Veterans & Retirees Welcome

We saw a recent comment lambasting a retiree for daring to browse a board "meant" for active coppers. Those who would assume we don't welcome retirees are mistaken. We even sent a nice collection of our advertising to the Chicago Police Association of Nevada to drum up retiree interest. The brain drain that hammered this department in recent years is incredible. We saw a comment (unconfirmed) that there have never been as many cops at Call Back as there are now. We feel this is directly related to the lack of old timers on the job who could tell and teach the youngsters how to behave, write good paper and stay out of trouble. Yes, the job is more technical now than it was for the old guys and there are cameras everywhere, but the old guys did it for years without computers, air conditioning or a union.

We make no claims at being a salty vet, but we certainly aren't wet behind the ears either - we remember where Dispatch used to be, teletype messages, mimeograph machines and manual typewriters. Suffice it to say we have way more than a few years on and a few less than thirty-five. So let's tone down the rhetoric about old timers not being welcome (because we like their stories) and having nothing to teach us - the day you think you know it all is the day you ought to quit, because you've gone from being a cop to being dangerous - to yourself and probably to your partners.

Carlos Saladino (Robbins Campaign Manager/ FOP Disability Committee Member/ FOP Store Worker/ Veteran) sued the police. My union dues hard at work. Everyone has a right to litigate, but that does not mean they should be receiving my union dues money. I wonder if Donahue is going to put this in the newsletter. P.S. - He also sued the Boy Scouts of America. Who is next, FOP?

the point is the payment of dues should NOT be a condition of membership for retirees! The Treasurer John C laments the fact of how much the retirees cost the union. Per capita amounts for state and national lodge and those fop books and stickers. After 30 + years of paying the salary of John C $100,000 a year and he does not do the books FOP uses an accountant running this lodge is a joke not to mention Donahue's $150,000.00. A retiree should have lifetime membership but if he wants the fop book, stickers and a mailed newsletter charge the $25.00 the lodge does now. IT IS NOT THE AMOUNT OF MONEY $25.00 it is the current leadership of this lodge Donahue and Company are using the nonpayment of $25.00 as an EXCUSE to kick the retirees out of the union! Hey John C it was alright for the Union to donate $1500.00 to the high school you coach football at for 8th graders so you could "recurit" potential stars but lets kick out the retirees!

Someone needs their caffeine. Or a straightjacket!!! Hey jerkoff, even though they're automatically deducted what do you think would happen to you if you didn't pay your dues? Fair Share!

Guess what dickhead, they expel you when you make sgt also. Unless of course, everyone now, YOU PAY YOUR DUES.

Maybe they should pay all the bosses dues too???

Must be hallinan or harej gettin' home from the bar.

I know John C. and I think that an accountant better be doing those books.

To 6:08, hey stupid no one is complaining about paying retiree dues, however when you get the notice in Sept. telling you, you'll be dropped from the roles if they don't have it by Nov. it is a bit unreasonable. The only reason that this is done, is so that they can eliminate as many retirees as possible from the voting roles. They, the FOP, don't want us retirees to have an impact on their election. They don't want active officers to know how little they care or do for us, i.e. how much medical we pay, how poor the drug coverage is and that Donahue is a liar regarding the 3% cost of living increase. His comment was "its flying through the legislature", sure it is that was 8 months ago. Then he said it became a partisian issue. Could it be that FOP dropped the ball again, just as they do on some many other active member issues. The officers should quit their country club attitude towards the lodge and realize that they have an obligation to the membership, including the retirees, that they are trying to eliminate.

FOP wants to be involved in the pension board, they say they are for retiree health care, they want you to retire earlier, but they use any excuse to kick you out, in fact their idea is once you miss a dues payment your out FOREVER- why not make retirees a part of the bargaining unit or form a lodge under fop different lodge than 7 for retirees.

This is a question, not a statement, so I would like an answer not an argument.

I thought the FOP could not negotiate for the retiree’s, right or wrong?

Now asking that, if that is the case why do the retiree’s vote in the FOP election?

Remember these are valid questions not statements.

#1 Right you are young grasshopper/ FOP does NOT negotiate for the retirees as they are not part of the bargaining unit. The deal Donahue made with Daley to give back the 23.8 million pension loan was contrary to the written letter opposing the move by all the elected pension reps on the board at the time including hauser and dineen. Donahue had no standing but promised not to litigate or oppose the move but made the deal look like part of the contract. The arb would not have had the authority to rule on this issue. the 23.8 mil give back was not part of the contract but a side deal to insure Donahue's future.

2. There are current unfair labor practices filed against FOP 7 that hopefully will address the question of how members who are not part of the bargaining group can vote and elect the Chief Negotiator Donahue for a contract that afffects only the members of the bargaining unit. The FOP "fraternity" and the FOP "union" should be not be one and the same. This is illustrated in the fop newsletter oct 2005 when Donahue comments on the two expelled members from the "fraternal" benefits of FOP & and NOT the "contractual" benefits, FOP & still covers the two expelled members with legal defense and process grievances.

Why the hard-on for Kubik? I worked w/him for a time and can assure you he is genuine in his concern and dedication to the f.o.p. He goes to all the functions and always knows what is going on over there. For me as a Sergeant I'm more concerned with the f.o.p. than our union. The F.O.P. sets the precident and our paper tiger bosses unions follow. You should be happy to have him up there he is very pro-district law P.O.

that's the problem why not spend your and kubik's valuable time with YOUR UNION if you did not want to leave FOP you should not have taken the strips. anyway check the rules of the department 54b to be exact you can't be a member of fop Lodge 7. Typical sgt know it all let me see your concern for the po when Capt White or someother screwball lt or captain tells you to spar a blue shirt and you know its bullshit your going to spar the blue shirt If Sgt Kubik was so valuable why didn't Donahue bless him back to the city wide team Kubik wanted to stay and even threaten a messy divorce. Sgt dod what you do best and change your own union fight the good fight your a sgt act like one

I never said that "I know it all". What's the matter still salty because you fucked up every exam you ever took? Here is a hint. Review your pathetic post and correct the grammar, spelling and punctuation. We need not be English majors, but what do you think the guy grading those tests thinks when he sees how clowns like you write?
Please tell me, since you know so much about my job, how should I be acting?
Where in my post did I say I didn't want to leave the f.o.p.? You have the analytical and reasoning ability of a coconut. I pray to God you don't work anywhere near me or my family because you make it obvious that you don't know your head from your ass.Donahue didn't bless him back because Mark is Daley's cock puppet.

Hallinan is smarter and more for the rights of the membership than any of you "Donahue coalition assholes". He was intentionally dumped from your pathetic state of candidates because he stood up for what he believed in, didn't toe the F.O.P. company line, and asked too many questions.
Hallinan has a Masters degree in "Labor Relations" from De Paul University that he achieved while working midnights in 011. Unlike our high school diploma heroes controlling the F.O.P. now.
F.O.P. = Graduate of Mayor Daley school of labor relations.

No answer yet as to whether Carlos "FOP Gravey Train" Saladino sued the police - or not. He is the veteran's rep. for FOP. His wife works in the FOP store and he is Robbins campaign manager.

Hallinan is an ass stain. If Pig Vomit hadn't been so arrogant when he spoke to those of us not as smart as him, he might have won. A guy as smart as he thinks he is should have smoked a few of those promotion tests by now.

I voted against the previous contract. D2A was in there for me, but I thought overall, the contract was bad for ALL the members. Several of my friends voted against it also, even though there was that big D2A cherry in there. Every time a Det. from A/4 passed Pig Vomit in the hallway of 011 he said the same thing, "D2A, ha!" or "D2A, yeah right". He never once stopped any of us to explain why he thought the contract was bad or ask our opinion of it.

Over 10% of the P.O.'s who actually vote are Det.'s. Here's a note of advice for Pig Vomit,
Don't talk shit to a large part of the voting block and then turn around and ask for support. Believe me, I told every Det. I bumped into before the last election what a smug little cocksucker he was. I'm sure he'll deny this or say it was in jest, but he's full of shit. So Pig Vomit, go sit your fat ass on your stool at Murray's and tell everyone what a great labor leader you would have been. Your time is up. Now concentrate on doing some police work.

While I have no knowledge of Officer Hallinan or any controversy, I strongly object to your quote in your first paragraph.

YOU STILL DON'T GET IT. Historically, CPD "promotional tests" have little, if any, correlation with native intelligence.

There have been outstanding police officers with Stanford-Benet scores at or above the ninety-ninth percentile who have flunked CPD "promotional tests". Conversely, there are dull-witted "candidates", even possibly morons (beneath IQ = 80) who have "passed" with flying colors.
