Here's Some Guns - But Don't Practice

More inanity out of what we can only assume is the liberal wing of the country. Channel 2 and Channel 7 have the exact same story up - the Coast Guard has been mounting a bunch of machine guns on their boats, but now they have been held up actually practicing with the damn things.
  • A Coast Guard plan to test guns on the Great Lakes has itself come under fire. The Coast Guard has proposed holding target practice with boat-mounted machine guns at dozens of "live-fire zones" around the Great Lakes. One of the zones would be just a few miles from several North Shore beaches.

But after complaints from boating groups and at least one congressman, the Coast Guard has put those plans on hold to accept public comments for 60 days.

Critics say the target practice could threaten boaters and beach-goers. Others say the guns -- which can fire up to 600 rounds a minute -- could also pose an environmental hazard.

Coast Guard stations around the Great Lakes began installing the M-240 machine guns on their boats this year as part of the nation's anti-terrorism efforts.

There are few things more useless in this world than an unloaded gun, and there are few things more dangerous than a loaded gun in the hands of someone who doesn't know how to use it. Let the Coasties practice!

its a joke in the first place that they only get to mount the .22 cal m249 instead of something more formidable like the .50 cal. m2 or at least a .30 cal m60.
and just whare does the navy out of great lakes practice live fire off vessles?
i think the coast guard mounts 30's or 50's in new york waterways.

Can't they find some remote area off Lake Superior rather than a few miles off the North Shore? I'm not a big fan of the stuffy North Shore folk, but this should be done where there is less chance of civilians being around.
Option: Why don't they go to the Rio Grande and shoot a few rounds there?

The anti-gun crowd has a hard-on for anything that burns nitro cellouse..... Regardless of who owns it, who uses it, and how it is used.

What will the Nancy Pellosi/Chuck Schumer/Ted Kennedy types do when the police/military/coast guard can't practice with their tools, in a semi-realistic training venue.

Shooting at a piece of paper hung up on the area range doesn't cut it.

We train to the lowest common denominator.... Not just CPD, but all agencies. The military especially; they have more accidental discharges, and kill more innocent kids dressed up as soldiers than anyone. The USCG needs to use their tools as intended on the water.

The yuppie-scum lawyer/quiche eating weekend boat "Captains" need to paddle their shit elsewhere.

Bring back Jack Manfrey, Don Evangelista, and the other real trainers......

Off topic, but off duty PO killed in car accident early this morning at 67/Cicero. He was struck by a car of young polish kids speeding, not at fault. I don't want to say his name yet until the family/close friends are notified. That would be a shitty way to find out. So sad...be careful out there.

Kind of like Clinton's rules of engagement in Somalia, do not fire upon anyone unless they shoot first. We have many ripe targets along the lake front that a speed boat full of HE could do some real damage. Why do I have a feeling the dynamic duo, Durbin and Schakowsky are behind the lunacy....

Is the waterway (Lakes/Rivers) State regulated or Federally regulated? I thought the Feds owned all water rights, then State, then private, etc... They shouldn't ven mention it. Friggin pols. They can't do anything right. Just close the lake or the shoreline when and where the y are shooting and have at it. The people who are bitching about the boas practicing are not voting for anyone decent anyway. The fed should just do what they have to and call it a matter of national security (which it is) and screw the courts and bastard liberals that are trying to stop ot rights to remain safe in our own country.

I say let them p[ractice. After striking water at an oblique angle, the rounds will be destabilized and travel less than a half mile. There is little danger to the public, especially if the area is a few miles out in the lake and marked by buoys. Boater are supposed to know what marker buoys are. It's their "Rules of The Road". The most dangerous thing is to turn loose untrained, or undertrained personnel with weapons that they are unfamiliar with. That is the mentality of this department, because the top brass are so inundated and controlled by the liberals who believe that inanimate objects are the true cause of crime rather than people's actions. It's easier to blame a piece of metal than expect these dregs of society to accept responsibility for their actions.

As stated, the M-249 is in 5.56 MM anf the M-240 is in 7.62, a more effective round. The M-2HB is a great weapon for light armor/vehicles/ equipment and such but is a little overkill for anti personnel use. I do believe, however that they should be included in the mix. Many boats nowadays are constructed with Kevlar hulls. Place some cold rolled steel plating (1/4 inch backing) behind the Kevlar The thickness of our vests)and you will defeat the 5.56 round and standard 7.62 Ball rounds at distances of 300 meters. The .50 cal rounds are all AP, even the standard Ball rounds, let alone the Tracer or Incendiary rounds.

M240 is a 308 round. Same as the 60 just a newer version. The M249 is the .223.

As far as the odpo, it was at 67 Cicero. Ejected, no seat belt. Godspeed my friend.

If you dont respect anything else, take a moment and see what YOU created and the MEDIA attention you have brought to the site.

We created a little site where coppers could have some fun, blow off some steam, share some war stories. If you think this Department runs on anything but stories, you're sadly mistaken

Coppers who are dirty should pay a price for their actions.

agreed

YOU in my book are spineless and in no way should be compared to a working STREET copper.

an insult without basis. we've worked the street plenty of years and continue to do so. we've made many arrests, gotten many awards and given the prime of our life to this job. screw you

You hide behind this site, dignify lies, report unconfirmed rumors and scandal.

we just publish the site. yes, we hide our identity, but with good reason. if you think there wouldn't be penalties for what we do here, you're a moron.

YOY have no balls.

again, the awards and career say differently

In my 20 plus years of duty I sped to every 10-1 and copper needs assistance.

us too. imagine that?

You I could give 2 shits about. You are NOT a COP, you are an individual who hides behind others.

so now because of something you read that we probably didn't have anything to do with, you're going to turn your back on 20 plus years of being a respectable human being and competent police officer? Wow. We'll bet that as soon as the Mexican army marches over the border, you'll be at the front of the parade with the white flag and shouting "Amigo! Amigo!" Asshat

Whatever you spend a month to keep this site going could dedicate it towards the memorial where it would be of value and worth.

it's free jackass. go read about it. and we've probably given more to the memorial than you ever did

Congrats on being part of the new generation of hair gel and leather gloves.

never needed hair gel - don't have enough to worry about gel. As to leather gloves, keep your little fantasies to yourself please. We were always a sap guy.

Answer your calls and thats it. Give this city nothing. Give the citizens their police service and make the politicians scream for our help. I stopped hunting a few years back and feel a thousand percent more relaxed. No more BS with the states attorney, bosses, court.

Forget the BE THE REAL POLICE shit. It only gets you jammed up. Rememeber to stand pretty when the aldergoofs demand we have a roll call at one of their bullshit block/street meetings.

"overkill for anti personnel"
yes, but what if the bad guys are in a vessle or behind cover.
think of it this way. remember when you were a kid and a bigger kid put his hand on your head, held his arm out strait and told you to punch him. you might have thrown a punch before realizing your reach was insufficient but his was not.
sometimes you need to reach out.

After 9-11, and especially after some of the bomb attacks in other countries, I expected many bomb attacks in this country by now. I now believe the FBI, CIA, ATF, etc, are doing a good job behind the scenes. Trying to make/buy bombs probably leaves too much of a trail; be it paper, etc. Therefore I believe our next attacks will be small groups of these maniacs w/high powered weapons attacking a sports event or some other large gathering of citizens, and killing as many as they can before the Police can take them down. Sound stupid? Thats what they were doing in the mid 80's when they were walking into airports in Europe and mowing people down.(gringos included) And thats why Reagan bombed Libya. This discussion of weapons is great; remember all u people working squad cars, your the bottom of the rung. Your unconnected and the city could care less, but you'll be the first to run into these guys, bad luck OR by the radio. its up to u to stay well armed, and trained!Read what some of these beloved gun nuts are saying on this blog!!!!

The Squad Automatic Weapon (SAW), or 5.56mm M249 is an individually portable, gas operated, magazine or disintegrating metallic link-belt fed, light machine gun with fixed headspace and quick change barrel feature. The M249 engages point targets out to 800 meters, firing the improved NATO standard 5.56mm cartridge. The SAW forms the basis of firepower for the fire team. The gunner has the option of using 30-round M16 magazines or linked ammunition from pre-loaded 200-round plastic magazines. The gunner's basic load is 600 rounds of linked ammunition.

The M240G Machine Gun is the ground version of the original M240/M240E1, 7.62mm medium class weapon designed as a coaxial/pintle mounted machine gun for tanks and light armored vehicles. The rate of fire may be controlled by three different regulator settings. The M240G is modified for ground use by the installation of an ""infantry modification kit,"" comprised of a flash suppressor, front sight, carrying handle for the barrel, a buttstock, infantry length pistol grip, bipod, and rear sight assembly. While possessing many of the same basic characteristics as the M60 series medium class machine guns, the durability of the M240 system results in superior reliability and maintainability when compared to the M60.

The Browning M2 .50 Caliber Machine Gun, Heavy barrel is an automatic, recoil operated, air-cooled machine gun with adjustable headspace and is crew transportable with limited amounts of ammunition over short distances. By repositioning some of the component parts, ammunition may be fed from either the left or right side. A disintegrating metallic link-belt is used to feed the ammunition into the weapon. This gun is has a back plate with spade grips, trigger, and bolt latch release. This gun may be mounted on ground mounts and most vehicles as an anti-personnel and anti-aircraft weapon. The gun is equipped with leaf-type rear sight, flash suppressor and a spare barrel assembly. Associated components are the M63 antiaircraft mount and the M3 tripod mount.
