Quick Hits for Friday

Just a little something to post:
  • Bombs? Not really. Some enterprising youths brewed up a little home chemistry experiment and brought it to school. You can find recipes for "MacGyvers" all over the net if you know where to look. Most of them aren't "explosive" per se (no flames) but can be dangerous in the wrong hands (corrosives). We used to do them in high school chemistry classes.
  • The Burge report - will it be released? A hearing was held today to determine if it can or even should be. Channel 7 and Channel 2 cover it. We don't know enough about it to really have an opinion, but if the People's Law Office is involved, we're against them completely.
  • More heroin overdoses! We speculated a while back that this might be a concerted effort to kill junkies and we offered a bit of info we had gleaned that there might be an illegal fentanyl factory somewhere locally. We haven't seen anything for or against any scenario and the longer it goes on without an explanation ... hmm.
  • Big surprise - NOT! O'Hare concession contracts run out and - wonder of wonders - the City "forgets" to re-bid them. It turns out that 60% of the contracts at O'Hare are expired, meaning the holder of the contract can continue to pay the City under the old terms, even if profits have skyrocketed. And it seems all the people holding these contracts are politically connected (Joyce, Higginbottom, the list goes on). How many millions has THIS cost us?

I hope nothing comes from the Burge Report, but it should be intresting to see what names are named. There are plenty of bosses shaking in their boots right now!!

Actually there are no bosses shaking in their boots. Most of the coppers who have been slimed by guilty men and North Shore Sheeny hustlers were career detectives. The only big boss I've seen spend enough time in the "D" unit to become a good working detective was John Thomas. Two years in the detective division is about the time it takes to figure out what's up. Probably a little longer if you're in violent crimes. It takes longer still to become good at it(meaning convictions). Most people who have/had the juice to be a boss didn't hang around that long. They either got promoted or went off to narcotics or wherever. Detective was just a title they wanted. Some of those men tied up in that mess are friends of mine. A lot of those guys were dragged in as witnesses. Take your 5 minutes on the job and shove them up your smug ass. You don't have the balls to do the work those men did.

P.S.
Mr "1st & 16th" who posts here with his dog-ass world view can stick it up his ass too. Your nothing but link card shithead from Douglas Blvd.

If FOP is having a benefit, my question would be why does FOP pick and choose who they support? What type of message is that. A lot of cooper's get screwed and FOP does not step forward an offer any assist let alone a card. We already know their the first to become aware of an officer in distress. So yeah, what's up with that?

Heard that the same young 023rd district captin has a point system for his troops on his computer based on activity and looks up their score and denies time if coppers are not on his top ten list. With morale at an all time low he must plan on taking it lower! We should expect it, he has worked inside his whole career. I also heard if you have a late arrest he says good job and gives you an one extra minuet of OT!

On 23 time issue, if true what the heck is wrong wit the PO's?

First, (time stamp) your time due request. Then hand it in when returned wit a no, keep them. Second, on O.T. (time stamp) time due slip. If returned denied file a grievance. Or, is your spot sooo sacred your in fear of losing it? Now that I refuse to help you with, goof. Labor Law even if your not approved OT, if employer is aware your working and does not stop it your entitled to the pay. If your warranted O.T. late arrest, etc. and denied grieve it. What's the problem here?

When dept. started playing games with comp and other days, I went into (time stamp) mode. I also ask for the sup. to sign denied. Smile, it makes them crazy and that's the best part. Natch, they refuse but their beet red faces make me feel all warm and fuzzy inside }:()

I agree if district becomes a sh#t place to work regardless of watch. If ya can bid out. Enough bidder's and the city will be further confused.

Yeah, but when everybody bids out and the City takes notice, what will they do? They will promote the clown. Look at C. White and some of those other southside goofs.

There is no grievance for refused time due.

You're just talking shit. In one part of your post you advise to file a grievance for refused time due, then give an example of how YOU tell the supervisor to sign the slip if it's denied.

Funny thing is, you don't talk about all the grievances you've since filed with those supervisor signed refused time due slips-'cause you haven't.

Are you missing your eyeware or what? I said file a grievance if your denied Overtime, you know O.T. I said if your denied time due save the slips. I'm chuckling now since you made a goof of yourself. You must be out of touch.

White is where she's at for an inside reason and a deal. We have no control over who they promote. If your not happy where your at and you can move then consider it. You can always go back later. The dept. is ill right now and currently there's no cure.

Be careful trying to argue about being denied time due when you continued to work past your quitting time w/o W/C permission. You cannot approve your own timedue and if you file a grievance on the issue because a W/C refused to honor your unapproved timedue (doesn't matter if its a homicide), you can be sparred or even suspended for failure to obey whether written or oral. You're expected to leave the premises at the conclusion of your shift unless working "approved" overtime. FLSA requires that you be paid for all OT worked but the Dept has the right to limit that to approved OT. Hence the conundrum - if you work over w/o permission then you are violating dept regs (for which you can be disciplined) and if the Dept. refuses to pay you for the unauthorized OT then it can be charged with violating the FLSA. Question is do you want to take a suspension day or more for 2 hours OT at the end of your shift?

You decide if its worth it.

time due = O/T in the above post.

Without a doubt you notify first and seek approval. I have seen boss's give the approval for a late arrest, etc. then when it comes down to the wire, after time is put in; they try to back out of the slip. I know it's a double edge sword with Labor and O.T.

Goes without saying I have seen alot on this job.

I stand corrected. I missed when you changed from time due to OT.

But you also said:

And how many greivances have you filed based on the above?

Time stamping and making copies is what is related. I'm not alone in this practice. You know FOP denies time due grievances based on contract. Labor Law then comes into play. If games are being played they need to cease and any tool utilized that may assist in protecting yourself is viable. Hence, time clock stamp and copies along with asking sup. to sign denied. City wide I ask, what can this hurt? Mgmt. wouldn't like it because it appears to make them accountable. Now to me that's a good thing, dont you think? If they refuse you make a notation on the slip. Further I don't like the way FOP did a cut off on accepting denial slips. They should be keeping a running file, what is the basis FOP is using for not accepting copies currently? Court cases have plenty of room for discovery I thought. Maybe you can answer that question as well?

What basis does mgmt. use to deny you and other's time due? Manpower would be the answer, and or no valid reason. Let me ask you, how many get OT because another asked for time. In my entire career, I have yet to see this in regard to CU. If it is happening then it has to be a very select few getting the option to work the OT. That would be a whole different issue in regards to seniority, and possible violation. I don't trust the city one bit with my time or money, due you?

If new lanuage between the lodge and city is to be entered in the next contract we have to be very careful in relation to this subject. For anyone interested in the time due battle. Go to this website:

www.fop.org

on the right side top of pg. you will see (May) click on it, scroll down to (Time Due On Demand) and read the potential arguments.

FOP doesn't throw the benefit, but it does let it's members use the hall for a benefit that the member(s) throw for someone else. It's the FOP NOT being judgmental, the opposite of picking and choosing their favorites to support.

What a tool you are. Or asshat?
