Swipe In, Swipe Out?
Rumors abound about swiping. We were contacted by an officer who wished to remain anonymous who had been talking to someone down at HQ. Seems the swiping machines don't have any hardware attached. All they do is count the number of people who swipe in - the machine can't tell that Officer Smith swiped in and Officer Jones forgot to until 2 hours into his tour. It records nothing.
Seems the city doesn't want to pay for the software that would actually track people and generate A&A sheets. Or at least they don't want to pay full price. That, and they have to actually pay everyone for the time they stayed over and they'd have to cut out the early ducks. Who else can confirm or debunk this report?

Heard same rumor. Can't confirm but it stands to reason that now that the feds are looking into everything that the nitwits downtown who abused the fed money 8 years ago are now scrambling to make it look like they are doing something. Your swipe-in to no where.
This was the issue in 1998. Now I heard a rumor that a new contractor had software aka contract. Some of you may recall the first one went bankrupt around 96 shortly after they were installed. So lets think about this for awhile, have any of you actually seen a tech in or about the swipe machines? Surely if these machines are tied in somewhere they would have to be online. Were not talking about the time keepers office computer, they may be only in house. So if it's still true not all units are utilizing the time keeping software but still able to generate you forgot forms, this would give rise to the question. Are they operational? After all electronics have to be maintenced regularly and they do break down. I know some have been relocated to different parts of building walls, but so what.

Our FOP rep announced at roll call that the city is only using the machines to count the number of CPD members who's cards are active. At this time they're not using the info to track what time you came in or left. Then why don't they just let us swipe ONCE and then not swipe anymore?
Doesn't surprise me to hear that, once again, the city ducks, dodges and weaves while trotting out a dog- and-pony show to make it look like one thing is happening when something else could be happening but, in reality, nothing is happening. Huh?
Regardless, the swipebox-thing is not there to improve officer safety. It's there for some truly macabre and nefarious reason. The only thing being swiped are our benefits, our pension and our freedoms.

swiping:....it has no connection to payroll, so swiping has no effect on getting paid. The company that originally designed the system is out of business, so there's no way to evaluate/repair/evaluate the system...bottom line....it's a big joke...

I haven't been swiping all this time myself and look...I got a paycheck...i am not disciplined....don't you get it? it is all bull. every time i see someone swipe i laugh my balls off to myself. this swiping thing is hilarious. what was even funny the other day is to see some CONSCIENSIOUS PPO practicully knock down everyone to get to the swipe machine before he was declared LATE. was that funny I am serious i haven't swiped at all since this swipe thing started and neither have a few others i also know. we don't even sign the paper if you had a bad card. NO ONE HAS STATED WHAT THE REAL REASON IS. I work midnites and I have not swiped at all either. Someone told me that the Kronos machines don't work anyway. My point is I have not swiped in and I am still getting a paycheck and no spar of any kind. Sign me...SMARTER THEN THE AVERAGE BEAR...right BOO BOO?
we weren't sure what to do about swiping so we just swiped in the first week and then people forgot to swipe in and then now on may 3rd we still are not swiping up here on the west side, because it seemed like bunk. we still get paid and nobody stands watching you swipe so we dont swipe. no big deal but it is true that it seems like no one has got an answer why. it is ridiculous to say the least. whose big idea was this anyway? tru that, we checked in to that and the electricians told us at the district station that the kronos machines just tab a count of 1 for each registered swipe. that is it, so lets say on sunday there is a total of 400 swipes for the day....on monday...a total of 354 swipes total. and so on and so forth. no payroll connection at all just numerical counts. Why? go figure.

A detective who has twenty-five years on the job told us that there is not even a general order that is active on swiping. and if there is what is the big deal if it ain't connected to PAYROLL. For the last few days I have been swiping my card in the asscrack of the female working the front desk. It more fun than swiping the machine. The olny problem now is that I have dukie stains on my card!
When you swipe your card in the female's asscrack, does it register down in Payroll, or just upstairs in timekeeping? Just wondering.....

The information of when and where you swipe absolutely can be recalled, it is just not being used at this time. Finance CAN look up an individual officer and query a swipe history. It is true that the info, at this time, is not being used to pay people, but it CAN and IS being used to verify or debunk several CR #'s that I know about. Those who brag about not swiping yet, for the time being you may never hear about it, unless you get a beef and IAD/OPS looks into the swipe history. Then you'll have one more thing to lie to them about.
If your accounted for on the A&A's and via of your work activity for the tour. You would not be deemed a ghost payroller by the city or the Fed's that's for sure.

Are those CR# directly related to swiping? Question number two, what does the fax read that came down about swiping? To be on the safe side tie in the 98 G.O. with the most recent communication. What does the G.O. say in relation to punishment and procedures again how does it tie to latest communications. I don't not have order in front of me.
What I knew of the Kronos is it was not operational for years. I watched them install them in the beginning and have never seen anyone doing maintence on them since. They became non-operational shortly after they were installed.

The city is getting us use to swiping. Thats the reason were only swiping in and not out. They want us to get use to do it because in the near future we will be using a fingerprint machine to record A/A's. I heard the water department is using that machine now. Also, many other city agencies are using them as well. City colleges are have them installed for all employees. The company that is getting this contract is ORACLE. You heard it here first. Fingerprint scanning is the future for this department.
The index print is used at OEC, and tied into your their card and a print. this is not cheap equipment and it has it's problems. Another unit has partial print scan and it crashed knocking and locking people out. Again a good while before it was fixed.

I dont think there getting anyone use to it, because by the time they figure out any kinks your card won't work, why? because they would have initated a new program and failed to tell you.

F.Y.I. At the FOP office when waiting in the lobby there is a survey you can fill out to see what you think of swiping. and it asks the question, do you swipe every WORK DAY. the results so far are....NO---274 and YES---5 I am not surprised.

024 Tact & Gangs shouldnt have to swipe. We have two (2) tact secretaries to watch us and then we have a secret swipe machine behind the super duber locked doors.
You should just be happy that after we come in late take an hour and half lunch and leave 2 hours early we allow you to make our transports and take reports that we should be doing.
"Improved productivity....boost workforce performance on the fly".....well, I guess I should carry a kronos clock with me out into the field, so at the next shooting, and while the officers are doing everything else (victim's injuries, determining who the offender is, controlling the crowd, securing the scene, looking for witnesses and evidence), they (the officers) can run past me and swipe their cards in my portable kronos clock, an exercise which will undoubtedly improve morale and productivity immediately. Maybe we should all then face in the direction of city hall and bow our heads at the same time.....
Spoke to several 134 electricians who were working on the kronos in our unit and they said that the company did not go out of business they just no longer do business with the city and the reason we are swiping now is to make sure that our cards/id's are working. It does register somewhere downtown when/where you swipe but it is NOT for payroll purposes at this time. They are going replace these kronos with new hand readers (like the ones at homan square) starting this summer . The hand readers DO NOT READ OUR FINGERPRINTS only our hand sizes. They said it will probably take 3 -4 months to install these hand readers for every dept citywide. I'll believe it when I actually see or hear of them being installed.

Why swiping? You can thank John Daley's brother in-law. Ghost payrolling, and the fed is looking hard at the city anyway. More federal agents running around than ever before. Believe me the fed knows the P.D. is not on the up and up when it comes to work (like actually being at work). For about 90% of the people who work in patrol it doesn't mean anything, a few more minutes at the end of your tour. For many others it means a new way of life.
I for one am for swiping, as a taxpayer I am sick of seeing my hard earned money going to lazy do nothing cops. You get paid for 8, than be there for 8 and if you dont like it quit and join the private sector (even though you dummies couldnt hack it here). They had a problem with inspectors taking off early so they made them swipe in at district they were assigned to.. I remember seening then hang around in tact office waiting for 1500 to swipe out..if they weren't registering why would they do this?

I also recall working with the building inspectors in 013 years ago. If I recall correctly we also has Corp Counsel going out with us on some of these problem buildings. One of those from Corp Counsel was Kim Brown, former City permit boss disgraced for issuing permits to her boyfriend in exchange for trips to Brazil(?). She worked with the girl in neighborhood relations, who is the cousin of a guy I was an FTO for after my original partner left for the tact team where sometimes he did special employment for the film unit and once worked on a movie starring, you guessed it, Kevin Bacon! It is said that all dirtbag corrupt Chicago politicians and thier thieving cronies have six degrees of separation with Kevin Bacon.

Now those A/4 PSN, and Lil Lt. (PJ)from the A/4 gun team are in for it. No more abusing the federal $$, have to do a real 8 hrs now. PJ will have to work on sunday, which he hasn't in months. Now he's going to have to SWIPE something else beside the A/4 Lt's butt. Taste that !!!!

FOP, should know about city pullin CPD swipe records, which had to occur just recently. Since the machines were not operational for 8 yr's. If were talkin addl. punshiment/chrg's. there has to be a standard for punishment, as there should be for lesser transgressions, and reference K-malfunctions an CITY maintence records, oversights, etc. If FOP does not have an answer the question would be WHY NOT?

They started this a few years ago in the NYPD, The system is up and running at 1 police plz but not in all the station houses yet. the system was supposed to be tied into the payroll system like a time card. every ID card has a micro chip. you have to swipe your card and then place your finger on a scanner so it can read your finger print...and don't believe
for a sec that the darkside won't have access to the information so they can jam a guy up for coming in 5 minutes late for rollcall..
