Watch this space for names later tonight. It might be a whole lot later though, just so you know. Congrats to the new guys and gals - is this going to affect the pre-sergeants who are in the Areas at this time? We saw that rumor posted in a comments section that they might get sworn in early for either (A) federal grant money or (B) to make room for real detectives.

May all of our new Detectives that were SVU bashing Supercops in the Districts come to the Area spouting how their investigative ability is too good for SVU.
May they learn that SVU does a lot of work that is not known about by the SUPERCOPS because the jobs SVU handles are the jobs that SUPERCOPS blow off.

Detective school is about a month long. It might be a bit longer now since all new detectives are trained to process juveniles, so the soon-to-be sergeants may be gone by the time new detectives come out.

As a Area 2 SVU Dick I cannot wait for the help. I know it is a small class but the GREAT majority of you will be going to areas 1 and 2. I also look forward to the fact that you will all have your 2 month rotation in SVU. I know we are not real dicks, we just handle battered children who have no one to speak for them, Battered Women who are afraid to prosecute, Missing persons including tender age and Elderly people. Also we only handle elderly abuse, but hey, who cares if grandma with alzheimer's is being taken for her money by the caretaker. We also handle those 6 D/C 12 yr old arrests who have never been arrested before and the parents were never contacted when I showed up. Yes, I look forward to all new classes. When the 2 month training is done I have had more than one new dick tell me they never realized the BS that happens in SVU.
The only hope I have is that, Like the old Brek (Sp?) commercial these 51 tell 2 friends and so on and so on.....

IM the area 2 SVU dick. I actually held back on how I really feel. Besides what I said there is always the phone call "what Do I do?" Which is fine but when I ask what their Sgt told them to do the answer is they told them to call us. Same thing with many W/Cs. I know I am not a supervisor but it amazes me ho often Officers, Sgts and W/Cs call us for advice. Before you rip on me I have no problem helping a beat car but when I have to start making decisions for a Sgt and W/C their is a problem. Trust Me. When no one has answer they call the D-unit. I should be making Commanders pay with the advice I have to give out that is only one click away on CLEAR.

Not jealous here because I also did well enough to eventually get made off this list, but the comments about the coppers in 011 are very true. A couple of the guys are superstars and deserve their promotions. The others? Eh, clout babies. I know, I worked with them.
The fucked up thing is how the department manages to "make" its people by granting them a high score, THEN they also "make" their merit picks. I never believed all the bitter old-timers when they would tell me that ALL promotional tests are fixed, and I apologize to them for that, but I see it now.
I almost suspect that they also made a small class to break up the 011th district cluster of high scoring PO's. Rest assured that there will be more of the inner circle of 011 District clout babies made in the next few classes.
I'd rather be working with these guys in the future, but the fact that the department/city can actually slip its sticky fingers into the testing process and award high scores to their clout babies is total bullshit.

You have classes in high school where everyone studies together for four years. They don't all score in the same band on a test. They don't all appear as 6 or 8 in a spread of 50 from a test group of 2000 or 2500. Instead, they are all over the map on SATs and ACTs and almost any exam.
You have people in colleges, law schools and medical schools where everyone studies together for four years. They don't all score in the same band on a test.
Come back with a 4th grader's understanding of statistics before you tell us how its all legit. This is beyond impossible.
You and I and any 2 of those guys could sit down in a room together for 1/2 hour and try to memorize 30 facts.
At the end of 1/2 hour, you think we are all going to have scores within 1 point of each other if we were asked to spit it back out?
Now make that thousands of pages of orders, rules, procedures and laws, and a few years to memorize it. We are all going to fall between 99.5 and 99.55% on the test?

-I work with a group of top notch workers too. We all "stayed out of the tavern" and "kept our heads out of our asses." We all studied the same material. I made this class, and my coworkers range from the 900's-200's. It is naive to think that 8 or so people all made the first class because of a study group, unless that group happened to have access to information the rest of us did not. It is frustrating and demoralizing to those of us who got here legit, and sad to know my non-cheating coworkers will have to wait.

There are 6 or 8 people in this entire city who might say something like this, and its only because they have motivation. You sound like you have personal knowledge of these guys.

This has NEVER happened in history legitimately, and it never will.

Here's a news flash for you, you couldn't give the answers to an extensive test to any 8 coppers, let alone 8 junior west side 1-bag heros, and have them MEMORIZE the answers in 24 or 48 hours, let alone have them know it on the legit.
Either they had advance copies long before the test, or the scoring was flawed, or somebody royally screwed around with the merit in order to entice a few guys into silence. Lots to keep mum about in 011, 'specially when the state's attorney's son is out there running around on the tac team.

You actually think this test was legit? It wasn't. There was a rumor about cheating long ago. Guess it was true. What a fucking slap in the face to those of us who studied and did well. Funny most of those in the top 50 work on the same gang team or are related to each other. Why isn't there a lawsuit? Why isn't FOP doing something about this. I think all of us who took the test should file some kind of complaint.

Having thought about this, the answers might have been provided to someone in 023, and passed to a brother in 011 etc. Lord knows that someone in 023 could catch an occasional city/police bigwig in a compromising and embarrasing position somewhere in 023.
So did the info flow from 011 to 023 (80% odds), or could it have been from 023 to 011 (20% odds). And what is the source in the first place?

The only people I personally know on this list, four northsiders, have always seemed like heads-up, non-whiners who would in my very humble opinion make good dicks.
The group from 011 tact that scored in a tight group were a)studying as a group, b)studying the same material.
The same type of tight grouping on tact teams that went to the "Speshul Chosen Ones" study group with the "Speshul Chosen Ones EXTRA-SPESHUL Study Guide" has happened many times before over the years. It's no suprise.

Settling on only one possible conclusion before any investigation makes you a great candidate for a detective in this department.
I'd agree that this is the most likely scenario, but there are 6 or 8 other reasonably likely possibilities.
The one thing I'd put money on is that it involves Devine, and is an effort to make potential problems for the father disappear. You work tac in 011, you are definitely doing things that Democratic politicians don't want Democratic voters to know about.
Come to think about it, the possibility (probability?) exists that somebody just gave the Devine kid the answers, and he couldn't resist trying to help his friends on the tact team, one of whom turns around to help his sister etc.
Hell, for all we know, the top 100 scores might have just been competitions of 10 groups with the answers. Certainly not saying they were (and not impugning the integrity of those 40 or so on the list who we don't have specific and obvious reason to "doubt"), but in this corrupt city? Anything is possible.
Congratulations to the new detectives, albeit a half-hearted one to the meritorious, or the clout heavy from the Eleventh District; you stole a promotion from someone who worked hard and earned it. And just a word about the SVU: As a past victim of a meritorious promotion process that is really an amalgamation of affirmative action and the same clout referred-above, don't balk at the SVU. Some of the "protected" supervisors can be a pain, but it's the only unit where you might have a chance of doing something for a real victim, unless you feel a four-year-old beaten half-dead somehow bears some culpability for what occurred.
Trust me, some of the best detectives in the city are working homicides and aggravated batteries and they're making a ton of overtime dough, if only they live to spend it. These guys are ten years younger than me and they look like zombies handling the non-stop shootings: dog shoots dog, dog stabs dog. Or lets look at westside sex crimes, you'll be lucky to get two real CSA's in one year. Your typical rape victim has been arrested for prostitution three or four times or is some pierced tongue ,white pig art student from Columbia College who, after coming off the paint thinner she mixed with Redbull, now has remorse for jocking Boo and his two friends from the Manor. You don't need to be Sherlock Holmes to know how to CCX or Unfound this nonsense.
Juvenile processing is soon to go to centralized locations leaving the domestics-and some of those are pretty good-and child abuse to SVU.

If what you're saying is true, that's eight merit picks from 011. Since 20% of 51 detectives is ten, then who are the other two merit picks?
I don't know who is who, but I don't believe eight merit picks came from 011.
The only people that think these PO's from 011 will make good dicks are those PO's from 011(Hmmmmmmm)
Tact teams run around all day pinching addicts for 1 rock possession. Then on a mission date they lock up every juvenile they can find on the streets.(for DC) Then they pull people over randomly, and get lucky with a gun pinch which requires that they "flower up" their case report for probable cause. If you think this is how detectives work, then dont take the test.
Also, every once in a while, Tact gets a decent Dope pinch (hard to believe in 011!)and they put themselves in for an honorable mention. They work less than 8hrs, and have been known to get a "free Day off" now, and then. Lets see where these guys are assigned...

ok. i'm from 011 and in the first class. i've been reading all this stuff, only because another one of my fellow 011th dist "cheaters" told me about it being on here. to be honest, some of it, i've found to be quite amusing, some of it i feel is just outright sad.
first, i'd like to start by saying congratulations to all who are in this det. class, and to all who will make the future classes !!! (regardless of what district or unit you may be from, or if you made it by score or meritorious)
i'll be as short on here as i can, but i will say this... no one from 011, or anywhere else that i am aware of, had any test answers or questions, or cheated in any way !!
personally, i did study some, as i am sure my 011th dist counter-parts did. and i am well certain that the majority of people who took the exam did as well. i am also certain that a good majority of people who took the exam are "working" coppers (again, regardless of what district/unit they may be from).
personally, i do live in 016 and have dealt with 016th dist coppers a couple times, and i also happen to know a few (and teh ones i know, have been in other places and, even in 016, are "working" coppers). i find the "sad" in that you cannot go to one blog (which in theory, seems to be directed primarily at us from 011) to another without seeing something posted so as to bash an entire group of po's from 1 or 2 units/districts. the sadness is that, as one "blogger" stated, we are all the police, and anything can happen anywhere-anytime & honestly, it does seem that we are all we've got for eachother !!! to be honest, i personally would not want to be the 016th dist po who has to deal with the copper related domestic, or the constant "my neighbor's dog is barking & shitting on my lawn all the time" bs !!! honestly, God bless ya for having to put up with that crap !! or the street/traffic stop where you hear "my dad/mom is so & so" all the time. i like very much where i came from, #1 because of the people i worked with, and #2 because those types of complaints were a rarity & #3, because i have learned alot working there !!!!
as for the 1 rock/1 blow dope pinches; yeah, i've made 'em !! no i have not chased down a simpleton hype to do it. i personally have always preferred robberies/burglaries/guns/shootings, etc, but regardless of where you work, you must devote some time to the most prolific problems of that district/area. in 011, as well as numerous other districts in the city, dope happens to be it.

should i have turned the "non-promotion" down? I'D HAVE HAD TO BE A PAPER ASSHOLE TO HAVE DONE SO!!
i did work hard in the district, as did my 011th district counterparts, and as did NUMEROUS other persons in this 1st class !! and i am fully aware that there are thousands of other coppers in this city that do the same !!! i won't sit here and say the the system currently in place is or is not the best available tool to be used to judge who should or should not be promoted (or non-promoted), but from what i understand, it sure as hell beats what existed years past, and currently, it's what we have to work with. i certainly do not believe that promotions should be basically made off of "merit" alone (which my understanding is that is how it is in NY). but i do think that there might be an argument for taking into consideration a po's personal arrest background, in addition to a test score (not so much the # of arrests, but the nature of them).
for those that have simply jumped on the "band wagon" and decided to join the arguement that something is awry i would suggest maybe doing something as simple as just asking around about all of us accused "cheaters". as for those who might truly and honestly believe this was the case, i have the follwing to say. should the city, union, and/or feds conduct an "investigation" into this exam and the appointments of this or subsequent classes, it's been pretty well implied, that when the results come back showing there was no wrong doing, you will simply state that the "fix" was obviously in with them too. so, for that fact, i suggest that you gather up a group of fellow po's who believe this, and hire your own personally chosen attorneys and investigators and allow them to look into it. then, when it results in the fact that there was no underhandedness, no taxpayers money would have been needlessly spent, and "maybe" you'll have nothing more to say.
please, by all means, feel free to attack this post, commend it, do what you wish with it...cuz quite honestly...i don't care. i did work hard in my district, and i will do so in whatever area i am assigned.

12:04, I'll apologize when someone impartial looks over the entire process. You have a good attitude. People here are mostly just asking the question, and its a rather obvious question to ask. Of course there are likely to be the occasional promotions out of 011 tac. The problem the PD is working with here is the pattern.
Not just the pattern identified here for this latest test, but the pattern over the last 5 years that cuts across different tests. There is no way to dispel the "suspicions" regarding these patterns without conducting an investigation.
The thing is, the city would fight this whole thing tooth and nail. I'm not saying that you and/or an occasional other from 011 are not legit. But the big picture would have the city doing a lot of 'splaining, to the grunts, to the public and to Noelle Brennan and the U.S. attorneys.
They fight the official investigations already, you think they would play ball if the FOP or a group of us commissioned a private investigation? No way. We would have to fight the city tooth and nail to get this whole process opened. It simply would not happen voluntarily.
Because some people, AND this Department REALLY cheat.
12:04 Congratulations to you, I have been bashing those alleged 8 from 011. But now after reading more I am on the fence. At first I heard it was Devine and his whole team who made it. Then it was Devine and some of his team. Then I find out after calling my buddy in 011 that 6 mad it and the other to are in different units. my buddy tells me Devine made it and his partner and 7 others bombed it. Next I find out the 6 are from 4 different teams. Then I read that 4 from #189 and 4 from #193 made it and their old boss helped write the test. I call over there and my friend says everbody is laughing about it and there is no boss who just left who helped make the test. So where does it end? Well I am wrong for believing what I hear and not what I know and I am not going to comment unitl I have actual proof of any wrongdoing. Specualtion just does not cut it anymore. The biggest crybabies are the ones who put the least effort into the test, or didn't even take it.....I know this because I asked one yesterday. The officer was bitching about the 011 coppers making it and this officer didn't even take the test.
