The City that Works (or doesn't)
Just got told by a friend of ours who works at 35th Street that all those phone calls they made Friday and Monday to the eligible personnel on the Sergeant's list were for naught. Today, Tuesday, they are calling everyone on the list back AGAIN and telling them the start date isn't Halloween now, it's been pushed back to at least 8 November, maybe beyond. These people kill us. If we owned stock in the city or the department, we'd be selling and selling short all the time. Who's got another rumor?

Anyone know if the department is cancelling days off on the days the Sox could win the Series?
Does that surprise anyone? I mean, maybe somebody just realized that the Sox were in the Series, that they might have a home game here on the weekend, and if they win, a parade of some sorts (requiring manpower) thereafter. Or maybe the list went to the Hall, and somebody didn't give the okay. Or maybe the politicians didn't get their guy on the merit side of the list. Or maybe the guy who fell into the trunk of his car (our homeland security expert) was working on the list, but when the trunk closed, the light went out, and he couldn't finish it. Or maybe the federal monitor is looking at it.......
The scumbag who shot Det Airhart (spelling?) was found guilty of all 15 counts in Federal Court today!!!
Too bad he'll probably get endless appeals since he represented himself!

I have been in 4 differned units in the military and have seen some fucked up shit but never, NEVER have I been party to The indicision crap that I have seen in the CPD as of late. Ask your friend at 35th st. about the new traffic and security detail assigned to the good Rev. MEEKS church. Twenty five uniformed Police officers standing at intersections and parking lots with orders to watch the church goers cars during the service to prvent theft. This guy who preaches nothing but hate in his chirch and in public forums, bashes the CPD every chance he gets, is given a uniformed Police security force on the tax payers dime... Only in Chicago...

If the church detail thing is accurate (anyone in 005 know anything?), then shouldn't every church in the city get the same detail?; then what about other types of businesses (i.e., restaurants, sports venues, etc.). Hey, why not extend it to house and block parties too?

I cant remeber what night it was, but "services" were letting out at Meeks "Church". The traffic was an abortion at best. The 005th disricts car did the best they could. I dont know how many cars were tied down but it for over an hour.

It never would have come to this in Iraq if Clinton had struck a decisive blow early!!! Further, you didn't mention that Hussein is on trial right now, which is a huuuuuge victory.
I personally am not for the war in Iraq, but I can understand and support why Hussein had to be deposed. They will bring our boys home as soon as Iraq can stabilize their armed forces and government. Contrary to your belief, Bush doesn't like these guys dying either.
Someong sent me an e-mail that stated that Blackjack Pershing, in the early 20th Century avenged a Muslim terrorist attack by dipping bullets in pigs blood and conducting a firing squad upon the Muslims. After this, there were no terrorist attacks for many years. Anyone know the truth of this? If it is true, we could learn something from him.

I heard that the Brits did that In Basra, Iraq recently.
If only that were true. I was in Basra, and the British armies policies were "hands off" in the extreme. Any pattern of frequent engagement by the enemy and they would simply rule that area off limits. It did start getting better towards the end of my tour, but we had very little confidence in our british counterparts.
