Yes, there are a few traffic cars that float around Lake Shore Drive and the Skyway. But they are few and far between and have something like 2 working radar guns that are 20 years old that only work on alternate weekdays and probably leak radiation like Chernobyl. Mover books are used mostly to justify probable cause for other things. TSSS and other paperwork only serves to discourage traffic stops and Traffic Cameras are taking away other enforcement opportunities. DUI's are a specialty and so many other violations are now parkers rather than movers so as to cut down on court time and appeals. There is NO REASON why the Chicago Police Dept. does NOT have radars in district patrol cars....It would make common sense if they put them in right???? Can you imagine the revenue they could generate?? Millions of dollars!!! I am miffed at why we don't have them in at least 5 cars per district...that would be just 75 cars with radars and the revenus they produce could pay for them in a week and then they could pay for more or for the cameras in the cars....but like I said that would all make sense right??

Why is the northside slower Could it be that those of us who work there have made sure that it doesn't turn to shit. That we spent time cleaning up the area. I've driven through the southside numerous times, and can honestly say its a complete shithole!
I especially love the wafting shit scent one experiences as they cross the Central avenue bridge over the sanitary canal. How anyone could live with that is beyond me.
Now as far as jet fuel goes, here on the northwest side the planes fly high enough over the residential area that its not a problem. You see, they didn't put the houses right next to the airport like at Midway.
And as far as home values go, the best southside homes can't compare in value to the shittiest that Edison/Norwood Park has to offer. I'll even go out on a limb and say that an empty buildable lot on either East or West Circle is worth more than 95% of the homes on the southside.
So while your southside house has doubled in value, if you were to sell it, you still couldn't afford to live on the northwest side. Not that it matters, as I'm sure you would never leave the dump you call home.
How is that cops think they can park illegally and not be ticketed by the traffic aides? Simple solution - park legally. Just because we have a badge doesn't mean we are above getting parking tickets. "Didn't they see my medallion?" Complete ignorance. The copper in 018 deserves everything he's going to get.

In regards to the topic of this post, the Traffic Section obtained 15 new radars last year. Two of those were mounted on the motorcycles for enforcement on LSD. 10 new laser guns were purchased 3 years ago. The unit has more equipment than manpower. I believe the budget calls for 54 police officers. At the present time there are only 18 PO's assigned to enforcement on the 3 watches. With days-off, medical, time-due, furlos, you might have 3 PO's working any given watch to patrol the Skyway and LSD. Several years ago the Department transferred 10 PO's from the Public Vehicle unit out of Major accidents into the Enforcement Unit to bolster the manpower shortage. That brought the numbers up from 18 to 28. Still half the the budgeted number, and they only write taxi violations. So when the bordering districts keep getting assigned to accidents on LSD and the Skyway because there are no traffic cars, that is the reason. They don't replace the retirees when they leave.

Of course there's no commitment to traffic enforcement, aside from the undermaned traffic unit and an occasional dui mission.....because, all Daley and Cline care about are murders and shootings. For anyone who goes to or knows about the DOC meetings, when is the last time anybody talked or asked about traffic enforcement? Wouldn't it be interesting if the dept. published actual, honest, personnel numbers as to how many people are in each and every unit, and what they actually do (no b.s.)....

Being that the bridge is north of I-55 some would consider it the west side. Also I live about 10 miles from there so the smell isnt an issue. As far as shithole goes you have not a clue as to what you are talking about. So use your whole paycheck just to make the mortgage and keep telling yourself you live in paradise....

The copper you are referring to is the foot guy for the area his car was parked in,the foot guys take their cars to their foot posts, always have, so do the traffic control aides and the meter maids, the meter maids put m & m wrappers in their windshields so the other meter maids and police know they are meter maids and working, traffc control aides put a used ticket book or a city of chicago traffic vest in their windshield, so don't go busting on the foot guy, they all do it, the tfa who wrote him was just a police hating bitch who could care less about the fop sticker or medallion on his car, but you should see how they go off when they get written,they can't have it both ways. I love my job and have 7+ years on and work on a beat that’s always in the doc. I am so overloaded with nonsense paperwork it leaves hardly anytime to do any type of real police work. I guess I could call in bull shit traffic stops and hide in the bush's to get a nickel bag arrest, or every time the dispatcher calls me I could say "squad I have 3 on the hood". But that just screws everyone else in my sector because then they get stuck with my job's. Here are some ideas to free up time:
A. Change the format for nonsense paper jobs to something like a small contact card. Just the basics for no offender information paper jobs.
B. No one ever has a license, so instead of dragging their sorry asses into the station for a long drawn out process of a TVB, let the beat car I-bond them right on the street.
C. Get ride of all this nonsense smoke and mirrors DOC humper’s and foot patrol humper’s, etc , etc. The only one who thinks these things are legit are the caps offices
D. Stop with all the dispersal nonsense. Hello BOSSES! Its all made up! When is the last time you heard a car get an RD for this type of arrest? And shame on the guys who think they are doing the bosses a favor by getting these. Now its going to be just like the curfews. You have gang cars down on this shit instead of doing real police work because the boss needs the numbers to be the same as last year.
You are correct about Austin. He keeps a running list of all the cops he's ever stopped so that he doesn't have to give them a second break.
He also has a list of cops who he doesn't like so that he can write them too.

The thing about traffic writing is the fact that judges make class b 6-101's petty offenses (which is what they were, but are not anymore).

6-101 (no license) is a fucking class B Misd. (up to 180 days in the clink, up to 1500 fine)- shitheels come in- no lawyer, 100 bucks in fine (which they will never pay) and out the god damn door. Which fills their abstract with jbfx's when they get pulled over next week because they never paid the fine in the first place. So they get charged with a 6-303 where, surprise, surprise, they need no lawyer downtown. What a friggin joke
What should happen is seizure of cars and the City should sell them at auction. Not take 100 bucks to send them down to Nashville or wherever the hell they go.

What if I felt I needed to draw a weapon to get them to stop, since nothing I said to them made any difference?
The entire event would be all over the media the next day, and I would be fired the day after that. Fired for being an unprofessional, racist cop.

I'm surrounded by coppers and fireman (probably 90% coppers and fireman). This is the best "bang for the buck" in the city. I paid $350k 2 years ago, have a 45x165 lot with huge yard, brick 4bdrms, att garage, 3100 sq ft, the works!. No shitheads, NOT ONE! Every homeowners keeps their home perfect. Nice and quiet. Only problem is that it is difficult to find a home here before it sells quickly "by owner". If you were born and raised on the North side... then maybe you would want to live there to be close to your family and friends.... other wise .. no way... it's way over priced.
