What the ... ?!

As we understand it, the Texas Rangers were (are) an historic law enforcement agency, with a long and storied history (see their website here). They are a kind of unofficial representative of Texas Law Enforcement in general. They also happen to have a baseball team named after them. So what's up with this?
Now before some Saturday night drunk flies off the handle and accuses us of racial insensitivity, Cinco de Mayo is NOT some holiday celebrating Mexican heritage. It is the commemoration of a MILITARY BATTLE, and a losing battle at that. An American baseball club celebrating a foreign nation's military heroes is political correctness run amok and pandering of the highest order. Especially in light of the backlash forming at illegals demanding full rights without any of the duties of citizenship.

That’s nothing more than a great advertising scheme by the rangers. Mexicans buy into the hole Tex-Mex thing and now they have a base ball shirt. If you want to talk about shameless, how about the thought of renaming solders field.

Back from St. Jude's. Nice turnout.

I liked the sign the sign held by the lady near the grandstand asking why the bosses are silent on the Hampton issue.

How about that St Jude March. Awsome turn-out I'm glad nobody decided to boycott. And that female with the sign that said something referring to the exempts not speaking out on the Hampton issue was classic. The classic part was that she kept the sigh up to her eyeballs covering her face the whole time, wore sunglasses and a baseball hat. But she wants the exempts to come out publicly...lead be example

How about "Clueless Gene" from 9th. 50 feet from the reviewing stand he turns around and asks his troops "who can call cadence? come on up" Nothing like planning ahead! Then the idiot dismisses his troops half way through the executive staff (which was just past the reviewing stand at ground level) while the back of the troops were still in front of the stand saying "OKAY SEE YA ALL AT CONNIES FOR BREAKFEAST" Maybe it was his way of silent protesting the Dep Ch of Area 1 who he referrs to as "brokeback deputy"

Hey SCC,

According to the Texas Ranger Timeline, the Rangers were created BY the Mexican government. Take a look:

1821 Mexican Independence from Spain.

Moses Austin is commissioned an empresario by the Mexican government and authorized to bring settlers from the U.S. and Europe to the Mexican territory of Tejas (Texas).
Settlers are offered land in Tejas if they will become naturalized Mexican citizens, adopt the Catholic faith and learn Spanish. After an untimely death, Stephen F. Austin, (Moses Austin's son) assumes the commission.

American and European immigrants stream into the Tejas territory between 1821 and 1829.

1823

The Mexican government, wracked by political and economic turmoil following Independence, cannot protect its northern territories from attack by hostile Indians.
the pressure of Indian raids, two companies of "men . . . to act as rangers for the common defense" are formed under Stephen F. Austin's authority as empresario. These men are commonly regarded as the first Texas Rangers.

Cinco de Mayo or not, the Texas Rangers (baseball team or PD)can call themselves whatever the fuck they want, no matter who's feelings get hurt.

We need to start a Post St. Jude March Thread. Maybe SCC can transfer this to start a thread, and maybe get some pictures.

Very good turnout, a lot of cops brought out their kids.

We were joined by Cook Count Cook County Sheriffs, Illinois State Police and UIC Police.

About the best weather for a march that I can remember. Just perfect sunshine, a light cool breeze so that the dress blouse feels just right.

Lots of good people watching, some holding signs "Saying God Bless Our Police", and "Don't be silent about the Hampton sign."

The 10th District had that guy who got his foot run over there. He was looking well, and he did the whole march.

ON CRUTCHES!!

So what was your excuse for not going, and showing the politicians that we can raise a crowd too.

Richie Daley wasn't there. He never comes to the St. Jude March. Right now he's on his way to China, where I hope he gets some bad Egg Foo Yung.

Personally I thought the sign was extremely tacky and in poor taste. Take that shit somewhere else. The St. Jude's parade was not the time or the place. Other then that- all was well!

Fuck the truth hurts bull shit! How about being there to honor fallen officers, not express opinions on street signs, boss?

That's great if you want to express your feelings by way of a homemade sign. More power to you- I'm just saying the St. Jude's parade was not the place to do it.

What are you talking about? This is my first time logging in here as I just got home after dining with friends.

A tacky sign and the wrong place? Screw you.

Supt. Cline can't even buck it up and make a statement or have Camden say something to support our fallen and disabled officers at the hands of the Panthers? As well as his officers that risk their lives on a daily basis trying to shovel this crap off our streets? Yet he's building a HUGE memorial? OH...OK!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Equally as tacky, the Memorial Foundation. They should have been in contact with these families. What the hell? They can't bother to pick up the f*cking phone or visit in person? There's no need to advertise to just be there for the families and any else that needs the support.

But thanks for telling me what apparently the CPD is all about. It's all about painting on the sad faces when we have an officer lying in the casket, then writing a check, and appearing on the 5 O'clock news asking "why, Why, WHY?!"

But when push comes to shove, and when one of you or someone else needs the support and help from your own department, you know the answer to that, don't you? damn sure you do.

When you become disabled on the job and they pick and chose what to do with you, and you end up getting kicked to the curb, hey, let us know once again you're appreciation.

When some goofball aldermen want to honor a jagoff that killed one of your family members that wore a star, and nobody supports you where you work, let us know how warm and fuzzy you feel, ok?

But hey, thanks so very much for setting me straight today.

Supt. Cline and Sgt. Murphy, I am extremely.... disappointed... in you.

That's great that you want express your views and your opinions. Most of them seem justified and I even agree with some of them. All I'm saying is that standing on the corner at the St. Jude's parade with your little sign expressing the way you feel about a street sign and the lack of brass backing the opposition of it didn't seem appropriate to me. You should have been there to pay honor to and and remember the fallen officers, not express your personal opinions. Isn't that what this blog is for?

By the way, one of my loved ones was one of the officers honored today and I was wondering if you wouldn't mind explaining to his young child why some crazy bitch was standing on a street corner with a sign that had nothing to do with why we were there this morning.

Thanks!

I don't give ten cents to the memorial-it's just more grandstanding, piss-pot Irish bullshit. If they cared about policemen your political hack senior police executives might hire more of them. Maybe more coppers on the street to cover the job ultimately means less coppers names on a memorial.

I can appreciate the fact that someone has lost a family member or comrade.

But let me know when they want to pass a street sign honoring the person(s) that killed them.

Then let us know how you feel then.

I would have explained that to anyone who would have told me how they felt....

Do you read the news or do you just pick and choose from the headlines?

Cline did respond to the naming of the street. He wasn't holding up signs at the St. Judes parade but he didn't sit quietly either.

Oh and a few other things-

Who the fuck appointed you to "manage" the men and women of the Chicago Police Department anyway? I must have missed that election.

And you keep saying "our decision". Is there a mouse in your pocket or are you talking about the voices in your head?
