First Challenger?

State rep Luis Gutierrez has all but thrown his hat into the mayoral ring, giving a statement that sounds suspiciously like a campaign platform. From the Sun Times:
  • U.S. Rep. Luis Gutierrez insisted Monday he hasn't decided about running for mayor, but he sounded a lot more like a candidate than a Washington lawmaker as he laid out his ideas for improving the city and took shots at some of Mayor Richard Daley's pet projects."
  • It would be awfully hard for me to say no to a campaign for mayor if that campaign can help Chicago," Gutierrez said at a luncheon hosted by the City Club of Chicago, a nonpartisan civic group.
Daley has his first serious minority challenger. All he needs now is a second one (Jesse Jr.?) to split the vote and he's well on his way to securing another term.

Who remembers this story in regard to Gutierrez and the use of Gang members during elections? Getting the vote out.
Gutierrez claimed once he knew the paid workers were gang members he would not use their services. Hmmm

Ligas said Gutierrez is being coy.

"He's delivered jobs in the past," Ligas said. "Gangs came out in the 4th Congressional District and he won huge. Luis Gutierrez sent a message to the aldermen that this is the way to win."

Ligas is advising Chicago cop Joseph Pagan in the 30th Ward aldermanic race. Pagan, who lost a 2000 race against Gutierrez for Congress, is challenging opponents to pledge not to use gangs.

1:03, most here seem to agree, but the question is who would you rather choose?
Page up to the first post, and think about it.

Either way it's a vote for Daley.

In 1989, then Alderman Gutierrez went against the prevailing Latino opinion to endorse Daley's candidacy for mayor. Later, Daley helped Gutierrez in his bid for Chicago's first Hispanic congressional seat.

What nobody really wants the job, except for Daley. Looks like a done deal and we already knew it would head in this direction. Lame contenders and no viable option leaves you with Daley.

Daley in his foresight, knowing that Hispanics are and will be the largest growing population, planted the HDO into the ground. Daley wants another term to beat his dad, but all his men are dropping. If Sorich or Laski flips, that will be the end of "M".

L.G. is a principle member of the HDO. I do not see L.G. splitting the vote 3 ways between M, and Jr. I think this move indicates that Daley will give up the thrown. Maybe he won't even come back form over-seas!

to wit:

suntimes:

Asked if he believes Richard M. Daley can be beaten, Donovan said, "Mayor Daley has done a great job. He has tremendous capital built up in this city. It's a question of whether the mayor wants to run again. Richard Daley would be re-elected. ... Last I knew, he wasn't on trial. ... I haven't seen any [corruption-related] damage that has come close to Richard Daley."

I've never voted in the Mayoral election since I moved into the city to be CPD (shithead mayor makes sure that his election date doesn't coincide with any other elections to make the voter turnout strictly those who owe their jobs to the king).

As an earlier poster said I'll vote for Daley if its the King, vs Cop Hater Racist Jagoff 1, vs Cop Hater Racist Jagoff 2. Hell, I'll let the King put a sign in my yard and I live on the corner.

I can't stand the King but he is a much better option than what we r being presented with. Can you imagine this city with either Jesse or Luis as Mayor. I'd never make an arrest again!!!!!!

Long live the King!!!!!!!

Correct you are. Ligas attempts to pass himself off as a community activist, but actually his only interests are real estate related.

Think about it this way. Daley tells Gutierrez to run to split the minority vote in a 3-way race with Jackson Jr. Daley Wins. Daley then backs Luis in another run for Congress. Jackson then has to play ball with Daley to get re-elected to his own Congressional seat.

Love those Democarps!

----------------

Who would vote for Daley? If it's a 3 way, he looses. Every Brotha will go for Jr. The only reason Pac suppoered Daley is cause he created the HDO adn supported them. There aren't THAT many whitey's in Bridgeport and Canaryville! The only way he wins a 3 way is if every condo developer gets 10 votes to our one!

He's alienated all the City workers. They might not vote AGAINST them, but they are probably not vote FOR him. He's in trouble.

No one wins without a majority. We now have open elections in Chicago. Top 2 have a runoff.
