Eleven Days - 1,200 Tickets

Hope our readers aren't among the unfortunates caught speeding by the new State Police camera vans on the Dan Ryan. Channel 7 reports here:
  • The tickets and photographs that show cars zipping through construction zones on the Dan Ryan and Kingery Expressways will be mailed to the car owners.

The speed limit in construction zones is 45 mph. The cameras recorded cars going more than 14 miles over the limit.

The tickets can be as high as $375 in some construction zones. Already, the tickets add up to almost $500,000.

Yeah, many people @ work talking about this since they use the Ryan. Now they're using LSD.
Aside from getting away from the chance of getting a ticket, get away from the nutty drivers...

Speed and safety are not the issue on the Ryan. The issue is bucks, same as with the intersection cameras in the City. Go ahead and laugh it up. Eventually, one of you will get dinged for going through a red light. Won't be so funny then. Chinaman? There's nobody born of Asian ancestery that will get you off that one.

The truly sad thing is that people like you and me are the ones that are penalized. We're penalized because our registration and drivers information is valid and up to date. The guy who doesn't have a drivers license, and who doesn't have plates on his car, doesn't get a surprise in the mail.

Sabian, I'm with you. This is the result of the numerous workers hit on the Ryan over the last few years. Granted, I'd rather see them set up some massive DUI checkpoints every Friday and Saturday night, and maybe just do the speed-van thing in certain publicized hours (like, say, 10PM to 6 AM), but whatever.

Other than that, I just wish that they'd be more quick about informing people of the first ticket so they could change their behavior or be more careful. For those with a lead foot, you could get two tickets two days in a row that you don't even know about for months. Than, bam, your license was suspended X months ago AND you owe us Y dollars!

Seems a bit unfair.

Collecting alot of money for the friends of Daley, they will be grateful, as they head toward the Banks, with their new accounts. What makes anybody think that this money is going to help and or improve anything for the citizens of this dump.......all thats happening is a new way to fill the coffers of political hacks and allies of the Daley machine. Then and again they have to come up with this money for the alderCreatures new raises, boy! you coppers are so helpful, wonder if the aldercreature will be like minded when its your time for a raise
