Hey, look! They agree with us!

Despite the liberal bent of the sun-times, their op-ed page actually makes sense 2 days out of 7, which almost makes them moderate. Today is one of those days, and they actually agree with US! The "Commentary" headline takes the city to task for actually thinking that they'll be able to ticket pedestrians and they bring up a lot of points that we did back in this thread.

Do you think they're reading this blog? No, we don't either, but it just goes to show you that sometimes the media can actually think logically. Wierd.

FWIW, Jon Hilkevitch, the knowledgeable and informative transportation writer for the Tribune, also agreed with you in his Monday column, though he didn't specify his objections. See http://www.chicagotribune.com/services/newspaper/premium/printedition/Monday/metro/chi-0509260103sep26,1,3723478.column

Also, Mark Brown in the Suntimes wrote an interesting commentary objecting to the proposal too. See http://www.suntimes.com/output/brown/cst-nws-brown25.html

If I didn't know better, I'd think this was some sort of set-up to make Velazques (sp?) look stupid. This is one of the dumbest proposals from a Daley department-head since... well, this week.

This just in. After Father Tom learned that the IRS is investigating the FOP, he upped his contribution to the Police Chaplains Ministry Fund. From .35 cents per dollar raised to .36 cents per dollar raised.

http://www.catholicnewworld.com/archive/cnw2002/041402/digest.html

He said, "That should shut the Feds up for a while!"

He was asked how a Catholic priest could be making over $110,000 a year. Fr Tom responded, "I know it looks bad that I make twice as much as the police officers I represent. But I'm a crook. I have urges and desires just like any other man. Please don't turn me in to Patrick Fitzgerald. And thank you Northern for sticking up for me."

-Police chaplain’s fund reviewed-

Archdiocesan officials are conducting a review of Father Thomas Nangle’s relationship to the non-profit Police Chaplains Ministry Fund.

Nangle has headed the fund for 15 years, and draws an $84,000 annual salary from it in addition to the $26,000 annual salary he receives from the archdiocese for serving as chaplain to the Chicago Police Department, according to an April 9 report in the Chicago Tribune.

The fund pays for outings and materials for the families of slain police officers. Since its inception, about 35 cents of every dollar it has raised has gone towards charitable activities, the Tribune report said.

Auxiliary Bishop Jerome E. Listecki and Chancellor Jimmy Lago will meet with Nangle to review Nangle’s association with the fund.

You got anything more recent that 2002 to post to back up your bad mouthing of Fr. Nangle? BTW, the review cleared him, or did you not want to post that part?

Why should he be paid $84,000 per year? I am through giving money to him and I've given alot through the years. I feel betrayed and deceived in all those letters he sent to me. ALL of those letters said the money went directly to the families of slain police officers.

Once again: you're looking three years ago and he was cleared. Find something in the last three years and then lets talk. Jeez

No, you answer the question. Why should he be paid that much? WhY?

Also, after everyone worked hard and also gave money for the building he gave it to the counseling company for nothing.

The alderpersons keep saying that the department wants NOTHING to do with traffic enforcement. They say that traffic enforcement by Chicago Police Officers is non-existent and that people speed down sidestreets and go through stop signs.

The big question is when was the last time anyone saw a Chicago Police vehicle (besides the traffic unit) properly equipped to enforce speed on the streets of the City of Chicago?

The city decided that they did not want Chicago Police Officers running radar on the city streets and speeding on the city streets is the end result of that lack of enforcement.

If they want speed enforcement, equip the vehicles with speed detection equipment like radar or laser.

There will always be people in every district are more than happy to enforce speed, but they need speed detection equipment. A laser unit is a whole lot cheaper than all of these cameras, but they don't bring in as much revenue.

Why are we always the one to blame? Why is it our fault? Equip the vehicles with speed detection equipment and you will get speed enforcement.

Anyone who is posting against Fr. Nagle or any priest, you must realize this.....You will NEVER change the minds of people who are brainwashed by religion. They are too superstitious to see the truth. That is why priests were allowed to have at the young lads for decades and the ghetto reverands have their parishoners crying for them after they are convicted of embezzeling $100,000s of church money. No, if you even think a bad thought about Fr.Tom you will go to hell!!!!!!

I just spoke with our beloved chaplain, Father Tom Nangle. I informed him of the anonymous ad hominem attacks posted on this Web site.

Fr. Nangle said that he will neither read nor respond to the anonymous criticism.

Furthermore, I can assure all that the person(s) who used the identity of "Father Tom" is an impostor.

Father Nagle gives me the creeps. Flat out, can't say why, but wherever I'm near him, the hair on my neck stands up and my gut churns. Whatever else he is he's as creepy as any skul out here. Go figure. . . .

I never had the "creeps" around Father Nagle, but I was abit uneasy at the twice monthly Police Masses at the Mercy Home. There is a limited number of folks who attend.

I attended a few times and was made to feel like an outsider. There is a small group who are regulars there and I sincerely got the impression they didn't want others there. Perhaps I am wrong, I hope so, but I never went back.

Oh, my goodness gracious!

"The creeps", huh? My, such a profound intellect!

You are so cogent and cerebral.

If you are incapable of articulating an intelligent thought, why don't you just shut the fuck up, you sniveling beotch?

Now, that is indeed a statement made by a superior mind. Nothing makes a more cogent closing argument than "shut the fuck up....beotch".

Re: "the creeps".

I agree. The boorish use of profanity by poster "northside" is unconscionable. He is a Philistine with no regard for civility.

You must agree, by your own admission, your anonymous post in a public forum indicates that a highly respected and honorable man INEXPLICABLY "gives (YOU) the creeps".

Together, we will analyze these nebulous feelings (i.e., "the creeps") and resolve your apparent phobic reaction.

First, we must identify other persons and/or situations in which you have experienced "the creeps". We are looking for a common denominator here. There is no shame in your apparent neurosis (I have summarily ruled out a psychotic episode). However, we can not discount paranoia at this time.

Relax. Now tell me about your previous experiences with "the creeps".

I'm here for you--gratis.

Mr Northern,
I would call you Sergeant but you are now a civilian. Please call yourself such.
I am so glad that you can use such big words like: ad hominem, cogent and cerebral. I would be so lost without you. Thank You for retiring from CPD and continuing to post on this blogsite. Your knowledge is sooo vast...I just can't believe that you can find the time to post here being so busy and all.

I'd bet that sometimes it takes you half a day to learn the definition of a big word.

I'm honored you contacted our beloved chaplain, father tom nangle. Did he explain to you how he makes twice the amount of money you do? Or how a whole one-third of money raised for the Police Chaplains Ministry Fund actually goes to the charity.

Oh wait, the story is 3 years old. Ok so $110,000 a year is too small. It's probably $145,000 a year now.

Get a life northern!! & Quit trying to come off as mr morality with a brain.

Thank you for sharing, "boss".

Aside from the IRS, my personal financial situation is no one's fuckin' business. Suffice to say, pension checks from the City of Chicago account for only a small portion of my LEGITIMATE net worth.

I have no agenda other than to bring actual reform to the CPD. In view of my personal experience with retaliation for exercising my First Amendment rights in exposing the outrage of ExamScam and other clout-infested personnel issues, you may accurately say I am passionately committed to some "unfinished business".

I hope to see the day when our most deserving officers who sometimes average over fifty Part I FELONY arrests per year can advance through the ranks WITHOUT becoming paper-shuffling, empty-holstered sycophants who STEAL the promotions of our most capable officers through clout--political patronage.

Without the help of Patrick Fitzgerald, Noelle Brennan and Michael Shakman, combined with litigation by whistleblowers, desperately needed reforms will not occur.

You and your ilk (and anyone else) can contact me anytime at "cpdfop7@yahoo.com". Then again, I don't expect that anonymous cowards and back-stabbers like yourself have the cojones to crawl out from beneath your rock.

The anonymous attacks on Fr. Nangle are far beyond the pale.

Retirement has been very, very good to "Citizen NorthSide". World travel, living well and answering only to God...life is good! I highly recommend it, particularly to those that must endure the generally incompetent, corrupt and dysfunctional "management" of the CPD. My heart particularly goes out to the younger officers who must wait decade(s) before receiving that first retirement check.

Aside from schadenfreude and dragging the fine reputations of decent folks through your slime, what's YOUR agenda, ANONYMOUS "boss(es)"?

P.S.: After "the creeps" shows up for therapy, Dr. Freud (8:28 pm) may have time for you. All too many of your "peers" are also psychopaths. Hope springs eternal!

"The creeps" "a feeling" "a hunch" "sixth sense" "animal instinct" "size a guy up" they are all the same thing. The natural or developed ability to make an accounting of a person through the clues they give off like speech patterns, posture, figiting or agitation, eye movement, eccesive swallowing, etc. etc. The mind picks up on these clues, most of the time w/o even consciously realizing it.

well stated, northside. this moron is pathetic. one can get the creeps from a mere personality conflict to a hunch that somebody is a serial killer. according to bozo, you should anonymously identify the subject of the creeps on the internet for all to see.

I'd ignore this troll.

How many phone calls do you take a day from police officers in need? How many of your drunken buddies have yopu put into treatment, oh yeah, they don't need treatment, they just kill innocent citizens with their cars and you morons have fund raisers for them.
Tom Nangle is the best "cop" I know. Unless you have done what he has done, you have no right toslam him.
You guys make me feel embarassed to be the police. You are all nothing but a bunch of punks.
