Aldercreature Revolt?

Seems the City Council is sensing the sweet sunlight of freedom peeking through the dark shadow that is the Daley Machine. And they seem to be liking it. They are openly defying Daley on a number of issues and it's amusing to see.

Unfortunately, none of them seems to be blessed in the brains department (they're Chicago aldercreatures for pete's sake and democrats to boot) and the things that they are running counter to Daley are either unimportant or economic suicide. For instance:
  • The entire "foie gras" incident. Why a major metropolitan city council would even spend a moment debating whether people with too much money should spend it at ten restaurants that serve goose liver is beyond us.
  • Monday, Ed Burke wants to ban cooking with trans fats at Chicago restaurants. What in the hell is he thinking? We bleed convention business, are billions short in pension obligations and Eddie wants to stop people from spending money?
  • The City Council demands the mayor hire more cops and the mayor essentially says "Screw you." This has yet to play out. Can the Legislative Branch force the Executive to bend to their will, which is essentially the will of the people? This could be interesting shortly.
  • And now, the mayor is trying to get aldercreatures to back off of a number ordinances that will make it difficult for Wal-Mart to open a couple big box stores in town. These include "living wage" and benefits packages.
This is hilarious. And great theater. The aldercreatures don't have a brain among themselves in regard to economic realities and are slowing killing this city on the national stage.
  • Mandating "living wages" will keep Wal Mart out of the city. But city residents are still going to go work there - there goes the City's "head tax" they so dearly love.
  • Wal-Mart, for all it's alleged faults, supplies things that people want and want at a price they are willing to pay - there goes the City's sales taxes.
  • City stores will be driven out of business as the people flock to the surrounding suburbs that are happy to have Wal-Mart there - goodbye to even more head taxes and sales taxes - the death spiral tightens
  • Here's the best part - the aldercreatures are beholden to the unions who are demanding Wal-Mart submit to their will and their insane economic shackles. Wal-Mart probably won't. So the unions contribute to driving more union people out of jobs as businesses shut and support services disappear.
And if you really want a laugh, the City is declining to enforce immigration statutes, becoming a "sanctuary city" of sorts. More illegals show up and the illegal job seekers increase. Illegals are doing jobs at lower wages, further damaging and eroding the unions membership. Illegals don't have a lot of money, working these lower paying jobs, where are they going to shop? Wal-Mart!

God help us, we love this stuff.

How about a "living wage and benefits package" for city employees?

We used to have great medical benefits but we got conned into paying $2.00 a paycheck for what was part of our compensation package. Now the city goes to the insurance companies and demands that they create special low end plans that make welfare look better.

Meanwhile, I wonder what the mayor and alderman get as medical, and retirement plans.

You Sir, Are What's commonly referred to as a Hand Job! Chicago is the only place in the country to live? Broaden your horizons for God's sake and maybe travel a little. If you love it here you are certainly entitled to your opinion and I do agree that our city has some high points. That being said there are many areas large and small that trump the experience of living in one of the most dangerous and corrupt cities in the country. While that poster is having fun watching his grass grow, I hope you have fun standing around in your snowmobile suit in 0 degree weather at your $100 bears parking spot grilling Brat's with every other Pollock in the city.

Dear fellow citizen in the Democratic People's Republic of Chicago, we want you to know that only the interests of the state matter. Please report to your places of employment and continue to work for your inferior pay and benefits.

Life in the middle of nowhere? Like where? Wilmette, Park Ridge, Huntley? You're a jealous chump living in a city that is thirty percent white, and dying. Five thousand towel heads moving back to live in the shadows of the projects are a drop in the bucket compared to the families fleeing an all black school system. Yuppies near Taylor and Western you say? Look at them closely. Living amongst the most dangerous creatures in 011 might seem easier than living with the Taliban, or malaria back in their native village. They can have it. Chicago will have all-white enclaves near the lake and those who remain will be taxed out of existence to support the shit in the remainder of the city. So go ahead, make the sheenys rich buying the those Bears tickets! And bring two guns if you're going to walk with your family to Sox Park since the affirmative action police department can't do anything to help you should you encounter a bat wielding psychopath en route to your seats!

Lived my entire life in the city, willing to pay my taxes, earned enough to pay them due to building my own (very successful) business in the private sector. Not a disappointed, disillusioned, public employee who regrets his career choices. Took the risks that I (you) needed to take to live in an extraordinary building with security, views, educated successful neighbors and access to a beautiful city with plenty of activities any night of the week. Where do you guys get your facts? Are they for attribution or is this knowledge imbued in you at birth? What is with the shoe shine box thing? It's from a twenty year old movie. It's trite. It's banal. It's pathetically old. Below is some information taken from the 2000 US Census. Try to digest it without bursting a blood vessel.

After a population decline since the 1950s, the population of Chicago increased from 2,783,726 in 1990 to 2,896,016 in 2000. According to the 2000 census, whites constitute 42 percent of the city's population; blacks, 36.8 percent; Asians, 4.3 percent; Native Americans, 0.4 percent; and Native Hawaiians and other Pacific Islanders, 0.1 percent. People of mixed heritage or not reporting ethnicity were 16.5 percent of inhabitants. Hispanics, who may be of any race, represent 26 percent of the city's population. Chicago is the center of a large metropolitan area spreading across three states, from Kenosha, Wisconsin, in the north to Gary, Indiana, in the southeast. The population of the consolidated metropolitan statistical area increased from 8,115,000 in 1980 to 8,240,000 in 1990. It reached 9,157,500 in 2000. The percentage of minorities is lower in the metropolitan area than in the city. Blacks account for only about one in five in the metropolitan region as a whole, and Hispanics represent approximately one in nine residents. While the proportion of Hispanics is growing in the metropolitan area, black presence has remained mostly unchanged.

Do you think we care? Animals are here for three purposes - food, clothing and entertainment. That's it. Sometimes they can be all three at once, like when we go hunting for Bambi. Sometimes we like to go see those bears that ride the bicycles in the circus. And if someone made them into tasty bear-burgers later and we got a nifty hat like the Queen's Guard has, we'd be even happier. Who cares how they made foie gras - that wasn't the point of the post. The point was aldercreatures deciding how and what the market will provide. Attempting to control the what should be unfettered. Let the market decide.

Foie gras is the bloated and diseased liver of a duck or goose that is sold as a gourmet food item. As many as three times per day, ducks and geese on foie gras farms have metal pipes rammed down their throats while huge amounts of food are forced into their stomachs.

And yet, time and time again, attempts to unionize at WalMart fail. Why is that? Because people who work there might actually be happy there??

::gasp!:: Oh my god! Let's unionize! People are happy! This cannot stand!

Go look at the employee surveys. Go look at how every single manager there started out as a greeter. Go look at how WalMart already offers health care for its full time workers. And stop relying on these loaded and biased leftist surveys that only take into account part timers not getting health care (show us a part time gig that does) and go find out why WalMart is a pioneer in a global economy.

Sure, unions were great in the days when workers had no rights and worked 12 hours for straight time and had no health care. But they've become ossified dinosaurs and free money machines for democrats and other leftist causes. Did you know unions contributed around $20 MILLION to Republicans over the past 5 years? Twenty MILLION dollars. To the democrats over the same time frame? $229 BILLION. That is not a misprint. Two hundred twenty nine BILLION dollars. That is a difference of something like 4 orders of magnitude. And that doesn't reflect the opinions of union members, 40% of whom identify themselves as conservative or right leaning. Put that in your union pipe and smoke it.

And as so many visitors point out, we don't belong to a union, we are a fraternal order. We lack the power to strike, so we pretend that we come to agreements with the mayor when in reality he could tell us to go pound sand every time we came to the table and force us to arbitration. Unions refused to change with the times and so have doomed themselves and their workers to obsolesence. Union rules are killing convention business here in town. It takes 5 or 6 unions two days to put up a remote police cameras when a private contractor was putting up 5 a day. GM keeps an entire workforce on standby, paying them to drink coffee every for a year at a time due to antiquated rules. The mayor can't even fire incompetent teachers anymore without the union screaming. And just TRY to test a teacher to see if they know the material the are supposed to instruct our children on. Don't blindly tell us that unions are a good thing for everyone all the time anymore. More often than not, they aren't.

Again, do you think we care? Let's spell it out for you - w.e. d.o.n't. And if there are people with money to throw away on nonsense such as diseased goose livers, hooray for them. Have you ever seen how cows and pigs are slaughtered? We have. Doesn't make us dislike a nice steak or burger or a big hunk of ham or a side of bacon.

ONCE AGAIN, our point isn't how or why goose liver is made into paste (tasty or not, we don't know, we choose not to indulge). Our point is aldrecreatures attempting to nanny state us constantly into what is good and proper for the citizens. Leave those decisions to us. Stay the hell out of our homes, our refrigerators, out bedrooms and our cable TV menus. We decide what is good for us. We decide what our children should be exposed to. We decide - it's the American way.

You obviously were not on this job prior to the advent of the FOP. I was and we were owned by City Hall and at the mercy of the divine right ruler sitting on the fifth floor. The greatest change was the codification of police officers' rights. Yet, this seems to be unknown and ignored by most officers. If you are unhappy with the current administration of the FOP, an apparatus exists for change. Vote the rascals out of office. Naturally, the change will involve time and effort. Instead of using this blog for sophomoric commentary and feeble attempts at humor, let it become one of the instruments of change. Don’t denigrate history lessons. The stuff that happened before put us where we are today. Understanding the past will help navigate the present and the future. If you don’t like the current situation, you definitely won’t like a return to the pre-FOP days.

Response:

50 y/o, white, married (one time) with four kids, self-made millionaire who has traveled the world and continues to. Absolutely not envious of this former police who needs to take his Prozac.
Pleased to live where I do.

We back our facts up with research, Go look in our last July Archives around the 25th or so. We link to the story about the discrepancy in union contributions among the political parties. We forget that you leftists never let a bunch of facts get in the way of a valid point. You just put your fingers in your ears and scream "la la la la" so you don't have to hear facts. It's amusing when you're 2 and annoying when you're a teenager. It's very sad when you're of voting age and think you're actually making a point.

As to the difference between Unions and Fraternal Orders, it is huge. Unions were (and are) able to bring management to the bargaining table with the threat of work slowdowns or stopages. Management counters with scabs, relocating factories and lockouts. For a time, it balanced itself out.

As many are fond of pointing out, we are a Fraternal Order. We are restricted by local, state and federal law from striking. Even advocating a ticket slowdown or a "blue flu" is grounds for charges and immediate dismissal from the force. So what is our club to bring management to the table?

Here's a hint - there isn't one.

The only reason we got a "union" is because the Machine was reeling at old man Daley's death and Byrne liked the police. We got the best contract in history under Jane. But don't kid yourself that we dragged the City to the table and forced a union on them. We had no threat. We still have no threat.

As stated before, Daley and his people could refuse to meet with us for months and years (and have refused for months on end) whenever our contract comes up. We can't drag them to the table. All we can do is file for arbitration. Do you think the UAW would stand for all the "interpretation" on their contracts with the automakers that Daley's people do to us? Not a chance in hell - they'd stage wildcat strikes and drag GM and Ford back to the table. What do we do? File for arbitration again. And again. And again.

Your stating Wal-Mart pays "slave wages" is pure rhetoric and baseless. And bringing up the specter of child labor is laughable. Try making a cognizant argument based on fact and existing labor law. Sure, the unions forced a number of beneficial and overdue changes upon the business community. Years and years ago. But don't pretend that the demise of unions will bring back the bad old days. You sound ridiculous.

I've been everywhere man!(Johhny Cash) and one thing i can say for certain there is a black cloud hanging over the 25th district. They are the best and the busiest just ask 'em. Then ask how many of these superheroes have been south of Roosevelt(more like Division) You've never seen the 5th, 4th 0r 3rd districts so shut the f^#% up. Zone 10 is the busiest pure and simple, The west side ends @ the 15th district borders. Keep drinking the Kool-Aid and telling all the barflys how you're the working police...maybe they'll believe it because nobody on this job that's worked everywhere does. Oh by the way when people from outside "the fighting TWO FIVE" come in we love it how you look at us like we're IAD, to cool to wave just a hard cold stare! You guys are my heroes! What a bunch of TOOLS.

Yeah, right, we're advocating a complete disbandment of the FOP. Point that one out for us, would you? Geez, get a grip. Read what we wrote.

The point is?
Your inability to clearly state your position is not the fault of the audience.

You don't like Curry, Wahhh, Wahhh, Wahhhh!!!

Remember kid, he'll be your boss some day.

He learned how to play the game.
You didn't.

You made a part 1 felony arrest arrest every day, get all convictions, have lots of honorables, are the real police, etc., etc...don't have time to study for the test due to all the court, and the merit promotions are for suck asses and clout babies.....

Yep. And you know this, but keep busting your ass.

Don't worry, kid. In 20 years, you can tell the new guys stories about when you worked with ADS Curry in 025, and what a tool he was.

And by that time, his kid might be your sergeant.

Curry is a little late to be anybody's boss. Jiminy came on right in front of me, so he's pushing 14 or 15 years. Do you really think kissing up to the WC will get you made Sgt? 50 Sgt's in a class means 15 clout spots. Daley, Burke, Beavers, a few other aldercreatures, Cline, Starks, Grau, Williams get their picks. How many do you think are left over? Throw in maybe one legit one for a guy who jumped on a hand grenade and their ain't a lot left over when the big fish are done eating. Do you think Williams is going to give a pick to the 3rd watch WC in that shithole 025? You're a stupid fuck if you think a WC can get you a clout promotion. Whoever posted that stuff about all the handjobs giving you the look when you walk into 025 was right on. It takes a hard man to sit at Diversey/Central watching the Polish porn stars walking into Jedenka. Yup, they've seen it all & done it all.

Hey, What the hell is going on here. I never knew that I brewed so much animosity. You, as an anonymous poster, can say whatever you like. I lend no dignity to the posts because of the ANONYMOUS Opinions involved.
Anyone who would like to speak with me regarding anything, Please Feel Free to address me at work. I welcome it. Until I can put a face or name with an opinion, the remarks are just faceless rants and Bull Shit.
I have nothing but respect for Police Officers, but as I see it, real Police Officers would value their opinions enough to address them with the target. Everyone knows my opinion of them. I don't see the need to mask them on here, nor will I.
I work the early side of 3rd watch every day, DOG 6. Should there be a need to find me and tell me what a clout weilding, suckass, lazy jagoff pussy I am, just call for a meet. I would be happy to listen your opinion.
To all: Please stay safe.
