Boondoggle Gets Bigger

This Olympic bid is just getting goofier. Now the mayor, who so often wants to be known as the "green mayor" is on the path to destroying hundreds of acres of prime park land in an effort to build a 95,000 seat collapsible stadium to host opening and closing ceremonies for the 2016 Games.

Coverage at the Sun Times, Channel 2 and Channel 7.

But when people start asking the hard questions, like "Who's going to pay for this stadium?" then the mayor gets all defensive and starts mumbling about all options being looked at, financing will be found, blah blah blah. Corporate sponsors are already backpedalling away from this one, saying they paid for most of Millennium Park and they don't really feel like getting stuck with another big layout.

Olympics almost always lose money. Lots of money. We really don't need to be bleeding this kind of money when our pension funds are lagging at something like 50% of liabilities. Someone please kill this proposal. Soon.

The Hired Trucks will take away the park greenery.

The Hired Trucks will bring in the New Stadium

The Hired Trucks will take the stadium away.

The Hired Trucks will bring the greenery back.

As far as Richie sees this, it's a win-win-win-win situation for him.

As far as our benefits go, it's a lose-lose-lose-lose situation.

Which is OK by Richie.

They interviewed some loser who works at Shark Fish n Chicken at 51/Cottage Grove on the news today.
He is thrilled about a possible stadium being built in Washington Park. He cannot wait to get that Olympic crowd into Shark.

Yes, thats what we want to show the world. An area where visitors can get hushpuppies and mugged.

Great movie Richie!!

The whole idea of is insane and I believe we should now declare our mayor a personal concern.

Oh yeah. He don't give a shit about complying with Federal Law so why should he care about rewriting the Olympic Games.....

Gee I am glad to see you eejits are keeping up the quality of commentary on this board. Why let facts get in the way of your Daley bashing/

By the way not all Olympics lose money and the residual benefits can benefit the whole city........of course since most of you guys want to live in the suburbs anyway who cares?

Now I find this comment particularly stupid:"They interviewed some loser who works at Shark Fish n Chicken at 51/Cottage Grove on the news today.
He is thrilled about a possible stadium being built in Washington Park. He cannot wait to get that Olympic crowd into Shark."

Some "loser". Here is a guy who is working and probably not out on the street harassing or mugging anyone and you call him a loser. In my book a loudmouthed idiot like yourself is more likely a loser.

As the first Mayor Daley said "how many trees you guys plant?"

Instead of whining why not do something constructive like retire and let some younger more aggressive less whiny cops take you jobs.

Montana, Florida, and Arizona beckon.

YARRRRRGH

Those aren't parrots you greenhorn those are the bastard children of the 015th Districts Bishop Magic Juan! They flew off due to the combined efforts of community policing and West Nile Virus! Man, get some time on the job. Where's the post possum defender when you need him?

Ahhh, washington park. Maybe the good mayor will drive through by himself on a friday or saturday nite in august? Or will he depend on streets and san to clean it up first, then require 002 to close the park and provide security before he drives through? Give me a break. Whats next, the 15 floor dash up the jet on calumet as a new olympic sport? I hope CPD has a TON of billingual officers, as there are going to be a whole lot of case reports generated for a few weeks....

ONLY in this cesepool of a city/county/state can ILLEGAL FELON ALIENS sue American citizens!! FUCK THE DEMOCRATIC MACHINE!!

"A line of stuffed animals remained along the wrought-iron fence in front of 7706 N. Marshfield. Speaking softly -- if at all -- the three said their families were trying to heal and move on.

But the pain was evident in the strained face of Delia Ramirez, 19, who looked to her sister for support, and in the shocked look of Luis Alberto Ramos, who struggled for words as he stared blankly into the cameras in front of him.

"We're just trying to get over what happened,'' Ramos, 15, said. "It's hard. I just have to support my mom and support each other ... so we can get past what happened.''

Building owners hit with suit

The three survivors gathered at the fence with their attorneys to announce they had filed a lawsuit against the owners of the building, claiming that they failed to maintain adequate smoke detectors in the Ramirezes' apartment and that it was unsafe.

The Ramirez sisters lost five siblings in the fire on Sept. 3 -- Vanessa, 14; Erick, 12; Idaly, 6; Sucette, 10; and Kevin, 3. Ramos lost his only sister, Scarlett, 3, who was being baby-sat by the family. Two other Ramirez children, Natali and William, ages 16 and 7, were injured and have been released from the hospital."

Iknow this is off topic and I'm sorry, but I gotta say SOMETHING.Whats up with these guys at the area 3 range on 3rd watch? I mean WTF! I've NEVER EVER been treated as poorly as I am when I go in there to shoot.I mean it's gotten so bad that I may just have to go to a private range and pay to shoot rather than put up with their bullshit. And that one guy that thinks he's still in the Marine Corp. Give it up buddy. You wouldn't make a pimple on a Marines ass. Your old, fat, out of shape and you really can't shoot. I'll bet you were never a Marine anyway. You are probably just another wannabe poser! And what about the other guy, the Dr. Zorba lookalike? I've never met a more arrogant and condesending man in my life. Do you think I don't know how to shoot? I'll shoot rings around you Doc. Sorry for this off topic post but I just had to vent.

I guess the guy is a loser because he works at a place called "Sharks"
instead of selling dope and sticking people up.....any economical boom for any area that does not produce a tax base for itself helps us all. This Olympic thing probably is and will remain a pipe dream. The Washington Park area by the Olympic years will be so transformed, Sharks might not even be in exsistence if this do come to pass. Apparently you feel the only certain ethnic groups or areas should be able to enhance themselves financially

The Olympics in Chicago can be a positive thing or a negative thing. It depends on how the money is distributed. If all the Games accomplish is the further enrichment of the same Fat-Cats who benefit from most of Daley's legislation, then we should take a pass. As always, it will be the taxpayer holding the bill in the end. I have no doubt that this will be the case should Chicago "win" the right to host the Games.

Our pensions and the city's infrastructure will continue to crumble after the cameras leave and the crowds go home. It only stands to reason that the stadiums will likely be collapsible. After serving their purpose--sucking money out of the taxpayer and redirecting it to the Fat Cats--there's realy no reason to keep them.

This is one of the rare occasions were I am in agreement with you SCC. The Olympics are a major hustle that leave insurmountable debt in its wake. But that of course is the taxpayer's concern. Our mayor, however, fully understands that what's important is that the Fat-Cats are not denied this important opportunity for plunder.

PS: SCC, Coldtype is no more, however, like the Phoenix he has risen from the ashes BIGGER, BADDER, and BOLDER. Check out his lair, but bring your A-Game! To know him is to love him. To love him is to know him. Or something like that. Stay safe.

Does EVERY big city have a mayor who's an idiot? There's no way yours could be worse than Philly's Mayor Street. He defines the word CORRUPT!

Anyway...

I'm sure Chicago has many fine things to offer, but I've never been so I can only assume, SOOOOOOO for those who decide they might want to move to the East Coast (namely Philadelphia and the surrounding area), HERE is something that makes Philly special. Gentlemen, enjoy (and for all you women who appreciate beauty). ;)

This evening around 1815 HRS the city activated their air sirens in 023 Dist. It took OEMC over 15 minutes to advise officers on the zone why the sirens had been activated. They advised that they were activated city wide and a tornado had been spotted on the northwest side. Why not have a point-to-point message on the zone for the purpose of the activation at the time of activation. Hate to see how OEMC/City handles a terrorist attack.

“in response to the sad outcome of the fire victims on 7700 n marshfield"

This reminds me of one of the few goofy CAPS meetings I was forced to attend.

Some people there started to complain that their landlords did not provide them with smoke detectors and/or the smoke detectors had been stolen. They were of course worried about their children.

Some of the officers there started talking about reporting the landlords, about theft case reports and yada-yada-yada.

Finally having enough of CAPS B.S. I started a stern lecture.

SHAME on your landlord if he didn't provide you with a smoke detector!

SHAME on anyone who would steal a smoke detector!

But, SHAME ON YOU if you don't spend the equivalent of a six-pack of beer at any hardware store on a smoke detector and let your kids sleep without one.

Some said that they didn't want to leave it when they moved. I told them it was only a few dollars and it was about their kids. If they just put the battery in and hung it like a picture as high up on the wall as possible, or even put it on top of the dresser it would give you some level of protection.

Now, I understand that anyone can walk into almost any firehouse in Chicago and get one for free.

No excuses!

WARNING TO ALL CITY EMPLOYEES. IF YOU OR A MEMBER OF YOUR FAMILY ARE GETTING REGULAR MEDICAL THERAPHY TREATMENTS YOU MAY BE HITTING NEW ANNUAL LIMITS ON YOUR INSURANCE.

This is probably happening to other city employees.

DAMN YOU RICHIE FOR TRADEING THE SECURITY OF THE CITY, AND THE EMPLOYEES FOR CAMPAIGN CONTRIBUTIONS FROM HIRED TRUCKS AND FLOWERPOTS!!!

My kid use to get regular medical treatments that our old insurance provided throughout the whole year. With this new junk P.P.O. plan from Blue Cross/Blue Shield we just found out that we hit the limit on it last in August. We now have to pay full boat for August till the end of the year. I wonder what medical plans the politicians have.

I'll vote for anyone now over that arrogant goof.

Ask around people. Ask your friends and family what kind of health insurance that they have and what their premimums are? Ask what kind of health insurance that they get when they retire?
You will be surprised. Private sector has great insurance for active employees and retirees. Why can't we? What does your alderman have, get when they retire? What does the mayor have/get when he retires? Whay can't the FOP do something?
Anyone have any legitimate answers here?
