Police Shooting - Many Versions

If you want to read a bunch of different articles with a bunch of different takes on last night's shooting in the Dominick's store, read these links from Channel 2, Channel 5, Channel 7, Tribune and the Sun Times.

Channel 2 has the officers on scene, 2 inside 2 outside witnessing the theft of sunglasses. Channel 5 has a unknown number of officers responding to a "Robbery in Progress" and a gunfight breaking out. Channel 7 has 2 Officers approaching the subjects in line, arresting the woman and struggling with the man. The Trib has it as a "Theft in Progress" call and a confrontation outside. The Sun Times has Officers responding to a call, two of them go to a security office, two others remove the couple from a checkout line, a fight broke out, pepper was sprayed and the subject produced a gun and got himself killed.

At least it ended up bad guy dead, coppers unhurt and a good round table.

I just heard from 35th street that things for the district tact/gang teams are about to get worse! The are asking motor maintenance to start putting beat tag brackets in the unmarked squad cars which will go inside of the car by rear window ledge drivers side. Beat tags will be given to their tact Lt..Samething goes for tact/gangs get caught without beat tag you can get written up by anyone sgt. or higher same as the beat car.The reason is because district commanders are complaining they see unmarked squad cars in their districts and they know the officers in the cars don't belong to the district. Goes back to keeping district cars in their district and beat cars on their beat. I guess it's time to quit tact. The perk of eating anywhere in the city is gone and forget about checking out division street on friday and sat. This is suppose to start at the begining of period, done when you bring your car in for oil change.

Why not just mark unmarked cars. You might as well with beat tags and municipal plates.

Come on guys! like poeple don't know who we are anyway. Who cares if we have beat tags? this is so minor that it almost makes me laugh. I thought it would be something serious.

If you are a female officer just wear your hair down and lots of make up or perhaps a ponytail coming out of the back of a baseball cap. No one will ever guess you are 5-0 driving around in that unmarked car with municipal plates and a beat tag.

Don't forget a full size duty rig and a vest with your star and a name tag on the front. Only then is the outfit complete.

Perhaps a patch that says POLICE on the back of the vest cover. That would be totally covert.

This is totally stupid. If they see the cars then write down the plates and find out where they are assigned if there is an issue.

Better yet, get rid of the M-plates and other identifiers. If you want to start keeping track of people, just install GPS receivers/trackers the same way shipping/trucking companies do.

Chicago is like some sorta bizarro world where every step backwards is sold as an advance, and nobody says nothing when they end up copying someone else's successful model 10 years later than everyone else.

No wonder companies are still fleeing.

I had a beat tag made for me by a friend at MMD. The tag reads "S.C.C." and thats the one I am using in my unmarked vehicle.

1st of all there is nothing hotter than a female officer with a BB cap and a pony tail sticking through that little hole in that back of the cap that adjusts the hat size. I get a woody everytime I see that. I love BBcaps and ponytails!!!!!

So lay off those little sexy devils who do that, what are you a freaking HOMO?

The Tact and Gang teams are not "covert" or "undercover," so the ball busting does not apply, fellas.

Besides, everyone knows, or should know that Tact teams were created for coppers that were too dumb to be Detectives.

Now will expemt members' "cash bagmen" have these tags? Especially when they are picking up the "envelopes"?

After checking in to see the comments about the police shooting, I would be the first to give everybody the facts since I was there in the store, assisted in the investigation and stayed at Area 2 for the duration of the day. However, it seems some people are more concerned about MMD putting a beat tag holder inside a tac car. So I won't bore anybody with the undisputed facts of the incident. Go back to bitchin' about the beat tags and eating outside of your district. It's more important to you.

Sergeants list is out Wed!!! Bout freakin time. OOOOH YYEAH!!! Its a short list, those on it have already been notified. If you havent gotten the call, quit your whining when its your turn, it will be. Hopefully they tear the list down Right before your name. But that would be so wrong because you would be the "Best" sergeant ever. You are much too good to be just a blue shirt.

SCC, the comments here are downright disgusting. Instead of asking about the shooting and how the working police are that were involved and the MIS-information the media puts out, a bunch of IDIOTS are wasting this space talking about crap. Yet we complain that the "bosses" etc...don't care about us-here's a prime example-WE don't even care about us!
To anyone of my brothers or sisters in blue that were involved-Thank God none of "us" got hurt, nice job!

I'm reposting my comments from the 010 shooting, (14) blog-topics back to re-enforce my point [still the same]
When there's a police shooting the MOST IMPORTANT news is that the 'police' were not hurt. Kindly save the other BS comments for an appropriate site.
It's a common courtesy and a tribute to our 'Brotherhood.'

Now go bust my balls IF you [still] think that's the thing to do.

FROM 01 June.........

Who the hell keeps posting these bullshit comments, moreso the one about SCC identity? It seems like SCC is trying to do a good thing here, so why post the above?

Back to the shooting, the only thing that concerns me is if the officers are alright. Are they ok?It's that time of year, when the animals are out and about.
Watch yourselves out here...

To 8:28,
While I hear what you are saying, I don't see where you get off saying "TRU, SOS, SWAT, save your stories for the bar" as if those are the only people who comment on this blog. You should direct your message to everyone, because all different po's post here-I am also glad all po's are okay.

While I too am totally sick of the A2 gun team etc. stuff, I am almost entirely opposed to replacing it with a substantive discussion of a police shooting.

Seriously, do NOT put a POs name or beat tag on a public blog. Do NOT characterize details of such a shooting in any way that has not already been done by Pat Camden.

Why? Any release of information that has not hit the media can ONLY be used by a lawyer or reverend to hang a copper. It can only be used as an avenue to investigate for a lawyer or a reverend.

Please just consider this a gentle request for civility here, and hopefully we keep people out of trouble.

About the only exception I would make is if the brass turns on a PO and you have an exculpatory story. Other than that, satisfying someone's curiosity with details can only be used against us/you/me.

And yes, I am glad the POs are okay too.

Why work an unmarked car. More good police work is done when you are in uniform in a marked. "Will" knows that the blue shirts aren't going to do any police work. They do their thing right in front of the uniformed guys. Beat cars were always great for surveillances. Anyone from back when agree?

I remember back in the '70's, riding around Englewood, two white guys in a Dodge Monaco...3-year old kids running to the curb to yell, "Hi, po-leese!" Yeah, Tac has always been real covert!

Were you at the scene? Have you seen a video? Police unhurt, bad guy dead that is all you need to know. Calling officers cowards as some officers are doing in the 003rd District is uncalled for. You were not there. All the second guessing from 35th Street and Area 2 does not help. We won, bad guy lost.

6/06/2006 08:48:00 PM
Anonymous Anonymous said...

It is not about calling people cowards. The fact of the matter is that everyone responds to a high pressure situation differently. Some people will run when they see a gun because of their instincts. Some people, such as the officer who engaged the offender will stay and fight. You cannot change a persons instincts. That is why we have many policemen, but not many police. The fact of the matter is that three policemen left a fellow officer knowing an armed offender had a gun pointed at him. Yes, it is monday morning quarterbacking, but shouldn't it be?
