Camera Program

If you go to the Department's main web page (accessible to everyone here) there is an ALERT button that you can click on and read all about the new Pilot Camera Program (we aren't sure how long these alerts stay up, so check soon). They're outfitting 12 squad cars with cameras and looking to get federal grants to equip more.

We just wanted to opine that $5,000 per car seems a bit steep, especially in light of the shrinking size and price tags of decent systems at Radio Shack and Best Buy. Was this a no-bid contract, signed with all due political haste and in the absence of legit oversight? Who is the vendor? We're betting that even in the midst of huge federal investigation, there are still some things that never change, and that would include a connected company getting more money thrown their way.

They tried to get 10 cameras for Traffic Enforcement Cars over two years ago, and there still waiting for them. By the time they write up a bid specification, (so only 1 bidder qualifies, da mayors guy) and publish it and wait for bidders, 36 months will pass and da people will forget about it.
Even a legit bidder will drop out, cause he can't wait 4 years for the city to pay him for his equipment. Hey, what about Circut city or Best buy. Nah, too cheap!

Stop worrying. My beat car has well over 100k miles on it, the break light is always on, the car bounces up and down after I hit a dip or pothole, and the front tires wareout before the rear because the alignment is so bad. Do you really think this dept can keep 5000 cameras operational?

Who cares. They don't have ten guys on each shift to even man those cars, or even five for that matter. The only car that they always man is the Skyway car, like that's gonna help any.

That unit is paid for by the skyway authority per shift.

Can't Hubie and his jiffy lube crew wire the squads lickedy split on the cheap? Cheap web cams plugged into those supposed new p.d.t. laptops coming soon? Wirelessly fed back to big brudder at OEMC?

Hey, that's an idea, take the squads to jiffy lube for oil changes (10-15mins) instead of waiting for 1 -2 hours at motor maintenance. It would probably save the city thousands each week. TIRES ALSO, have the vendors charge a flat rate per car. Nah, to many political hacks would lose their jobs at motor maintenance or their cushy gas pump job.

the city doesnt want black citizens on video screaming whitey asshole cops and acting a fool to then be played by some TV station ... Daley rather hide the cock roaches from the tourist trade

Thats why he never would let "COPS" be filmed here even though they offered big money.

Cant let the public see the real ghetto.

If it happened in 23 it was either two male cops or two dike cops.

Or even worse yet. A black rev who is also a state rep acting a fool on a traffic stop. If that was on video it would be worth a million bucks to see that asshole as he really was.

I think the D.C. orgy-obsessed guy and the Sgt. Snuffy-Smythe-Barney-Fife fatal erection AND the "Nelson" Muntz guy are the same Three Faces of Evil skulking around of late... might be time to beta-test that verification system SCC... at least then the target of his spurned advances would have Sybil's I.P. address to confront him...! ;-)

While we are talking bout crs nd Motor Maintinance, anybody know why the fueling stations that are run by the City can't pump gas when there is a gas truck unloading gas? Why do they shut down for an hour till the driver dumps his load? Thats not the way things are done in the real world.

I welcome the video cameras. However I bet a million dollars that the program will be scrubbed once the real video clips come in of the ghetto rats acting as usual. Vote richie out, theres a real step forward towards cleaning up the city. Id pay the 5 grand myself for a system to be put in my squad just to prove how valuable a tool it will be. But I know that those cameras are only racist tools and the ghetto will beef and they will be removed cuz the usualls wont be able to act as usuall.

re: gassing up

I have never filled up at a gas station that was receiving a shipment. It may be an old wives tale, but I was always told that the new gas stirs up any sediment/deposits that sit in the bottom of the tank. Letting it settle is much better for your car than having that crap get pumped into your tank. Again, might be fiction, but that is what I was told.

I called the pump guy on that once. I needed gas, I was busy and didnt want to drive to the next pump. I told him to pump it and he did. He made a big show about not blaming him when the car broke down. I guess he never heard of the filters in the pumps or in the car's fuel system. Moral of the story is if you need the gas have him pump it. If he wont pump then it do it yourself. Dont bother beefing, he didnt get the job answering an ad in the Suntimes.

OR LOOK AT IT THIS WAY - WHY RISK YOUR ASS BEING ANYWHERE NEAR A GIANT CAN ON WHEELS FILLED WITH HIGHLY EXPLOSIVE CONTENTS? MAYBE EVEN A BUTTON SENT STREAKING OFF MY INCREDIBLY OVERMATCHED TIGHT UNIFORM SHIRT COULD CAUSE A CONFLAGRATION SENDING ALL NEARBY TO THEIR PREMATURE GREAT REWARD! JUST KILL A FEW MORE MINUTES GOING TO THE NEXT CLOSEST PUMP- THE LIFE YOU SAVE JUST MIGHT BE YOUR OWN! ;-)

I've never seen a gas station close down during a delivery, and tell the waiting customers to come back in a hour.

That 1 hr. thing was an old wives tale to let the attendants rest an extra hour.

Look at all your major gas stations, they all sell during delivery.

Drive down to Indianapolis Blvd. across the Indiana Border, there are at least 6 Major stations there that never stop pumping while they receive a delivery.

And while you are there, fill up and save the Daley tax and the Stroger tax.

Hey Hey! Tell the dispatcher your out of gas at the pump, cannot move, and take an extra hour for a sandwich, drink, and a nap.

Don't ruin this perk. Go out of service for any reason that's offered to you.

If the 1 hour thing is true, then you should also wait another hour after you fill up so the gas in your tank also settles. And after driving to each call, the gas will be all stirred up, so wait another hour till it settles. The shifts will be shorter and shorter. Lunch and personals could burn up most of the day. Oh well!
