Game 1 in the Books

Was it just us, or did the Sox seem totally in control all night? They definitely appeared to be a well seasoned playoff team. It was Houston making all the adjustments, not the Sox, and if Crede isn't the front runner for MVP of the World Series, it'd be Jenks. Good job all around by the boys.

ozzie almost blew it by managing with his heart instead of his head. he should have pulled contreras at the beginning of the 8th instead of letting it get hairy. glad they won but they almost gave game 1 away

THe question is..... Do you think people will celebrate normally when the Sox's win or do you think its going to be like the Bull's riots??

I honestly think nothing much will happen

The Sox have it all in control, this is still surreal. After the game was over I sat and said "The White Sox just won game 1 of the World Series!" wow! This is so awesome. Contreras never really ranked up there with me as the other 3 do. I'm glad Kotts and Jenks just blew everyone away.

When the White Sox win the World Series, and they will, don't worry about any riots. There isn't anything worth burning in Canaryville.

You mean they don't burn crosses on lawns there anymore?

Seriously, I'm glad for them not because I'm a newly converted Sox fan, but because they're a good team and deserve to win.

Maybe now they'll get the respect from the media (Tribune Co excluded) that they deserve.

Hope they win it either Weds or Thurs 'cause I'm RDO!

GO SOX!

I went to about 6 Sox games this year and always carried my off duty snub with me and into the game. Now someone told me that you are not allowed to do that and the Cell is private property they can refuse you entry. It's not like I am going to even think about pulling it out there but traveling in this city I always pack and don't want to leave it in the car. Does anyone know about the rules there?

Sorry, dont know where to post this. I know of several hard working coppers in 016. But last night a Tac Sgt was calling for a 016 car and nobody showed up?

Only responding cars were 017. Now is this just because only dogasses were left on the street or is there a serious man shortage in 016. Lets here it 016.

I should move to the west side wheres I get pooleece service at its bestist.

Supt. Kline expects the off-duty police to do all of the policing in 016 because he has sent all of the tact teams to 011 to knock down the murders. And what's left, just the 200lb bimbos that you can spot nightly, gorgeing themselves at the local eatery.

Security Bubble? God forbid the Cubs ever make it to the World Series. Try putting a security bubble around wrigley field. Would the city deprive the business community on the north side? I don't see the need for this containment at Cell field. They should let the people go and party there it's the atmosphere that's cool. Put up big screens at Armor Park and in the parking lots!

I think the concern is that some lunatic belonging to the "religion of peace" will show up with a backpack full of TATP. These are new times that we live in.

I can't watch these games because I think I must be the jinx that prevents the Cub and Sox from winning. If I don't watch maybe they can win.

I'd be doing breast augmentation in Beverly Hills today but for playing hooky to watch and jinx the Cubs.

Special 35th police. I heard a rumot about some of the special ones who work down at 35th and Michigan got to work the game for a full 12 hours doing actually nothing but collecting a fat OT check.....any truth??????

Every time a dog farts sideways there is some rumour about how working police were standing behind the dog and some house mouse got all the benefits of the fart. These rumours are so bad that I believe nothing unless I see it myself. Go back and read all the crazy promotion rumours from the last two weeks. Everyone writes like they have this secret inside knowledge and we'll all soon see how connected they are. Who thinks those fucking things up?

There are manpower issues in 016 , like everywhere else . Down cars most nights of the week , dogs like other districts , on weekends we send a car to help cover 025 and tact cars are send out alot also. We frequently run with a back log on jobs . This also is a big district, I don't know where the tact Sgt was or the time of day, but there at times is no fast way of getting somewhere .

When the tact Sgt. in 016 asked for an assist, it was to write a traffic citation. He did not say that he needed help to go through the car until after it was apparent that no one was coming up. Yes, there were a few cars available but they were no where near his location at the time. Someone should have responded sooner and the dispatcher should have assigned a car instead of fishing for assistance. One 10 hour car was detailed to 025 and the other 10 hour cars were unmanned for the night. In addition, 016 is sending one two man car to 011 for the weekend nights as are some of the other districts.

In regards to the so-called security bubble, what about the people who live within the bubble. You can't park in front of your own home. Your pregnant, to fucking bad, park three blocks away and walk home. Oh your 70 years old, too fucking bad, oh your on crutches, too fucking bad. Oh you actually live in Chicago and support all this nonsense with your taxes, too fucking bad.

To the idot who said that there is nothing worth burning in Canaryville, you need to get out more often. The homes in Canaryville are selling for in excess of $500.000.00. I doubt that you can afford to live there anyway.

That's funny because 019, 017, & 023 had a car in 011 until 4am Saturday & Sunday morning. How do I know this? Because I heard them on the radio and saw them driving around. Lets give credit where its due. Getting sent to the ghetto out of the academy doesn't make you a tough guy, it just means you're lucky.

To 10:07 am and 1:26 pm - How are they going to know you're carrying your gun, unless you tell them? They don't pat people down now do they?

Private property be damned. You're a Chicago Police Officer and this is still Chicago, isn't it? As long as you have your ID and badge, you should be alright.

I've been to several Sox games this year and they never found my gun.

I work at Wrigley and we've had many calls regarding "a man with a gun." We take the guy aside, they show us their ID and it's all good. We don't throw them out or refuse entry. We just strongly suggest they better conceal the damn thing, so more people don't freak.

I actually dealt with an officer from another state, who had the presence of mind to stop by the Admin office before going into the park. He showed me his credentials and stated the only reason he was wearing his gun is because he didn't want to leave it in his hotel room for fear it would get stolen.

GO SOX!

I dont go anywhere without my gun and that includes the us cell I dont leave it in the car either

I once asked the secutiry guy there and he said if i got my credentials is no problem

I didnt go in his gate and no one asked me anything

I even went to Miller park in Milwaukee Wisc with my 9 mm this year and the only thing I had to do was discard an open bottle of water that I tried to bring in becasue it may have contained alki hol

TO 10/24/2005 01:04:49 AM

The "bubble" went from 33rd to 37th and from LaSalle to Normal. 98% of that is US Cellular and the parking lots and Armour Square Park. The only residential property in there was the senior's building at 3650 S. Wentworth.

Nobody was treated the way you suggest.

Sorry, but you are wrong. Most nightclubs and music venues within the City will not allow you to enter with a gun unless you are on duty. If you flash your star to bypass the line/ get in for free, they will ask if you have a gun. Some places actually have lock boxes in the managers office for off-duty PO's. But don;t kid yourself, they DO have the right to tell you that you aren't bringing a gun in. Plenty of off-duty foolishness has given them reason for this!
