Last night, 010th District. Copper was being dragged and ends up shooting the offender before being run over. Copper is going to be OK, but not the bad guy.

Maybe we should change our theme song from the bags and pipes or from the chants of recruits saying "Who are we? CPD!" as they run endlessly back to the same spot they started. The new chant in relation to the fine officers hitting their marks would be as follows: Some deep bass with the chant of "Boom! Here comes the boom! Here comes the boom!" and a final whisper of "How'd that work out for ya?" LMAO Way to go boys!

I remember growing up in the 70's. Seeing Chicago Police walking around with rifles and the leather jackets. That was enough to make me want to stay in line as a kid!

Sunday's St. Jude March

Guys in my unit have discussed the impact of a total boycott of Sunday's dog and pony show.

If Daley is seated front row center flanked by the Gilhooly and Rappaport families directly across from our "leadership", count us in.

None will attend. Why should we be a part of this hypocrisy?

What would happen if they scheduled their sanctimonious march and just the suckholes showed up? It sure would send one hell of a message.

Then on Monday, everybody shows up for the opening of the Gold Star Memorial Park.

Message sent; mission accomplished.

God bless all our fallen comrades!

Glad the officer is alive, but that broken ankle will never be the same. The west side has always been dangerous. Don't reach into a running car, that's patrol 101.

Go to the St. Jude Parade. Do you think Zum Furher Daley and the yes-men will respect us if we stay away.

Make it the biggest turnout ever, get in front of the TV cameras and say our piece. Make the politicians FEAR US!

The politicians, mostly Irish, will never fear us because they can always count on their Irish constituents to vote for them no matter how corrupt they are. At least you know exactly where that buffoon Bobby Rush stands. You can't say the same about Daley, the Madigans, Burke, Doherty, etc.

The 010 district officers are the working police. Crimes are commited and the officers do their duty. Turn on the news and see you will see in the first 10 minutes of reporting that an incident has happend in 010. So no one should critize the working police.

OFF TOPIC:

I was just rushing home from 26th & Cal, flying down Sacramento and not paying much attention. I had a near accident right by Manley H.S. A few blocks later, I was stopped at a light at Jackson. I looked over to my right and saw a white cross erected for Ofc. Michael Gordon. I think someone was trying to tell me something........

So, I reached over and clicked on my seat belt and took my time getting home.

Every once in a while, in between all the shit talking and rumors, we need to remind ourselves of what's important.

Make getting home to your families in one piece your #1 priority.

Be safe out there and God bless.

I wouldn't make a blanket statement about ALL the POs in 010 (they're real, they're dogs, they're cute) whatever.

But I will say that the north end of 010 is one of the worst areas left in the city, and God bless the guys who have to work it. Glad the PO is alive. And rather than "second-guess" the PO, why don't we rack this up as a lesson for those among us who might not have learned it before.

Every once in awhile, people could use a good lesson. Rather than "second-guess" the guy, or accuse those deriving a lesson from this as "monday morning quarterbacks", why don't we just take this as a lesson learned, or a lesson reinforced.

To 5/04/2006 09:53:09 AM,

Lighten-up Francis. Of course the officer was doing excellent police work-once agin. However, if I've seen it once I've seen it a hundred times, you got to be awful careful if the offenders car is running and you attempt to disable it. But we won!!!

5/04/2006 10:30:00 AM

Reaching into a running car is a bad tactic, and we need to be reminded of that every so often. I am reluctant to say that I have done it myself to grab the gearshift, and only by the grace of God never got hurt.

Don't let testosterone get in the way of common sense.

And I do know the officer, very well. He’s a good guy, one of vast majority of good cops in the 10th District. I hope he heals quickly and this reminder keeps someone else from getting hurt.

Do you really think the Gilhooly and Rappaport families will appear?

We like the idea of a Sunday boycott followed by a huge turnout at the Memorial Park the next day.

It's a WIN/WIN situation in which we can show the powers that be we will no longer tolerate their cowardice and lack of leadership.

Sunday: Boycott!

Monday: Huge tribute with thousands of uniformed officers.

Otherwise, they will continue to disrespect us and take us for granted just like they did with John Gilhooly and Frank Rappaport.

If you really wanted your voice heard, you should have organized a protest for the meeting at city hall. Boycotting St. Jude will accomplish nothing but disrespect to those Gold Star families in attnedance. St. Jude is for us-ask our brothers in other big cities if they have similair marches, and you will find the answer to be no. It is about fallen officers, not politics. How about a protest at Haithcocks officer, or on Monroe street. Boycotting St. Jude will accomplish nothing.

Why the hell would you show up at memorial park?? THE GILHOOLY FAMILY purchased a brick and nobody from the park bothered to help them out in this matter. It was extremely hurtful.

The memorial is supposed to honor our fallen, as well as our officers disabled from serving, about the families and their colleagues, and thanking those who currently serve. At least, that's what i was told by the person in charge of it: sgt mike murphy. I thought we were on the same page concerning both our memorials. In fact, we did a walk through discussing the memorial and future plans/projects. I was impressed.

I refuse to support the memorial if it's all about $$$$ and just a wall of names. They are just whoring what the memorial is all about.

The Cook County Peace Memorial actually stepped up to the plate to help us out with this Hampton issue. That's why plenty of suburb Police Chief's, Lawyers, etc. names were on it!! Stroger gave them hell about trying to get some land donated for their memorial. The only land he would eventually try to give them was around 26th and California.

The Cook County Peace Memorial is struggling to get donations so they can get their park built. But when the fallen needed their voices heard, THEY came out and helped us.

First. I was on the scene of the 10th dist P.O.'S Shooting. IT WAS NICE, CLEAN, and J U S T I F I E D!!! The P.O. was a young kid and it [the shooting] doesn't warrant any criticism. Although jagoff [the bad guy] did manage to drive a block and 1/2 before expiring [duke never fails to amaze]he was of course innocent (running over a cracker police officer is not a crime in the ghetto). Within minutes the native [no pun intended] residents were out in force proclaiming that again, the police "be shooting that poo boy fer nuttin!" They further expressed their stupidity by making idle threats like "we fittin' to shoot this place up like IRAN!". Iran? It's just too funny. The ignorance of the westside carnivore is truly a wonder. I wish, just for once, they'd [media] put something like that on the news. But no. Again we [the tax payers] will have to sit through more interviews of jaggoff's family, listening how DeShawuunnedre had just got his GED [in prison I'm sure] and he was supporting his 6 babies by working as a ....(insert random construction profession here) and was "fittin" to become a... (insert totally outrageous profession that requires a college dipolma here) before the police "assasinated" him. And of course never fear good ole' Rev Meeks will lead a vigil and demand the Brass conduct more training of how police officers should take more care in how we conduct our jobs so we don't maime, injure, or kill anymore "innocent" black men who are afraid of the bad ole white police officers [after all that is why the run from us because we are such racists murderers... errr wait.... us racists and murderers? nevermind...]

Second. St Judes is for the family of our fallen. I understand the politics involved, but as usual, Mayor McCheese will not be attending. So the message you will be sending out will only be received by the families that are gathered in that trailer on Chicago ave. I urge each and every one of you to attend, and stare into the faces of those children and widows and remember what we really are. WE ARE POLICEMEN. WE TAKE CARE OF OUR OWN AND THEIR FAMILIES FIRST AND FOREMOST!!! Screw all other politics. If you are really serious about sending a message then lets organize a rally, protest, etc at one of this summer's events. But again, if we do I'm sure only 100 P.O.s will show up because the other 9,900 of us won't care or will have something better to do.

Third. I'm a policeman, not a Rhodes scholar, so I can't spell and my grammer sucks. I know this, so there is no need to post my errors. I got on the job before a degree was required. If you don't like my spelling and or grammer you can kiss my school of hard knocks ass with you surburban, college educated, silverspoon fed lips!

Please BE SAFE!!

i really enjoy watching the news and hearing that the police could have shot him in a lower extremity rather than in the head. while there a some p.o.'s who can shoot at will to get a hit between the eyes, most cannot. they can connect on the center mass shots, but the head is a much smaller target. for anyone who believes that you can pick a spot on a bad guy's head while he is trying to shoot you or run you over, thats a good one. a trained military person...maybe. the average p.o., one can only hope. having been in the situation only once, i can say that i didn't lose. bad guy is permanently incapacitated and i went home to my family. regrets ??? only that i couldn't finish him, because the city paid him and his family a boatload of money. what a crock, if i would have been killed, my family would have gotten much less than what this mutt was given. 11 years in jail in a wheelchair would suck, but not as much as being dead. mama is rolling around the west side in my tax dollar paid for suv. so, to the liberal news assholes, if you believe that a police officer would jeopardize his or her future, home, etc. by murdering some mutt without fear for their own safety or another p.o.'s safety...you are crazy. glad the police are ok...or at least will be soon. to the bad guys...if you don't give the police a reason to shoot you, in all probability, they won't. if its bad guy go home or me and my partner go home... sorry bad guy. i have a family that depends on me to home and be there for anniversaries, birthdays, baseball games, graduations, and..well, you get the picture. i'm not gonna let some mutt with 6 baby mommas and spinners on his 79 caprice take me away from my family. be safe all good guys.

I woke up this morning with the shakes. Before I slugged down a little 12 year old scotch, I poured a little on my backyard patio cement for the poor victim of this tragic police shooting. I feel for this young man who may have gone on to become President of the United States, a doctor, a lawyer or even a Mayor of the Greatest Corrupt City in America!

The black man should be put on the World's Endagered Species list. Between cops, H.I.V. and their fellow brother man, they are being stomped out faster than Cubans who oppose Fidel Castro!

This is too heavy to think about so ealry in the day. And I still have a 1/4 bottle of scotch left. So on with the drinking boys.

Criticizing the officer's actions in reaching into a moving vehicle to shut it off may save another officer's life somewhere down the road. It's the deadguy's fault anyway you look at it, but that doesn't mean mistakes that others can learn from weren't made.

I'm very happy he is going to be OK, but don't try and tell me that was a smart move. He's god damn lucky that car didn't run over his head or the shithead didn't pull a gun a shoot him while he was holding the copper's arm.

Sorry if the truth hurts, but I'd hate to see someone else get hurt because no one can admit it when a mistake is made.

We all attend St Jude to show our respect for the officers who made the ultimate sacrifice. Please do not do anything to show disrespect or tarnish that.

Who the fuck are you?

While I have never met "Renee", I have personally responded to the scenes of four murdered police officers, both as a homicide dick and a patrol sergeant.

I don't like bullies. You are a bully! An anonymous bully at that.

Whatever this "Renee" is about, it is beyond dispute that she has contributed to honoring the memories of our fallen comrades, particularly John Gilhooly and Frank Rappaport.

It was her that initiated the petition against renaming the 2300 block of Monroe Street after Black Panther "Chairman" motherfucker.

Since when did St. Judes become something that is done for the mayor? St. Judes is for honoring the men and women who have given everything and that's forever. I don't care if the media or the mayor or the public are not there because it's not for them. As a matter of fact I don't like any of them and they aren't invited.

The idea of a boycott is rediculous. You're going to do something by not doing something? Boycott HaithCOCK. Boycott the mayor. Do not boycott the Gold Star families and the people who will never be able go. The mayor, the Bosses, HaithCOCK, they have hurt them to much already and I'm not turning my back on them.

I know someone who is going to be in that trailer and I am not going to explain to her that the reason I was not at the march was because I wanted to punish the cowardly CPD bosses who cared more about being a boss than risk losing their spot than do what's right.

Anytime we lose an Officer, it's OUR MEMORIAL. You must be a troll or a very ticked off brass sitting over at 35/Michigan to make such a clueless statement.

Of course I have nothing to do with the Chicago Police Memorial nor would I want to, considering their actions (or lack of).

When I went to the wake of Officer Eric Solorio, I saw plenty in attendance such as Commanders, etc. there that seemed to care. So is it all just about image, or the real deal? WILL YOU BE THERE FOR THE PEOPLE WHEN THEY REALLY NEED US, OR KICK THEM TO THE CURB?

With that said, I WILL be there this Sunday with a sign because I feel that our fallen need a voice. If anyone feels that I am disrespecting the fallen, they may come over and voice their opinion. I will be wearing a blue shirt, gray suit and near Chicago/State.

The CPD HQ really disrespected and spit on the graves of fallen officers as well as the officers disabled at the hands of the BPP. What a shame...

Hey 1:17 going to college doesn’t make me a silver spoon fed suburbanite. Some people that went to college actually busted their ass to get scholarships so they could go. Take it easy, it sounds like you have an inferiority complex about it. There’s still time to get one on the city’s dime. I’m not going to bust your balls about spelling, grammar, or if you made a point, etc. You made outstanding points throughout your post. It’s not our fault that the powers that be made the requirement 60 hours or a bachelor’s degree.

Having any type of degree doesn’t make you a better officer, I understand that. It’s a shame that the FTO program is so shitty because we really need experienced officers more than ever to teach PPO’s out of the academy.

The "comments" section on the petition contained some very good comments, but also some extremely inappropriate comments - just go through and read it. I was shocked that anyone would add them to the petition - all they do is make the petition meaningless. Additionally, I think that when you sign a petition below the signature and comments, you are essentially agreeing with all the comments. The comment section should have been left off, and in that case I don't think there would have been ANY exempt who DIDN'T sign it after looking at it. The original petition position was well written - but the comments (not all of them, but many of them, and I think there was a disparaging comment in the first 50 signors of the petition)were inappropriate, that section should NOT have been included in the petition.

He could have killed that officer and people are are his side? Plus a huge group of angry people coming out... the media showed oen person who had marks on his neck after police had to subdue him.

The officer did a great job. However, we see on the news all the family and friends speaking out how the police should have just wounded him, or just not shot his weapon but insted called for a time out. Like we could really just backup and re-think the situation. Now comes the city and Monique Bond issue her script statement as always. "The officer feared for his life, fired his weapon resulting in a fatal injury". How about better DAMAGE CONTROL. Let the public know, were not trained to shoot at vehicles. We dont have time to aim to injure. Show them the streaming video of the old caprice classic being shot up with every weapon possible, then being drivin away by an officer with 40 pounds of glass in his ass. Ok. Too much to ask for. How about a little more public awareness that you fight the police you loose. You pull a gun on the police you die. you roll up the window to your car pinning a police officer then driving away, your on your own and let the best man win. Thankfully this time the officer had the change to overcome the challenge.
As I see it, everytime somebody tries to defeat an arrest and is stopped by our Lawful and Justified use of force is our public awareness campaign. The messege is clear. This guy had an extensive arrest record. As recently as February, he assulted another police officer on a traffic stop. I guess he won't be doing that again!!

In response to an earlier post, The CPD Memorial Foundation explains what they do here:
http://www.cpdmemorial.org/

Sgt. Michael P. Murphy runs it and donations are from businesses. They have an outside salesman who goes out for them. They get HEAVY donations.

He also told me that he wants to do something for disabled officers. I think they should build a center for them on that park land, make it narrow and with 2, maybe 3 floors. Get computers/desks donated and put Pres. Giamabalvo (spelling?) in there as well (get programs rolling, how to cope with disability, volunteers, etc.).
Sgt. Murphy Office tel. number is 312-499-8899.

As for the petition, you cannot alter it right now until the petition is closed. Once it's done, certain comments will be deleted as well as first name only postings prior to printing.

Btw: please do not boycott the march this sunday. thank you.

No, Ms. Bond. There was Not alot of confusion! There were 100 animals trying to fuck-up the investigation, who needed to be dealt with. They were dealt with, and the investigation continued.

Her words on the news implied that the police did not know what happened. Who's side is this broad on? How many millions is this broad going to cost the city (or worse, the coppers involved)?

At least Camden did his usual speech, which was aired after hers.

The history of the St. Jude March must be understood. In the era before the FOP, when the Department and the political establishment could and did operate autonomously and arbitrarily, the St. Jude March was used as a yardstick to measure the control individual CO's had over their units. Pressure came from the top for perfect attendance. A luncheon, paid for by the St. Jude Society, was held shortly before the march for the exempts in order to underscore the importance of a strong showing. There were no valid excuses for not attending. In fact few did not attend. Roll call was taken at the event, and those absent were identified as not being company guys. Absence was viewed as a personal affront to the unit CO and resulted in retaliation. This co-opting of the families of the fallen came later as the establishment began to lose its grip.

The most interesting insight into the purpose of the event can be found in the manner in which the march itself was conducted. We used to march in the Loop to St. Peter's church for the memorial mass. Many of the marchers were actually interested in attending the mass. However, the commoners were not allowed to stay. We were marched passed the assembled exempts and dignitaries to the sounds of the Drum and Bugle Corps at the entrance to St. Peter's, down the center aisle, and out a side door into the alley. We were told to quickly and quietly disband while the big boys attended the service.

For some the march will always be viewed as the bosses' parade and reviled for that reason. Unfortunately, draping the event in the mantles of the fallen officers makes it harder for others to be critical.

Maybe we could spend more time on what has happened, what is happening, and what may happen as opposed to the name calling.

On the mark, there was considerable damage done during that time. It runs deeper, lack of insight across board representation and bad book keeping. Whether one agreed or disagreed with issue's during those days, the way it was handled was unprofessional and an insult to officer's who needed assistance and representation. I feel Ms. G was more about herself then about who she claimed to represent. Conduct I and others frown on. I don't like seeing copper's screwed over.

9:02... thanks. Sad to say, I didn't know much about this. It made me wonder why it didn't work out. Well, why is she still President? How does she get in that post as it is?

I think it's hard enough losing an officer or to be disabled than having certain people represent you that are doing it for themselves instead of what they're supposed to be doing. It creates more damage. And is very hurtful. But there should also be some type of "check & balance" system in order to protect others.

For instance, I have several assistants. Most are LE. They give me plenty of input and have taught me much over the years. When I first started the memorial, I made a few mistakes and they let me know it. LOL

The above is kinda a lame example, but ... I guess when you're dealing with funding, etc there should be someone else beside the President dealing with that matter and someone checking to make sure the books balance out, projects, programs, etc You know, make sure there is progress and things accomplished. Just my opinion.

Leo,
She set up the non-profit with a few other's and some I'm sure fell away. If it's your toy you run it as you choose. Non-profits and their boards if not done right can be non-effective. This does not mean they can't be run as you aready know. Her title her toy, I voiced my opinion long ago and I was familiar with all sides. There is a uphill battle with anything concerning disabled officer's. My theory it is not being done right, nor by the right people. Other's have tried and it turns into a fight, even among officer's who often look at disabled poorly, instead of supporting the officer period. Some day soon, I hope the rank and file will wake up and come together. Some things you can control and other's you cannot. Supporting fellow officer's is not something to be taken lightly and your true heart and determination needs to be in it. That goes for any cause involving officer's.

Let's be honest here, a good number of officer's go so they don't have to stand for inspection. A little trade off for showing numbers created by La Mgmt.

I support the true meaning of St Jude and feel the honor involved in the march for our fallen officer's and families is important. I also understand the other views on the politics of St Jude. The inspection demonstrates that point. Mgmt. still looks at the PO's that don't show for what ever reason as non-team members, that embarrass them by lowering their numbers. Non-showing has been used to present disrespect for your commander and mgmt. knows this. It was used as a measuring stick on the value of the boss. These days I doubt Headquarters gives a shit about sh#ty boss's.

Gee, let's see. How about, BECAUSE IT WAS THE BOSSES' PARADE.

St.Jude is part and parcel of the fake image of the police department that the exempts and their political masters need to project in order to keep their phoney-baloney jobs. You know, the most technologically advanced department in the world, the best trained department in the world, hell, even the best police department in the world. It's all a carefully arranged facade and when we march by the reviewing stand, we're just so much background. If they really respected us, they'd treat us better in life. Exclude the exempt dog and pony show and maybe the event would mean something.
