IDOT Hero

One of many heroes the other night keeping a copper from burning to death. A riveting account of how he helped State Troopers and others keep the flames at bay until CFD got there to extract a pinned in cop.

Again, we can't thank this guy enough. Or the Troopers. We've always made it a point to stop on the shoulder for Troopers if we happened see them, just to make sure everything was OK. We're thinking they ought to be getting a few "thank yous" when you see them in the stations.

Don't know if anyone has anything bad to say about the IDOT Minuteman, but I've always had nothing but good to say about them.

They helped me once on the Ryan when I was younger and driving a used lemon. I know they've lost at least one of their own on the job on the Ryan, which by itself makes their job statistically more deadly than that of a PO (ain't many Minutemen).

If the CPD ever authorized a 10-1 protocol for any other occupation besides police and fire, I'd suggest that IDOT Minutemen should be the first occupation on the list.

But, again, don't know if anyone has a bad word to say about them as individuals or as a group. I hope nobody has anything bad to say, especially after the other night.

Should Karl pick up where police leave off?

BY ROBERT FEDER - SUN-TIMES - May 9, 2006

Is it proper for a journalist to work for a police department and report on police investigations for a local television station at the same time?

That's the ethical question raised by a new arrangement between veteran investigative reporter Peter Karl and WMAQ-Channel 5. Starting May 17, Karl will profile unsolved local murder cases for the NBC-owned station's 10 p.m. and morning newscasts.

Karl, who left Channel 5 after nine years in 1991 to focus full-time on his independent production company, makes $468,000 a year to produce and host a biweekly crime prevention series for the Chicago Police Department. "CrimeWatch" airs at various times on Channel 5, WCPX-Channel 38 and on Chicago's city-owned Municipal Television cable channel.

Karl Productions also has been paid $100,000 to produce a series of training videos for the police department on ways to respect cultural and religious differences.

Frank Whittaker, vice president of news at Channel 5, said Karl will conduct interviews and get access to information about unsolved murder cases, but production of the stories -- including writing and editing -- will be handled by the station.

"We fully plan to disclose Peter's credentials as an expert in the field, including the show he produces for the city," Whittaker said. "We have discussed at length, internally and with Peter, the need to make clear his role as an expert in bringing these stories to us. With proper disclosure, I think the stories that Peter will focus on will be of interest and service to our community and our viewers."

Karl, who's won more than 50 local and national awards for his investigative reporting work and was inducted last week in the Chicago Television Academy's prestigious Silver Circle, said he would "walk away" if a perceived conflict of interest ever became an issue.

"I'm not going to do anything that would harm my reputation or compromise my journalistic integrity," Karl said.

"My job is simply to lay out the facts as we know them. Whether they're favorable [to the police] or not, I'm not going to shy away from anything. If we can help solve some of these cases, then everybody is better served."

IDOT was always okay with us. Still are. Now, off post is anyone still swiping? I asked around and it seems very few people are swiping. It's seems that people are forgetting too and just figure, forget about it. I only swiped in once this week myself. Seems like this swiping is petering out.

Thanks to the ISP and IDOT. Their departments equip their vehicles with proper equipment, such as the fire extingisher that was used to save the LIFE of a fellow police officer.

I can assure all, particularly homicide detectives, that the integrity, credibility and reputation of both Peter Karl and I is above reproach.

Indeed, both of us received SILVER awards.

C.A.P.S. works!

EXAMSCAM and the job are legit!

More Kool-Aid, anyone?

Had a flat in the squad car on the Ryan at 3 in the morning. Called for a Minuteman and he was there in five minutes. Towed the squad to the area without a problem. Those guys are great.

Peter Karl came about during entry of CAPS 1992-4. Arrogont Connected NimRod. City used him to project caps via of marketing, somehow he was the only individual via of community and police that the caps videos could go through. City determined who he would use in early start videos. He grew mass profits from this start up.

Ask Northside about Peter Karl.
After he exposed the rigged orals on Channel 5, he sold out to the city and left John out to dry.

A real piece of work and rotten to the core.

Peter Karl is a corrupt piece of shit that betrayed over 600 police sergeants for a lucrative city contract. He left the point man Northside out in the cold for Martin and Daley to fuck over for blowing the whistle on the rigged lts. exam.

On Karl and CAPS, if I recall right when caps was setting up, I think it was B. McDonald that was placed as a civilian Director in charge per Da Mayor. working along her was C. Ramsey as Mgr. and Karl rolled in. Various alderas#'s from the 5 proto/pilot district's and their org's. Then came the paid civilian caps admins. in the districts who were connected, who then started dictating to the police which did not go over well. Then more caps training at the academy. Also connected civilians were trained at FBI academy. Yep, some civilians never used after training what a joke. Big Federal Grant. Later there were PO's. that were hired under another related grant aka COPS with a portion of their pay coming out of the grant. This dried up misuse, etc. You may already be aware that grant titles change regularly to keep money flowing. Various prgrms pop up to follow grant guidelines. Example you have a title with off duty po's. and then fed. monies run dry under FED budgets, you have to recapture the monies under a new title. Caps monies were run under different lines in the city budget to hide monies. There's too much sh*t to go in further detail but alot of it none the less. Great scam for Pols and friends! Funny part, city stole the CAPS idea from CANS out of New York after getting ideas, city then dismissed the NY people and rewrote the program. Together We Can, Chicago Alternative Policing Strategy aka CAPS. Should have been the word Politics instead of Policing. Also the re-resurrection of cadet program was desired by Ramsey. The city ran him in circles. The prgrm. then happened to bloom after he left. City is not creative they steal ideas and kill the creators.
