Suspect fleeing police kills himself

A suspected rapist died after shooting himself in the head as he was pursued by police attempting to arrest him for assaulting two women during an invasion-robbery at a River Forest residence, authorities said.
Fabian Patillo, 21, who was out of prison on parole on weapons and drug convictions, was initially taken in critical condition last night to Loyola University Medical Center in Maywood after shooting himself outside a residence in the 400 block of Home Avenue in near west suburban Oak Park.
The Cook County medical examiner's office reported this morning that Patillo, of the 800 block of North Keeler Avenue, later died and the hospital had harvested his organs.
Officers responded to a 911 call of a man with a gun shortly before 10 p.m. last night at a residence in the 7200 block of West Iowa Street in near west suburban River Forest, River Forest Police Deputy Chief Dan Dhooghe said.
The man entered the back yard holding the gun, approached five women and announced the robbery. He ordered them to take off their clothes and went through their purses, retrieving some of their belongings, Dhooghe said.
He then sexually assaulted two of the women, but fled on foot when one of the victims began fighting him off. After the women notified police, a description of the man was broadcast over police radio, which is shared by several neighboring towns, according to Dhooghe.
An officer from one of those towns spotted the man near an elevated train station in the 1100 block of North Boulevard in neighboring Oak Park.
The officer and several Oak Park police officers chased the man to Home Avenue, where the man pulled out a 9 mm handgun and shot himself in the head, Dhooghe said.
Police later recovered the gun and some of the victims' belongings, he said.
The women who were assaulted were taken to an area hospital where they were checked out for observation.
Patillo was on parole for aggravated unlawful use of a weapon and possession of a controlled substance, both felonies, according to the Illinois Department of Corrections Web site. He was sentenced to three years in prison for the weapon charge and two years for the drug charge.
Dhooghe would not confirm the identity of the man who shot himself, and representatives from Loyola were not immediately available for comment this morning. Oak Park police were also unavailable to comment about the crime.

Once again the quality of the present day PO on this job just fucking amazes me. Now I'm not gonna get into too much here but let us remind you the Sgt you are speaking sooooo highly of was/is a former IAD person. What the fuck does it take for you people to realize these former IAD people got where they are on your fellow PO's bones. I worked with, and, for FORGUE over the years and i can say if you are a worker he'll back you up. None of this was at IAD either.
As a sergeant he has gone after the dog asses and they have complained about it loudly and have made up lies about him. I will say though, he does not know how to speak to some people at times.

9:27, you are raising an excellent point. The only ones who care about the widescale criminality and corruption are the feds.
On that note, a long time ago it was pointed out to me that the easiest way to root out corruption in the field would have been to monitor or talk to the people in communications. Troubled tac teams in 015, 006 and other units were often the ones who would never answer up for jobs, nobody would know where they were, and no sergeants would answer to discuss.
It wouldn't have worked to weed out the ones who covered their tracks better, and how hard would it be to answer the radio and take narcotics jobs but continued doing what you were doing?
But in the very few districts, on the very few teams, where nobody ever seems to know where a particular team or a few officers are, IAD or any boss who cared could have just showed up for a second or third watch roll call and asked to meet a few POs (and now civilians) on busy zones and ask them who never seemed to answer up in tact.
It would have been that easy. Or, at least that was what I was told several times. But hell, their own commanders did not care. Why would their sergeants, or IAD for that matter? The whole city is corrupt, and their is no leadership.
and strangely, the last communications commander, including the period bridging 1121 to the OEMC, was Jerry Robinson himself. Of IAD fame. He never knew nothing and refused to pass ANY complaints onto the patrol division or IAD. Par for the course though, huh?

I worked and socialized off-duty with Nedrick "Rick" Miller when we were in Fillmore. Rick was a great street cop who single-handedly bailed my wretched ass out of a couple of 10-1's with the savages.
When the shit hit the fan in 011, Rick was regarded as a one-man wrecking crew.
After I made dick, we lost touch. I was saddened by his tragic downfall in 015.
No one can condone the crimes that resulted in Rick's conviction.
Forgue got shot at because he fucked up letting the bad guy ID his UC car.
