How About This Study?

Think FOP ought to take a look at this one and use it in Springfield?
  • Move to the Suburbs, Live Longer
  • Harvard researchers today are reporting huge and growing gaps in life expectancies throughout the United States.
  • And the gaps have been increasing since 1984.
A provable study that city living kills you faster. Seems we ought to be paid more and receive some sort of "urban differential" for being forced to live here in violation of everything American.

That's just another reason to keep us all in the city. If they can shorten our life expectancy, maybe they can make up that shortfall in the pension fund.

C'mon Illinois HB4967 and SB2586. The first step in amending the stupid law.

We definetly need residency! Ten years ago no one talked about it, no one cared about it. Home values have rocketed and PO's have no where to live but the ghetto when they are new on the job.

I never thought I would say this because I've always been a city slicker and love thsi city. However it has become inhabited by derelicts. No jobs, stupid people blocking the doors in front of the El's and you have to fight your way out, dumb ass people walking down the sidewalk and you can't get around them, drivers talking on the cell phones and almost hitting you as a pedestrian, etc.

Now I have thought about moving to the suburbs. Cleaner air, taking the Metra where people do not block the doors because the riders and Metra people do not tolerate that, lower taxes, and a whole host of other things.

It always puzzled me why cops who worked in the city retired out to the desert, mountains, country, etc.

After living in this godforsaken city, I want to save up to buy 100 acres and move to an area with a pop. of 50.

Ummm...Lefty, do you even read the crap you write?

When I worked in the deuce there was a marker around 45th and King (probably still is) at the house where the Marx brothers lived in the 1910's. Then the blacks forced them and all the other light skinned people out! (that was sarcastic)

Are the residents who lived in "The Hole" better or worse off now that most have been relocated to the suburbs? Were all the minority building owners who made a killing when places like Humboldt Park were suddenly inhabitable being "taken advantage" of by whitey?

Your understanding of economics, real estate and society are overwhelming. (also sarcastic)

To Left is Best,
Please explain how the mostly white population forced out longtime minority residents on the near south and west side.
Apparently, the higher taxes that the liberal democrats impose on the area are the reason that people are forced to move. Please explain how the mostly white population are so horrible for making the long-time minority residents property more valuable. Please explain how bad whitey is by reducing the crime rate in these neighborhoods. You have no basis in fact that it is white people that have "forced out long-time minority residents." If you are a lefty wouldn't the increased values enrich the tax coffers with money that the democrats are elways eager to spend? Again as i've stated before you are free to move in withy the long-time minority residents and make that neighborhood better or you can become a conservative and attempt to lower the taxes in the areas that people were "forced out" of. The dilemma for you is obvious, you cannot and will not be able to do either. With your inability to mandate how the residents live because your party chooses to make it that way by increasing the real estate taxes. Take up the cause Lefty, lower taxes and then the people won't be "forced out". Maybe a good way to do this would be to elect a fiscal conservative.

Would the study also include the mostly white population returning to the near South and West sides who have forced out the long-time minority residents there? Probably not.

Like what "black" suburbs?? Maywood? Havey? Dolton? Detroit?

Cmon, pls....

I read the related article on MSN.com. One quote there really struck me:

"If I were living in parts of the country with those sorts of life expectancies, I would want ... to be asking my local officials or state officials or my congressman, 'Why is this?'"

A typical liberal response. It is nothing they may be doing to shorten their life but it is the governments fault.

P.S.

Hey Lefty, If you are worried about Whites driving out blacks why do you live in mount greenwood and send your kids to catholic schools.

Lefty first of all the study was done by one of YOUR liberal institutions, Harvard Univ. Now since property in the city is at a premium most of the "underclass" are moving out to the 'burbs. Aren't the "upperclass" then giving up the benefit of longevity to those less fortunate? Even your beloved Stalin and Che' would applaud that!

Socialism and Communism only work for those who are forcing it upon their fellow comrade citizens. Even George Orwell the noted Socialist pointed that out in his book "1984".

Everyone can relax. FOP says residency is "on the table." Remind anyone of other phrases like, "circular file" or "the check's in the mail?" I'm SURE the lodge board will be more sympathetic to the needs of the blue shirts when they are white shirts. You know, after they vote down the constitutional ammendment 19Sep 1900 hrs. Then the new bullshit phrase will be that we are all "on the same page."

SCC: see you at the FOP meeting (though I won't know who you are you will know me-just look for the guy with the pissed off expression cuz he had to pay a babysitter so he could drag his ass down to a meeting to vote FOR keeping white shirts off the board cuz the snakeoil lodge didn't do this as a mail-in ballot)!

To Left is the best a great quote

"In the end, if we are honest about it, we'd have to agree that liberalism is basically cowardice, were it not so, but there it is"

Albert Einstein

LOL Top that!

Lefty, can you please give me one example of where communism or socialism benefited a country? I know the socialist programs here just encourage the poor to stay poor. And are you one of those people who are upset that the projects coming down caused bronzeville to change? You prefer to have poor people all in the same sh*t hole? Are you too dumb to realize it is left leaning thought and policies that created the complacancy of the poor in Chicago? Are you just really lazy and so you want to live under socialism where the government pays for everything, no one has a reason to work hard (or at all), creativity dies, art dies, freedom dies and a**holes like you get to bleed the country dry? Do you flaunt strong opinions to divert attention from your poor work performance and lack of understanding and fear of the job? Go back to blowing off your work to the real police.

Are the FOP reps going to come to roll calls on 19Sep and dangle shiny objects in front of us to distract us from the CONSTITUTIONAL ammendment vote that, if voted down, will allow supervisors to be on our lodge board? Or is the issue of residency being suddenly thrown about enough diversion? Hope we don't all fall for this smokescreen. They just now realized that we want residency rule lifted? Bullshit. It's the one hot button they can push to get us to ignore the CURRENT issue: Supervisors serving on the lodge board. "Ooooh, shiny object...must look..."
19Sep 1900 hrs.! SEND A MESSAGE! TAKE BACK YOUR FOP!

What's with this asshole who keeps on whining about lifting the residency??....look, when you took the job you knew the rules...stop already or quit the job jagoff. Go work and live in the burbs if you think it is greener on the otherside, just shut the fu*k up about the residency already.
Please SCC, this asshole is as annoying as Ole.

Fuk residency,if your on time for work thats all that should matter. You don't think if I get a chance to move out of town some mofo won't by my house? How many cops who live here shop here?Do your kids go to school here?Does the FOP have the balls to push this issue at contract time or will they lay down and pussy out?
My brother is a PO in the burbs and 5-6 yrs ago in order to lift residency the PO's gave up 4yrs of raises and it was lifted,I know it sounds crazy but in order to ger something we have to give something.
Going on the medical might not be a hot topic if we didn't have so many medical abusers like the ones down at #376,esp. Sgt. RY,and health care is a big issue along with residency, just throwing ideas out there but residency must go so I could live longer.
