Did we hear this correctly?
Is anyone watching the Channel 9 News? We just saw the story (see the sun-times and tribune stories - registration required at the trib) on the mayor assigning new powers to the Inspector General and signing Ms. Brennan's request for whistleblower protection. We THINK we just heard that as part of the whistleblowers protection, city workers can face discipline of they DON'T report corruption. We are attempting to locate this portion of the story online right now.
But in the meantime, far be it from us to disobey a direct order from the chief executive of the city. The mayor has kindly agreed that whistleblowers DON'T need to leave their names, which also happens to be standard policy on this site. So please, use this open thread and anonymously report all the corruption you can think of involving city officials, including violations of the Shakman decree. Someone will forward the whole thread to the Inspector General at a later date.

How about the Mayor's bodyguard detail getting paid Seargeant's pay. 10 grand more a year to be a bodyguard at a job that only political hacks can get. They do a lot less than most cops, get a boatload of overtime, and they get paid the big bucks to watch over Daley...while the regular guys can't get 30 hours of legit overtime a period...time for a change

How about the policy that people who work in the District CAPS office can't get O/T but are subject to constantly having their hours adjusted and often work 10-12 hour days and have to come in on their days off and furloughs because events are scheduled that they are expected to participate in. Then they have to take "duck" days (days that they are scheduled to work) to compensate themselves for not being able to get their regular days off. You can bet if something happened, suddenly the bosses wouldn't know what their status was. It doesn't matter whether you think that CAPS people are the "real police" or not. Its not fair that tact and watch people can get overtime but not CAPS people when the contract requires it. When Tact people have to change their hours or have their days off cancelled, they get O/T for it. Why not CAPS people?? Investigators should look into how many district c/o's are keeping a second set of books for CAPS people and just how much manipulation of the A& A sheets is going on.

You're lucky you're not charged with theft. In fact, I'm gonna blow my whistle on all CAPS employees. What District do you work? Cause most of the CAPS cops I've come across are part-time workers.
It might be the same neighborhood relations people that call the FOP every day with the same BS. They do nothing, they were never POLICE, and they think they deserve "ducks"? give me a break...schedule your meetings, answer phones, take 2 hour lunches, do your stats and wish you could be the real police, but never, ever complain....you are asking for ridicule. you want to be CAPS...be it..if you want perks...THEN WORK THE STREET AND EARN THEM.

I was an Unit Rep in the 1980 s and officers always came to me and wanted me or the union to rectify problems with the contact. You were able to correct some violations but other times you need the officer to stand up and file a greviance. Which most times they refused they didnt want or need the reprocussions from the commander etc. They want It all but are unwilling to stand up and be counted.. Sounds like the hpuse cats the commander says jump and the say how high. Then they bitch no ball creatans

Caps is a waste of time and manpower. Also, look at all the asskissers at 35th and Michigan. There's enough there to fill a district of p/o's, Sgt's, Lt's, and Exempt. They could trim 75% of those people and still have too many there.
Almost every one there had to make a phone call, especially Special Events.
And lets not forget about the civilians. Hundreds of them who do basically nothing for eight hours a day. Nice patronage job.
How about the District Managers? Now theres a waste of money. Big salary for someone to order supplies and direct the D/C on how to run the Dist.
When you add it all up, Millions are wasted on these useless people. Money that could be spent on more police.

If they're leaving early, how do they know you take an hour on the end and who takes your slip?
CAPS??? CAPS This... CAPS- Never was legit, never will be, misappropriated Federal Funds and tax dollars unacounted for. And if you can't handle being the CAPS officer, why don't you try putting in for some other meaningful work, like volunteering to clean the Mounted Unit Trailers??? Empty holsters, they never cease to amaze me with their rough assignments..
