If we hate our FOP as much as we read about it here, Who or Whom would we choose to replace them?

How much would you be willing to pay for dues?

What benefits do we deserve, and at what price?

Comments, Please!

In the past decade I have attended many meeting's, and not once has ANY patrolman ever been right or correctly informed on their concern's, or opinion(s). So you tell us sir why should anyone bother to attend.
This is a FACT not an OPINION.

Could the FOP please attend the next graduation ceremony, and tell all the recruit's that 70% of all that are there, that they will never be promoted, or put in a unit.
PLEASE SOMEONE tell the truth. Tell them, its only right, and the TRUTH.

11:40, could please post the union dues for local teamster's, and their benefit's ect., and we could begin from there.
I hear that the fire contol pipe fitter's retire at about $100,000. with benefit's.
Say could you plese tell everyone here that a city garbage collector make's just a little less than us. How much different are their benefit's than our's?
I may be wrong, and I'm pretty sure your going to say we are, but the last time we checked we weren't.
Folk's the union's a joke, go to the next meeting, and observe.

I have to agree, it's hard getting things done through FOP. FOP is not a union. Not sure about the Teamsters, look at there track record and past in house problems. Not enough PO's stand arm to arm over FOP related issue's. Lodge can have all seats filled and issue's addressed can be excused away.

FOP SHUFFLE DANCE, first put your hands in your pocket, then you shuffle, shuffle, shuffle. That's how you do the FOP Shuffle, THAT'S WHAT IT'S ALBOUT SHUFFLE.

Could the FOP file a "safety" lawsuit against the city

(1)for not having enough officers in the streets??

(2)For not having equipment that works?

(3)For not having new vests re-issued every 5 years when they expire?

(4)For allowing us to use flashlights that don't even hold an 8 hr charge?

(5)For not having lunches on a daily basis because we're always in a backlog? They say put in a slip every time you don't get lunch, but then you're not a "team-player" and get "punished" - but according to the FOP its not punishment, because you're still employed???????

No, they can't file any of the suits because they're going to jump into the mix and file a suit for the retiree's medical, which was already done, and to the point of arbitration, and yet they post letters of "need to file" on their website,to justify their actions.

Sad to say, at least with Bill Nolan you knew what to expect. With this crew, they'll say anything, but do nothing!!!!

Fox News did a story on the memorial, and the run. They say certain buildings will be lit in blue this weekend. I like that, but it sounds like it's only a few, and not well known buildings. This is something that I would like to see more of. Maybe all those big name buildings (Sears, Hancock, etc) blue for a week (Maybe Police Week?) like they light them for the holidays and such. That would/could be something to get behind for the future.

Richard Daley is in the Mid-East learning about how to handle terrorist attacks.

First Thing: Get rid of Hubberman, and anyone else who says that training police officers to respond to a terrorist attack is not practical.

Have what you need in place, and available, to the responding beat cops, in the first minutes of an attack.

Don't wait for Washington and FEMA to take charge.

Have a flexible plan, and teach the first responding beat cops what that plan is.

trust me you don't want the teamsters as our representation, I had them twice in my life, once from ups local 705 they were awesome , really stood up for the truckers... then I had them at the county for sheriff's local 714 and it was like night and day, they have no legal representation like we do and their dues are more than ours by a little over 100 bucks, they only thing they did for the county was get them a raise that brought the court service deputy's closer to pay to the correctional officers. they do nothing else they only care about the truckers!!!! thats their bread and butter.... when hr 218 came out they were not even informed about it, that passed because of the fop, same thing with signed affidavit. My wifes coworkers were still answering to allegations without the signed affidavit, that all changed after she finally got accused of something, I made sure that her dept had a signed sworn affidavit in which they did not, then I made sure that she was given a direct order before answering any questions, they refused too--- they teamsters are on capital hill representing the truckers not law enforcement... more truckers than cops, more money to be made, can't say i fault them for this either. So if you want the teamsters representing you go work for the county, court services to be exact and then come back and tell us if you still want them!!!!! others wise keep your mouth shut until you experienced both sides of the coin......FOP does more for law enforcement then any other union in the nation....just look at the track records of all the stuff they got passed and what other union got passed i think it might be something like 10-1....

• Just 33 percent of the public approves of Bush's job performance, the lowest of his presidency. That compares with 36 percent approval in early April. Forty-five percent of self-described conservatives now disapprove of the president.

• Just one-fourth of the public approves of the job Congress is doing, a new low in AP-Ipsos polling and down 5 percentage points since last month. A whopping 65 percent of conservatives disapprove of Congress.

• A majority of Americans say they want Democrats rather than Republicans to control Congress (51 percent to 34 percent). That's the largest gap recorded by AP-Ipsos since Bush took office. Even 31 percent of conservatives want Republicans out of power.

To go along with another poster. We don't want the teamsters!!!

I worked for the county at the jail before the CPD and got accused of beating up one of the inmates. I called my union (the teamsters). They came back to me with what they come back to everyone with. I talked to IAD. If you resign they won't prosecute. I told the teamsters to shove it up their ass and I got my own lawyer.

My lawyer gets to froms, from several CO's stating I was here at this time and other CO's saying they never saw me and they would have had to see me if I did this because of where it allegedly happened. IAD confronts inmate, inmate drops claim. I quit the union the next day and go fair share. Thats why the teamsters don't have the jail guards anymore. This is fact not fiction.

The teamsters no nothing about defending allegations of misconduct. With them it will be 50% meritorious for all promotions and 13 sick days a year.

They r already in bed with Daley and that is public knowledge. Look at the amount of money they give to his campaign. It will do nothing for us.

Fuck the schemesters!!!!!!!!!!

The president lacks the courage to change course. The whole country is paralyzed by his cowardice.

there are only three areas a public sector union can negotiate with the city.

Hours

Wages

Working conditions

residency falls under working conditions and is a negotiable item everwhere in the state of Illinois except Chicago

Why

Because the current leadership was told to contest the statue that does not permit arbitration over the issue of residency years ago and until recently to placate the membership and act the this union is FOR THE MEMBERSHIP put some "window dressing" and got some politician from outside Chicago on a subject they have no interest in pursuing!

Is it odd that Donahue rallies around the health care issues for retirees and then throws retirees out of the union because of $25.00 dues for an fop book and some stickers that retirees have no use for.

No one on the FOP Board pays ANY DUES!! They get it all reimbursed at the Christmas Party.

They have two sgts, one merit on the board now gettting $5,000. of blue shirt union dues. What the FUCK!

To all you guys who bitch about this job, piss off!

Before I came on the job I worked manual labor, was in the Marines and this job is heaven compared to most jobs. We get paid pretty fucking good for what we do. Good benefits that would cost much more in the private sector (and they expect results) NOBODY has a medical/sick leave that we have.

I would work much harder and longer than if I was in the private sector for about 1/2 the money.

We all knew what we were getting into when we signed up and nobody is holding a gun to our head (pun intended) to keep us on this job.

I have friends on suburban departments that have told me horror stories about their bosses and the politics in their towns. We aren't asked to do even 1/10 of what some suburbs demand for "performance" 30 tickets and a DUI arrest a week (even day watch) for one NW suburban PD.

In spite of the manpower shortages and other assorted bullshit, we have it good. Ask any LAPD, NYPD or Dallas officer.

If you don't like it, GTFO

I posted first today about FOP as a Union (fraternal organization) and I've read some interesting material from officers who worked in other unions. Many of our brothers and sisters have never been in any kind of a union or have had to pay dues.

And yes, I attend at least 80% of all the FOP meetings along with a handful of the other regulars.

Back in 1978-79 the teamsters were trying to become our Union (by passing out tons of free stuff, jackets, hats, t-shirts, pins, pens, bumper stickers, u-name it).

They wanted two hours of your normal pay as dues per month. It was a little steep, but that was what the truck drivers were paying. They kept telling us not to worry about striking or picket lines as they knew we would never be allowed to strike. And if our contract came to an impass, we could set up informational picket lines which the truck drivers would not cross.

But alas, it came down to FOP or the City Plan (City Plan was to stick your thumb up your ass and beg for forgiveness at asking for a raise or more benefits).

Our biggest problem with FOP is our re-electing STRAIGHT TICKET TEAMS of who they want and not voting for a few from each party or team running. Our last two elections were for STRAIGHT TICKET all the way teams. When will we learn our lesson?

If we are stuck with FOP, then lets put some people in there from all sides to work for us and not themselves. And to put people in there, we have to have members who attend at least half or better of all the meetings per year.

One of the FOP bylaws states that to be eligible to run for office, a member in good standing must have attended over 50% of the meetings in the year preceeding the election (right now there are about 140 qualified to run for office out of 10,000-it's pitiful).

And then maybe we can reduce the dues for the retired guys to free or $5.00 for that crummy sticker and book.

And no, i'm not gonna run, by the next election I hope to be retired myself.

5/05/2006 08:03:00 PM
Anonymous Anonymous said...

On FOP the straight ticket voting is the problem. You need fresh blood in FOP and you as members should be seeking them out from amongst you. Paying your dues apply's to when you may need representation and lucky when you get the right representation. It is not enough to sit on the sidelines. What you don't want are individuals who look the other way when mgmt. is overboard. Have you ever seen an officer stand up to mgmt.? Yes, there is backlash but there wouldn't be if you rounded up around that officer. Again you only hurt yourself in the end. Mgmt. knows it as a sign of weakness. Mgmt. understands this but you seem not to care or play indifferent.

If you feel you have been wronged, chances are you have been. Why so many of you do not pride your contract book is beyond me and others, who under it's importance. You would also be amazed how you can flip the city's game of past practice. Although there are deemed reasons many of you don't know what is happening during contract negotiations, you would be shocked by the conversations and deals that are cut which hurt you in the long run. There are still some good boss's but the neighborhood has gone to hell.

Step up or keep being the doormats you all claim you hate being.

The Invisible M3 and Plumping Up the Economy

The Subsurface World of Inflation, Cannibalism and the Plight of the Squeezees

Real income for working people has actually been trending downward over the years. In inflation-adjusted terms, on average, working men and women are actually making less money than in the 1970's and our quality of life is going down. The demise of union pension funds, the under-funding of public schools, the deterioration of public health programs, the curtailment of library hours and the cutting of worker salaries all contribute to the general decay in the standard of living. What we need to appreciate is how the economic and financial shenanigans of the Administration, such as its recent elimination of reporting on M3 data, are deliberate steps toward unraveling the, albeit minimal, progress made since WWII by the Northern Hemisphere's middle and working classes, all in the cause of preserving profit for the ownership class.

Officer's that have accomplished things in further of the rank and file should be considered. Sounds like a change may be needed in the 50% ruling. It's hard to affect change because yay's votes always outnumber the nay's. H*ll I wonder if the PO's in the back really hear what's going on. Voting yes, might be considered by those casting as taking their part in being FOP strong. Hate to say it but they may be confused about loyalty and importance. My opinion it's all in the marketing.

FOP sucks balls. Let's face it boys and girls, all that money that we dump in and what do we get???Half assed representation, a pocket calendar and stickers that mean jack.
True story: Two people (one represented by FOP) were working special and a person in custody died. The individual represented by FOP had a flunkee show up to represent him, the other who was represented by PBPA had an attorney show up. In the end it all worked out, but only because the attorney forced the FOP representative to listen to legal reason.
Sorry to be so vague, but those of you on the job will understand and may even know the individuals.
Not to stir the pot, but an individual was indicted a little while ago for "beating" a helpless citizen in a district which was caught on tape. Dept dropped him like a hot potato and the FOP followed suit. The case recently went to trial and the individual was aquitted. Besides the fact that his partner had to turn rat due to his own "issues" (watch out he is still on the street), this individual was not hired back by the city with pay and the FOP is still doing nothing.
It may be hard to belive, but verify the info and spread the word.

Reality FOP is limited in what they can do and sometimes in what their willing to do. I think there are trade off's that do occur. Again it's back room stuff. The usual political BS.

OK, OK...by reading this far one can tell that we [us collectively] have our own personal [agenda] gripes. That's O.K. too as [last time I checked] this is still America and were on the SCC blog. That's what this is all about.
So....IF yopu want to vent OFF TOPIC, use this site. If a particular SCC site topic makes you go lights and siren...GO THERE. If you just want to express your 19 Paul, keep it real, keep it here.
Now, that having been said....MY 2 cents.
By now we ALL should know the REAL reason for St. Jude Sunday. The Mayor WON'T be there so don't use him as an excuse. [He don't care about us, all prejudice and politics removed, so WHY concern ourselves with him]
Lets show up en masse for the REAL reason...OUR commitment to the families of those that made the supreme sacrifice along with OUR message to THEM to....."Never Let Them Walk Alone."
Rememember our Thin Blue Line.
Hope to see you there [MY 35th year]
Bless ALL my brothers and sisters.

This is open post Friday
I don't know that I would refer to some of the FOP posts as personal agenda gripe. I look at these posts as what can be changed, how can it be changed, what are they saying. Some may show frustration and that's how change comes about. Maybe there's not enough participants who are frustrated enough to make change a reality.

To the officer who slammed 020 officers and supervisors:

We figured out who you are and the truth is this: You and your two partners got dumped by the so called "stroke" gang sergeant because he asked to you actually do the work of a gang officer. Making arrests for mopes on the street with paper bags around 40s and taking dime bags off of 8th graders isn't exactly gang supression.

Now that you are on the watch, you three are continuing to show how great coppers you are by taking personals and going for lunch whenever the dispatcher calls you for jobs. I will give you this--you don't use the old "unavoidable traffic stop" to get out of a job, you just don't show up.

As for those on the desk being cowards, try and come up with a new line. Maybe it is because you and your buddy with the 1950's duck tail haircut (complete with Brylcream) don't have the brainpower to answer the new phones.

Being a Police Officer or a cop for that matter is no longer a great job. If you have been on this job long enough to see the spiral down then you understand. This job has been turned into just a job by the powers to be. The problem with turning it into just a job is it is a dangerous job. N.Y. has good medical benefits, and they and other's have their problems but this is not there it is Chg. I get tired of the benefits we have won continually thrown in our face. An example easy one to pick. what's the lawsuit behind medical benefits. Any benefit should not be traded off period. Don't tell me the pay should not be more. That would be a line for mgmt. and one of their favorite lines to use. I also know people in the private sector that make more. I also worked numerous jobs in the private sector. What does that have to do with this job, nothing. It's harder today to enjoy your job and make ends meet then it was 5, 10 yrs. ago and you hear it across the board, not just here but on the beat in the hallways at the lodge. Guess I'm a union minded and proud of it. I'm for the PO's that feel they need better working conditions and better benefits.

Lt, sorry to say but we all know its you making this post because the only "working" you know is getting in and out of the squad to go tour the D.O.C now that you can't sit and watch tv all day. Please, if you feel compelled to tell any more war stories either bid to 018 and play with lil Naepollian or go to 2nd watch and pair up with Gordon (you 2 can take down all the gangs in 008 with the hot air created by the tales you guys tell). Glad to see 3rd watch now has a boss that can and will right the sinking ship, welcome abboard Capt!

A few thoughts:

1) I like living in the city, if I didn't i'd be a suburbanite.

2) Abouot FOP elections, A straight ticket is OK as long as one all on the ticket are OK. Things go WRONG when you have one acceptable candidate and THE OTHERS ARE LOUD-MOUTHS KNOW-IT-ALL SHITHEADS. FIND GOOD CANDIDATES AND HIRE PRO.S TO DO OUR BIDDING ON CONTRACTS.

3) finally to 12:46AM,
This is still a good job as long as you hired on to be a policeman. If you took the job just to be a member of a fraternal order then quit and join the ELKs, MOOSE or the RACOONS. I hear you will get a couple of free beers with you membership.

Yep, on the nail head policeman and not a cop. The union package now rolls in with the job. Since it's there as part of the package and as long as it's a workable product it should be improved upon. There are trade off's, I understand that, since that is what negotiations are about. There should never be give backs. Officer's should be duly informed and respected. Your right about a straight ticket if and only if each and every officer to be elected will really work for the rank and file after they get their office. Big basket to fill one bad apple and all goes to hell in a hand basket. Basis they will support each other.

to 6 40 08 suburban taxes!

If you have children do you include the $8,000.00 a year to send them to Loyola or Marist, Rita etc... as taxes.

The highest rated schools in the state are public in the suburbs where your taxes pay the tutition.

Send your kids to Kennedy and have a bunch of teachers stand by and look at a bounch of gangbaggers throw SHIT on him.

The point is stay in the city if you think it is so great.

I'm going to St. Judes but I still want to know why it is on a Sunday and not in the afternoon on a weekday when somebody will see it. If the illegal aliens can march at 4:00 in the afternoon on a Friday, why can't we? The St Judes parade is VERY VERY impressive and I think that we should share our pride and the reason for the parade with the public.

Im 2 blocks out of district from the only half way decent public high school in my area and they wont take my kid. Now I have to put out $8500 a year for a private school, and continue driving my shit car with 130000 miles on it.
In the meantime, GD Joe and Latin King Elfonzo drive a new hummer.
Whats wrong with this picture. And now I get to watch the new blue strobe lights out my bedroom window at night with the new crime fighting camera that was installed.

Offender broke the plate glass window to the dry cleaners. Remained on the scene. I went in and dropped off clothes. Offender waiting for a cab. Owner tells me that he broke the window. Cab comes and offender gets in. 22nd District still hasn't arrived. I flash badge and tell cab driver not to leave. 2211 shows up. Over weight white gut with salt and pepper hair and mustache gets out. I go to get something from Calabria. When I come out 2211 is gone. 2290 is there. I ask the dry cleaner if they locked offender up. He tells me that 2211 wouldn't lock him up and let him go. Fucking COWARD. This mother fucker is the guy showing up when your wife/mom/da/kids call the police. Working 2211 on the second watch. As I drove home i saw the mother fucker leaving the white hen parking lot. Name something like F****t. Tell everyone call 22. Let this motherfucker work the east end of the district if he don't wanna take care of business. Asshole probably lives in 22 too since he's working there on days. Out him and get rid of him. You could be next.

Why can't FOP figure out a 5 day work week? How can they allow our medical to run out in a few years? Why can't they do something about the shortage of PO's on the street and too many of them sitting on their asses at the Ivory Tower or hiding in the offices in the districts? How can they allow our police widows to live on almost nothing? Shouldn't those be concerns?!

WOW! So hard to get a computer at work with all these midnight guys shopping online. And I wish I saw some of that passion from the cops in 020 when they are on the street.
And because I criticize I must be a dog or have gotten dumped? Good logic flow there. Maybe I am a communist too. Why not? I work hard and expect others to do the same. That's what we get paid for.
I never said that all the people here in 020 are bad or lazy. Maybe paying attention to what was written would help.
Yes there are decent cops in 020. They show up when I call for back-up (and you will continue to). There are some hard working tact guys in 020....mostly from the 2061 team. Each watch has it's good and bad people. Don't be upset when the bad are exposed. But that Sgt on the Gang team is a stroke. Doesn't cut his guys ANY breaks at all and we know that is one of the perks of being tact/gangs.
But let's be serious for a minute and talk about this district...crime is less than anywhere else in the city so it makes for plenty of problems between people.
But does that excuse 2011 afternoons from writing tickets and verbally abusing mothers and grandmothers coming home from work and picking up their kids? Have you ever seen these guys stop anyone other than a white person? Or maybe an illegal immigrant?
Does that excuse a certain 2nd watch female officer from going to her house in the district and drinking during her tour of duty? Does that excuse a certain cowardly midnight cop from not locking up a mope for a gun becuase the paperwork is too confusing?
What about the third watch cop who makes about one arrest a month? I mean, crime is slow here but not that slow.
At least 020 has gotten rid of some of its problems...the drunk to 015, the "rat" to the TRU, do nothings to the A/3/Sat team, a storyteller to the Area 3 Gun Team...and the list goes on and on.
And, DEB, do you think you should say anything? Remember writing an ambulance driver a ticket? Getting dumped from days? Sleeping in your car on midnights? Writing DUI's to people just to get an award...how sad. Or is just that you had some free time to write on this site during your tour because you didn't want to help a copper on the street by doing a search (I saw you refuse to do it when you were asked and then sit at the computer and surf the net). Yeah, you are REAL concerned about other cops. Show us how concerned you are by helping out when asked.
Finally, one apology...hey Tiger. Sorry. You are up to two arrests for burglary in 6 months. And taking on a partner is not likely to help you. It's not your ability, it's becuase you got a spot that others deserve and one you got dumped from before for lack of activity and medical abuse.
But for the rest of you who do work and do it without perks, I am sorry if you were offended.
Failure and poor behavior need to be told to all and if no one else will do it, I will.
By the way, insults are worthless. You don't know where to send them so address the issues and save your insults for the people you patrol.

Hey, 020 hater.
what's your deal, you get passed up for something or what. You sound like you carry your district. What do you do, that makes you so high and mighty. You have too much time on your hands, go out and do something constructive. No wonder no one wants to back you up and if you work so hard, what work do you do?
What's your claim to fame or do you just talk the talk? I never heard a guy talk so much shit and not back it up.

Who ever said I hated 020? I love 020. There are some great bosses here and some great PO's. It may not be as glamorous as other places but it isn't that bad. I don't think I ever said that I hate it here or that all the cops were bad. Maybe you should go back to school and learn a little thing that we like to call "reading comprehension".

What do I do that is so high and mighty? Well, for one, I work. Got you beat there, huh? Everyday. Sometimes 8 hours a day. I don't think that I ever said that I "carry the district" not did I ever hint at that. It's that damned reading comprehension again! I just pointed out several PO's who would glady fuck your mom if the chance arose, or would gladly leave you rotting in a ditch if you ever called for backup because they are afraid of what people might do who aren't white.

People do back me up because they know that I work. You should try it sometime.....it's good for the soul.

020 Hater,
You still haven't answered the question. Because you sometimes work 8 hours, that makes you a good cop? What do you do, how many arrests do make a day, it sounds like you have issues with your own soul. You need to show what makes you the spokes person for your district. No you did'nt hint that you carry the district, you insist you do. When is the last time you wrote a DUI, made a burglary arrest or jumped on someone's paper so you showed you did someting.

Don't hate,
reading comprehension.

I already told you why I consider myself a good cop: because I work. Just doing that beats out about 85% of the department. And if you don't believe that then there will be no convincing you of anything. I know that you cannot possibly believe that the majority of cops out there put in a full day. Just read the postings on any string on this website and you can see what people think of this job. To many it is just a place to come in, socialize and read magazines at the White Hen. But we always overlook this because there is no way to hold ANYONE accountable on this job. Cops know it and use it to their advantage.

I do not think that I am better than everyone else. Never said that. But isn't this a place where we can vent to others like us because sometimes our friends and family can't fully understand.

Just because I chose to do it all at once doesn't make me a hater. It makes me frustrated.

And yes, I do DUI's, I do make non narcotic felony arrests, write parkers and movers and curfews and answer all my calls and don't stay down on jobs.

All my criticisms are valid. Come to 020 and see for yourself.

Live in 020

PS I am loved and respected in my district and my peers. Pathetic? I don't think so.

5/12/2006 03:00:00 PM
Anonymous Anonymous said...

WOW, You do non narcotic felony arrests? Is that to be considered the holding the offender calls at the local grocery store, driving on a suspended license or the upgraded domestic? You by far should be the Officer of the Month for your outstanding contributions to the department and your district. Parkers, Movers and DUI's, "Oh My"! Your the Lion, Tinman and Scarecrow, all rolled into one. You should bid for a faster district, so that you may serve yourself and your peers that love you so. Better yet, you should go to the Tact team. Perhaps, the one you mentioned, if your such the working police that you write you are or take over that burglary car you seem to deserve so much or the desk you can't bid for because you have shit for time on the job. Tell us more about you and how hard you work.

I'm captivated by your stories and your honor. You, by far have shed light on your district and must be the only hard working female in the department. You do what your paid to do and you don't get any thing extra, you poor soul. But, your infallible. You don't give anyone else credit from your district, all you've done is talk about how good you are, except the Tact team you worship.
God bless you Live from 020 for setting the stories straight about yourself, stroke!
