Ban the Liquor Stores!

More statistical BS reporting. This is just so much worthless data or worthless reporting by the newspaper. It's hard to tell without the internal numbers.
  • When it comes down to who lives or dies in a heat wave, the kind of businesses in your neighborhood could be the difference. That's what researchers from the University of Chicago and Ohio State found when analyzing the Chicago neighborhoods where 739 people died during the heat wave of 1995.

  • But what they did find was that neighborhoods with lots of liquor stores, bars and currency exchanges had higher death rates. That's likely because those types of enterprises "are not inviting to older residents,'' Browning said, and many stayed home.

And what does this have to do with anything? If you don't like liquor stores, bars or currency exchanges, don't patronize them. But to claim that the "enterprises are not inviting to older residents" and therefore contributed to their deaths is nothing short of asinine. Why not count the number of pot holes in the streets? Pot holes are "not inviting" to older people who don't like to drive over them - did pot holes therefore contribute to a higher death rate? How about poor tuckpointing on their houses? What about lawn square footage?

Who cares about liquor stores, bars and currency exchanges? The businesses are there because there is a demand for it in the neighborhoods. If there wasn't any business to be done there, they wouldn't exist. And we are sure that many of these businesses existed long before the heat wave of 1995 and continue to exist to this day because of a demand in the community. And they still don't contribute to the heat death rate.

How does this even relate to the temperature? And why were people who lost power sent to hotels, etc?
I can't afford ana ir conditioner and there are many others such as myself on the southside. Nobody is sending us to a hotel to sleep in a cool room.

The Ohio State study also disclosed a statistically significant numbers of the 1995 heat wave deaths occurred in neighborhoods with motels that charge hourly rates.

There was also a positive correlation with census tracts in which retailers sell copious quantities of mentholated cigarettes and 40 oz. bottles of malt liquor.

So, the point of this study is...

Where's Eddie "There oughta ba a law " Burke when we need him?

Can't he make murder illegal in the city of Chicago?

Oh, sorry, he's more concerned with fatty foods and smoking within the privacy of one's auto.

Ban something Eddie. You are on a roll. How about a ban on whining on the public way?

You know, neighborhoods with a high rate of liquor stores and currency exchanges usually have an unusually high rate of churches, too.

What about all these "reverends" who let people die in the streets as they sit around in their nice, cool store-front churches??

I say if liquor stores and currency exchanges increases death, lets put 5 of each on each block in the ghetto!

I'll even pitch in some loot for them!

Why do I always get a bad rap. I was a cop for a few motnths. You guys should love me. I am only trying to keep the city healthy while I make a fortune from my law pratice defending b ig time real estate moguls against the illegal property tax in the city.

I know w2hat you are going through; the BJs in the squad cars, the whores in the motels, the drinking and carousing, etc. I have been there and done that during my few months on the job.

But we have to stay healthy. My next ordinance will be to prohibit any police officer from having sex with the A/2 female detectives. I am only doing this for your own good. Oh yeah, if you were ever abused by a priest call my wife. She will wee to it that you are killed.

TO SCC:

I think it is time for you to take a "vacation" from deleting all of the bullshit that is posted on the board by shutting down the comment section for a few days every time one of these ASSHOLES posts crap on the board. Maybe then the IDIOTS will realize you mean business. I guess to control a few people you have to punish everyone.

Please consider this idea.

You can't ban liqour stores, where would Beavers get his smokes? Oh, the ban would be in Chicago, not Gary Indiana? Disregard, my bad.

Anyone hanging around a South Side liqour store is much more likely to die from lead poisoning than from the heat.

The study also cited the fact that heat deaths are also attributed to dining on fine female ass. OLE

Alright, I can see how at first blush this seems stupid. But the main point is that when you live in a neighborhood that has a low retail density, where there are fewer people strolling on the street, where there's no real reason to be there except to get a bottle and suck it down, there is less of a chance that someone will check in on you and see if you croaked yet. Makes sense to me.

It's already like that.

You need to get out of that cubicle at 35th & Michigan every now and then.

All Bullshit. Blacks and Jose don't succumb in the heatwave-they be chillin! Back in 1995 in my district only one ol' time M/1 approximately 80 YOA died in heatwave. Also one M/4, with serious medical issues died. Approximately 20-25 Ukrainians from the village, or goofy Polska's, died. Dumbells, like my inlaws who sit around with hundreds of thousands of dollars in mattresses but won't turn the air on during a family party on a sweltering day. You know what I'm going to do? I'm going to get a cadaver dog and stroll down streets in 013 seeking real estate bargains! Man am I happy I'm not a cabbage headed Pollack! But my kids are (sigh).

Aonther study by pointy heads who get paid to study something that they already have a conclusion for. They hate liquor, liquor stores, etc. So they fund and get paid for a study to prove themselves right.

People die from the heat because they are either sick and have no air or they worked to hard and did not keep hydrated.

Ever notice how no one dies from the heat while sitting in a tavern?

Taverns save lives. There ought to be one on every corner.

How about some of the shit pool cars we get, no air....older districts like 007, 009 w/ no air for the po's..maybe we should process people at a nice air conditioned hotel.....we be hot too....no air in a car is not a valid reason for downing a car they say, you always have to make up some other malfunction....

A new study from the University of Nevada Las Vegas Sex industry Studies Department proves that areas with whore houses have better physical health and higher longevity rates among males.

Will we see whore houses in Chicago again? Will Eddie, the health freak, Burke introduce the ordinance?

Brilliant.

Chicago should follow the example of our Dutch friends in Amsterdam.

Legalize prostitution, marijuana (and gambling) in specific areas of the city. Then tax the bejesus out of it.
