Split Decision - Is It Enough?

Sorich was convicted on two counts and acquitted on two others. A second defendant was also convicted on two counts, a third on a single count and the final defendant faced only a "Lying to a Federal Agent" charge and was convicted (coverage at the Sun Times, Tribune, Channel 2 and Channel 7).

But what does it mean? We're going to have to wait and see with these latest convictions. The Feds are batting 41 convictions out of 44 indictments (1 died and 2 await trial, so they could conceivably bat 1.000 here). The trouble is too many of those convicted are willing to do their 18 months to 2 years for this Machine. And the Machine ends up rewarding their silence in some way, shape or form the way that the son of one convict got an $8 million dollar contract (or similar nonsense) immediately after daddy fled to Mexico.

Fitzgerald needs to figure out a way to hammer a few of these goofs the way they got "Quarters" Boyle on a seven year hitch. Seven years is a long time to spend away, even at Club Fed. And seven years far away from home instead of Wisconsin might loosen a few more tongues,

Today's conviction of Robert Sorich, et al., marks the beginning of the end of systemic political patronage in Chicago.

The jury has spoken. Kudos to AUSA Shapiro and Patrick Fitzgerald.

Look out merit bitches, the pendulum is swinging back. The merit days may be coming to an end look for a law suit against the CPD in the future. All of us who were in the top three, four to five hundred, had our careers violated. SCC please make a post were we can identify each merit. The FOP is refusing to give us this information at this time.

Screw Donunahue and Doherty we should cause a demeonstration especially now hosting the national fop convention.

Hold your cheers. The convictions handed down will do nothing to oust the "Tefflon Don" on the 5th floor.A setback? maybe.A defeat for the "Machine"...Stay tuned.

Anybody know this POS retired copper thats says in todays Tribune that he doesn't see anything wrong with what Sorich and his crew did? This is the same guy that we used to see on television all the time at City Council meetings. No doubt he's connected, thats why he had the job he did. Said that he doesn't understand whats wrong with friends helping friends. The goof doesn't understand (or maybe he does) that thats why all the exempts are exempts. Friends helping friends. Thats why this Dept. is so screwed up.
Jagballs!

The exempt process is supposed to be for political reasons, there is nothing illegal about it. The merit promotions on this job are a problem, but the real problem is the testing procedure. The fact that these few people in power make up the test that is given (part II, remember your knowledge of general orders of law do not count for your actual promtotion) and have ensured their friends get the answers and that is the real promblem on the job.
There is no incentive to be a good police officer to be promoted, but all kinds of incentives to suck up to the political hacks.

Hey Northside:
What are you dreaming? Like all criminals, they will not stop. They will just tweak their game a little to make detection a little more difficult. This game has been going on since Chicago was incorporated. Do I need to dust off old quotes about Chicago not being ready for reform? The Who stated in one of their songs: "Meet the new boss, same as the old boss." This shit will go on forever no matter who is in power-White, Black, or Hispanic. You should know that.

the federal govt. mandates hiring less qualified people based on race, gender, seual orientation and calls this affirative action or progress or the right thing to do. this also applies to housing admission to college etc. basically the fix is in if you belong to one of these groups. not to apoligize for anything daley does but when they do it is wrong and people will go to prison. it's apparently only wrong if the fix is in for the wrong i.e. non-minority people.

If you think the convictions are going to change anything you are a fool. Daley will be re-elected and the game will continue as it has since his father was in that office. The only differance they wont keep any more lists. nothing for the Feds to get their hands on. Sorich & Co. will go away for 15 months, the Machine will take care of the familys while they are gone. Daley will get them a $200,000 job in the private sector when they get out.

McCarthy was a good kid that got caught up in the political game. His dad was a precinct captain in the 11th Ward and one of Old Man Daley's biggest supporters. McCarthy WILL be taken care by the Daley family after he does his time because Daley knows that if he isn't there are a lot of things that he knows that the Feds would definitely be interested in.

This is just an eye opener. If you are ever approached by Feds, anything you say will be used against you. If they prove that you have lied, either by flat out lyying or as a slip, you will be charged with a Federal Felony.

You have the right to remain silent. Excercise that right...
