show our ignorance.

sgt obri i agree . This is so serious, things like this cause a lot of tension on the department.SGT. OBRIEN you were my sgt in the academy and you were very compassionate to everyone in the academy . I am surprised that you havent been made a lt.We truly need to look at ourselves and realize that if we are all that to talk each other neighborhood, being so bad then police the damn neighborhood and you wont have to bash the co-workers. Like the 22ns district that code of jobs and never even show the hell up .I live in a nice district ,but the police service sucks. What do you do ?This is what we need to focus on taking care of each other neighborhood,so we dont have to be the freakin police off duty in our f@#$4 neighborhood. Those that live in 22 cant say shit, about the neigborhood being great like 3535 w 111th street. Sorry ass cops. Makes me look bad as the police.I work in 007th and moore is a nice young afro american police officer. She got more balls then the f@##^ alot of whinnig ass patrolmnen and women do.Look at the real picture (look in the mirror)If we dont look outfor our own family in blue, then who will)DAMN IF ITS DALEY,CLINE AND MANY OTHER HEAVY HITTERS.WAKE UP.

SIGINING OFF AS A ANGRY WITH NO TRUST IN THE DEPARTMENT RULES AND UNITY.!!!! I HAVE WORKED MIDNITES WITH THIS YOUNG LADY AND SHE IS VERY OFT SPOKEN AND SWEET,SHE IS A GOODWORKER!
