The answer to the backlogs is to get rid of ALL tact and gang teams and turn them into uniformed working police in marked squad cars.

Just in case anyone in the public doesn't catch the sarcasm from basically all posts above, I guess an explanation may be in order.
Tact and gang teams are in the assignment protocol somewhere (I forget where). The only REAL strenuous objections I ever heard from them when assigning them once the beat and all response cars were gone was when giving domestics. Can't say I blame them on that one, and the order is idiotic.
But otherwise, they are in the protocol for getting 9-1-1 calls.
The problem is, they tend to not answer their radios, or be friends with dispatchers, or have sergeants that run interference for them, or blow off the jobs, or....
So dispatchers eventually find every reason to give them a pass.
Which works out just great. Some days nobody can find a tact or gang team, because they ain't there! Some dispatchers who have never found a reason to redline any marked car except when genuine safety concerns were raised (not answering for 10 minutes), have redlined entire tact teams.
Not that it really matters. Doubt anything was done with that notification, though there may very well be hell to pay for that someday.
Just in case any of the public readers thought that the problem is that calls aren't assignable to tact/gang, I just figured I'd ruin THAT little inside joke y'all were running with here.

My favorite thing about helping out in other districts is how friendly and efficient the desk and lockups are. They really let you know that they are glad you are there to help their dogs out.
Any additional info on how the SWIPING is going in the districts? Are people still swiping or has it been lax? Also, anyone have info on the next sergeant class? AND--------------------What is the thing with the comments on SEISER? who is he? AND----what is the deal with this BJ? who is she? I'm from 009th District and have been reading SCC for the past month. Can anyone answer my questions sincere?

The good old days of tact/ gang are gone or quickly going away. Teams are now given a quota in some areas and city wide soon. When I was on tact we were given freedom but expected to get results. My team was split between the dope guys and the robbery/shooting guys. The dope boys would spend a lot of time on "5" off the zone to communicate with each other. The result was after a while shutting down dope spots. The other team members had contacts, etc. and would clear robberies, locate shooting offenders, etc. Maybe no big deal to a lot of you. But consider this. As a result of our activity, beat/rapids would have less calls to deal with. Same with the detectives. Nobody does 1 robbery. Lock up a guy for 1 or 2 and the calls of robbery in a certain area would drop. Did we spend more time than some at lunch? Yeah. But we also spent that time sharing ideas and approaches to problems. Sorta like CAPS, but with results. The posistion is ruined with quotas. How can you work a pattern when your tied up locking up 3-4 drunks per car per day? I'm no longer a tact officer, quit the posistion a while ago. But as far as knocking them, the commenters seam more jealous than knowledgeable. Same people probably knocking tru, sos, etc.

All the kidding aside, I was pretty impressed. But if I could make a suggestion. They need to somehow automate the citation process. Something like the meter maids have but for traffic tickets would increase productivity 3 fold.
POST 11:33 Welcome to SCC where the weird is stranger then the mutts on the street. 1st-Swiping is still going on, it's the rule. 2nd-The next sergeant class will probably be right after the second part of this sergeant exam. (look for it the first week of July) 3rd-Seiser is some guy from either the 24 or 25 CPD District who is worshipped by his peers as a heroic crimefighter. 4th- BJ is some women detective from Area Two that unlike some women on the job, uses her head a lot.(figureativley speaking, of course) I worked in 009, but got out a couple years ago. You will find that this website is just okay. Usually a sounding board for present issues, but has some bathroom behavior at times.
BJ is a slut. Tell it like it is. I'm tired of us women being demeaned by some trailer trash.
When was the last time you saw more than 1 person on the watch go on the computer and look up new investigative alerts or warrants? When was the last time you saw a dog on a watch call an Area to find out the details of a shooting or homicide? When I was on a tact team this was daily protocol. I know there are some workers on the watch that do this, but the majority just get thier radios and run out for coffee. Those that haven't worked tact/gangs can cry all they want, but they never can add up the same part 1 arrests that any tact/gang officer have in a year.
Keep crying, you'll be on that beat car for 20 years. Then you'll cry about how the system is corrupt and you don't have a phone call to go anywhere.
It only takes a little initiative to get the productivity needed to get on a tact/gang team, but most will cry foul instead.
Get over it. This job is what you make of it and the sad fact is that most are content with passing by with the minimum needed to get paid. Be glad you get paid for the bullshit you do on the watch.
Anyone who wants to be on a tact/gang team can get there with a little effort. It's a whole lot easier to whine about it and complain.
Ask any respectible detective and he/she will tell yo they did thier time on tact/gangs. It's a fact of life that those who put forth effort will be chastized by the rest who feel they are left behind.
Want to be tact or gang? Go to A/3. Usually more openings than not.
And just try to get info out of A/3 Detectives.

Uh 1:35,kiss my ass.....and 12:49 your thoughts are in the right place when it comes to tact/gang. If only someone would really honor hard work and take notice to get to tact/gang, unfortunately in some Districts that ain't so...I won't say which District or Districts but seems at one place you dont need to work......hell you dont even need to know how to and bam! Right upstairs you go. Seems that other people gotta carry these "people" on paper to pad stats for meritorious promotions....hmmmmmm. Nice to know the man huh! So unfortunately in some places no matter how hard you work, you ain't gonna get there. Sorry for being negative, but clout rears its ugly head everywhere I guess. Yes tact/gang have to answer calls but only after beat cars...and rapids are down. Most are glad to help out when in a back log. And its well known that we usually dont write paper, why? cause we did that on the watch and left it to work tact and gang. It's when you work in a district where people are constantly dogging it by you know the routines "uh carwash" "uh personal" "uh 2nd personal" the "lunch" then unavoidable TVB" then "uh paper" that pisses off everyone cause not all tact/gang are always eating lunch and goin home early. Hey, the County Police helped us on the one off of Ashland. Nice guys, worked hard, did alot of the traffic enforcement work (that frankly needed to be done) so we can toss more cars. I'll definitely work with them guys again....
They brought two light trucks and their command bus. Whats up with ours, looked like the Partridge Family bnus! If we left it up to Streets/San we'd have nothing but a bunch of cones for people to run over....
I tossed more cars in an evening than I did in a week...

It's funny how all the tact slugs manage to see all these people yelling "rocks and blows" out in the middle of the street and are just able to come up with a solicitation arrest, or a drinking on the public way arrest. I can see there aare alot of uniformed officers comments in this section. I have been a tact guy for five years in a fast paced district. out of my last two sgts, there was no goin home early not even on your friday. It didnt matter if you brought in five guns or cleraed a robbery pattern. Not many sgt.s will cover for you and the ones that will don't have openings on their team. The only real benefit we have is to take off when we want, not wear a uniform and eat where we want. with all the nonsense goin on in the city, sometimes our hours change daily. That means a shitty family life so just when you think we got it great, think again. Its better than uniform but its not like it used to be 10 years ago.

Things have changed-Tac/gangs doesn't have much of a perk any more. We do 8 hours everyday, schedual and hours change all the time. All they care about now is numbers not quality. They feed us tons of useless info. and waste piles of paper making copies of everything so they can put numbers on more paper. They are more concerned about contact cards than arrests, but that goes for the watch too. Tac/gang teams are short all over city and the only P.O.'s that are interested in it have very little time on. They dept. usually destroys all that is good and they have finally made it to tac/gangs.
A TACT TEAM was the best spot in the city with the right sgt. NOW it is SHIT. veteran knowledgable tact guys get dumped and replaced with 3 year on the job fat broads. what a fucking joke. 10 year on tact and loved most of it. give me the watch any day. and i still work!
I went to tac after 5 years on. I had to put together a brief resume, and interview with the Tac LT. Started by doing summer relief and then finally got there. Life was good for about 5 years. Then I left for a too good to be true spot.
I got to put in a yellow slip the other day, and filled in the left side instead of the usual right side. Now that was COOL!

You can follow any car with shitheads in it for a block and have reason to pull them over! Let's see, tinted windows, blue lights, no turn signals being used, crossing the center line, I'm sure there are more than a few more! Once they are pulled over, it shouldn't take a good police officer more than a few moments to develop enough probable cause to "toss" the car. Oh, yeah, I forgot, you'd rather be talking with your "bitch" on the cell phone or drinking your latte! The police academy has sure created a bunch of losers on this job!

Hey! Leave us alone. I like working Tac. I dont have to wear the monkey suit half the time and can eat anywhere in the city. I get to lock up bustouts for drinking a 40 oz and get my three hours of court O.T in less than 5 minutes because bustout doesn't show. Then I go get him tommrow for drinking again plus a fail to appear warrant. Life is good. I just hope to never go back to the watch. I might have to fill out a traffic crash report. Dam those things are hard!!

I can top that! I get 3 hour lunch, get back to the office and find out I locked up 2 more drinkers with the TEAM while I was away. TEAMWORK! Word for the day.
