So What do you Want to See?
We spent about 90 minutes surfing the web today, and there isn't much out there this weekend that piques our interest. How about you guys? Anything come to mind? Bears lost, Cubs and Sox won (magic number is 5 or so), Blackhawks are playing right now. We're just waiting for the soap opera that is the police department to open for business again come Monday.

I haven't seen a follow-up to the comment about the NYPD significantly lowering its starting salary while giving raises to bascially most others.
I know this is a Chicago police blog, but I'd love to see if anyone here has any thoughts about (or even knows of) former Boston Police commissioner Evans. Not so well liked by the troops, but responsible for a massive drop in crime and homicides that preceded (and was then overshadowed by) New York's. Great Britian took the unprecedented step last year or so of making him the commissioner of the part of the Home Office which is responsible for seeking out and finding the best policing solutions in the world. Gotta wonder if any boss in Chicago would even recognize this guy in a crowd on the street, what with him actually knowing how to get things done and all. Things in Boston ain't looking so good now that he's gone and they brought in a kinder-and-gentler O'Toole, who is clearly way out of her league in Evans' wake.
Bratton in LA? I'm a huge fan, but it was certainly telling that part of his solution for the city of LA was to actually hire thousands more police to bring the department's numbers more in-line with other major PDs in the U.S. Politics nixed that one.
Ramsey in DC? The Washington Post did an article last year saying that homicides were basically unchanged since he started, though they had dropped significantly in most other major cities in the same time period. Chicago's finest indeed.
And Gainer, formerly of the ISPD, and formerly of the CPD, now in charge of the Capitol Hills PD. 2000 officers give-or-take to protect a bunch of politicians. I've been to concerts on the Capitol lawn, and its notable how young and ex-military-like the officers mostly look. 6'0 rule????
An AP evacuation story was on the front page of Yahoo news today. Hey, you heard the screeching here first, huh? Milwaukee says its actually misplaced its Cold War evacuation plan, and will promptly start creating another. LA admitted that they have no such thing (yet). The Feds are on the verge of ordering plans for every major metro area. Seems like a prime area to increase funding for mass-transit surface train systems.
But you know your audience. All politics is local and all that. Anyone figure out the actual manpower numbers for Chicago yet?
I understand that a class is starting soon.
Oh, and can we start a pool on dates for Blago and Daley's indictments, respectively?
Or how about tips and clues about favoritism/corruption that has reaped millions for friends and relatives of the connected? If that safe here? If so, Joyce's relatives... and Navy Pier concessions. That's my secret for the day.

i heard 140 for sgt's with no dic training in the area. cline's kid has the two years as of dec so th lt test should be announced in jan 2006
