Spring Forward

Just in case everyone forgot, this Sunday morning at 0200 hours, clocks move forward 1 hour. So don't be showing up an hour late for roll call and telling everyone you forgot - be warned, we shall all laugh at you. Midnight guys, remember to set your watches and cell phone alarms so you aren't an hour late for check off. Afternoon guys are out of luck as all they loose is an hour sleep.

Posting will be sporadic today, but we are keeping an eye out for any lists. Rumors are dying out slowly and we read that the "merit" board hasn't met yet. Has anyone received phone calls from Personnel? That's the BIG tip off.

This newsflash just in:

Effective immeadiately ALL Patrol Division personnel will be required to swipe in at the start of their shifts. District commanders and W/C's were informed Via their Blackberrys.

This really sucks!

Seiser may not run things to much longer, unless he can defeat the swipe card reader machine!!!

Its about time. Swiping in is the way it should be. This will stop officers from ditching work early. Also there are so many who are late everyday. Punish them!

First of all, fuck you.

Now then, the only thing it will stop is being carried for the entire day without showing up. you swipe in to verify you were there. You don't have to swipe out.

Sounds like it will effect D-Div supervisors more than anyone!

The swipe thing is bullshit. The have started to remove the swipe machine from most districs several months ago. The company who made the machines and wrote the software is out of business.
The city is taking machines from one location to replace bad ones in other locations.

Dont worry about the swipe thing.

Swiping in is good. Remember, you cops are just blue collar workers. Notice you wear blue shirts like factory workers. Its just the class of people you guys are. P.S. Do you guys carry lunch boxes too.

Swiping in isn't such a bad thing. All the dogs who are late everyday will have to get their asses moving.

Swiping out........that would be a pain in the ass. I've worked in industries where you punch a clock, and no matter how well organized, there is always a line to get out the door. That would be bullshit.

Warning, warning, warning!

There are ways to easily get around the swiping until they do biometric scans (e.g., fingerprint, eyes), and its been done before.

If you are supposed to be at work and you aren't, the world is rapidly reaching the point where discrepancies can be easily identified. I'm just saying, y'all have been warned.

You'd be surprised how many people have this problem. Here's your answer.

Go to sleep at 2200 hrs. after setting your alarm for 0200 hrs. When the alarm sounds, get up and set all clocks one hour forward. Then go back to sleep.

It's been a tradition in my family for generations.

All bloggers must now register.

While you may use a nom de plume or nickname, you must now sign in.

This should screen out the juvenile drivel, rumormongers and porn freaks.

Well done, SCC!

C'mon, guys!

Responsible criticism of your employer (The City of Chicago) on matters of public concern are protected by the First Amendment.

If the City makes any attempt to retaliate against you for exercising your First Amendment rights, sue them in Federal Court pursuant to 42 U.S.C. Section 1983.

Your weekend homework assignment follows: No need to go to a law library. Use the respective Supreme Court (boldface) citations to download the cases on GOOGLE.

Read and digest the following three cases, in order:

Connick v. Myers, 461 U.S. 138, (1983) ("Connick")

Pickering v. Board of Education, 391 U.S. 563, (1968) ("Pickering")

Mt. Healthy City Board of Education v. Doyle, 429 U.S. 274, (1977) ("Mt. Healthy")

While I am NOT an attorney, I offer my advice gratis to any active police officers who believe that the City has committed any retaliatory First Amendment violation(s). LITIGATION is the only thing the CPD understands.

You may eMail me at:

All inquiries will be kept strictly CONFIDENTIAL.

While you cannot just walk into Barnes & Noble or Borders and buy a copy of this rather esoteric tome, you can place it on order. It will provide invaluable and definitive information when suing the City of Chicago for First Amendment violations.

Also, You will probably find it at any law library.

The Labor Lawyer's Guide to the Rights and Responsibilities of Employee Whistleblowers by Stephen M. KOHN and Michael D. KOHN.

Quorum Books, ISBN: 0-89930-207-6

Pay particular attention to Chapter 5 (pp. 73-89) entitled OVERVIEW OF A WHISTLEBLOWER CLAIM.
