Signs of Sanity in Chicago
Not just one example, but TWO!
- Infuriating organized labor and delighting business leaders, Mayor Daley today vetoed an ordinance that would have required Wal-Mart and other 'big-box' retailers to pay employees a 'living wage' of at least $13-an-hour in wages and benefits by 2010.
This wasn't unexpected as even the mayor has passed Econ 101. Now if he can just whip an aldercreature or two into line, this one is dead dead dead.
This next one however, comes as a bit of a surprise:
This next one however, comes as a bit of a surprise:
- Sarcastic headlines started popping up around the world. Comedians and talk show hosts had a field day. Now, a pair of influential aldermen have had enough. No longer willing to be the butt of jokes, Aldermen Burton F. Natarus (42nd) and Bernard Stone (50th) three weeks ago filed an ordinance with the city clerk to repeal the foie gras ban.
If these guys really want to make a difference, they ought to kill Ed Burke's latest attempt to outlaw transfat or what ever the nanny state of Chicago is attempting to outlaw. Stay the hell out of our food you jackasses.

Worried CIA Officers Buy Legal Insurance
Plans Fund Defense In Anti-Terror Cases
By R. Jeffrey Smith
Washington Post Staff Writer
Monday, September 11, 2006; A01
CIA counterterrorism officers have signed up in growing numbers for a government-reimbursed, private insurance plan that would pay their civil judgments and legal expenses if they are sued or charged with criminal wrongdoing, according to current and former intelligence officials and others with knowledge of the program.
The new enrollments reflect heightened anxiety at the CIA that officers may be vulnerable to accusations they were involved in abuse, torture, human rights violations and other misconduct, including wrongdoing related to the Sept. 11, 2001, attacks. They worry that they will not have Justice Department representation in court or congressional inquiries, the officials said.

they were talking about ordering foie gras in a rerun episode of laguna beach yesterday.....to think even if i wanted too i could not get it....damn you chicago aldermen!
Off topic, but on target:
YOU KNOW YOU'RE ABOUT TO GET JAMMED UP WHEN:
You wake up hung-over in a seedy motel, naked, with your genitals freshly shaved, a ball-gag in your mouth, a bottle of tequila crazy-glued to your hand, your service weapon emptied on the floor next to a puddle of someone else's blood...
Suddenly someone outside the door yells:
POLICE DEPARTMENT! SEARCH WARRANT!!!!!!
You're referred to as "The Police Officer Formerly Known As...."
You meet one of the guys right out of the Academy and he says, "Hey, didn't I see your picture in the newspaper?"
You start saying the Policeman's Prayer....
"God, Please let me get away with this and I'll never ever ever ever ever do it again!!"
Yours is the only pay stub that has the Miranda warning printed on it!
Can we ban Aldermen?
Rumour has it that there will be NO MORE promotions from the old list....any promotions will come off the NEW LIST!! This is on very good authority...believe it or not...
DEAD MEN TELL NO TALES !!!!!
Ald. Ed Burke.......Come on, give lil Eddie a break, he's afraid of trans fat just like he's afraid to go around Chicago without his army of tax payer paid police bodyguards.
Some years back, there was a similar insurance policy for cops. The company approached FOP. After consulting with the city, FOP took their marching orders and turned the company down. Bad public relations, you see.
The policy would have covered individual officers against punitive and other damages arising out of lawsuits.
OFF TOPIC
I'm pissed!!! Who in the hell was driving ambulance 50 tonight? All night long they drove up and down the streets with the sirens blarring as if to say "If I have to be up all night, so do they"? How do I go about making a formal complaint? It's not every night that this happens. I do understand that sirens are needed, sometimes but especially not heading back to the fire house!! Besides, the streets were almost empty so what's the point?? I say it's just because the driver of ambulance 50 was being an ass!!

Last class of sgts off the old list to start in October......at least 50 promos.
To 06:02:00 Beleive it or not, the Fire Dept. has an IAD. You could contact them.
This just in:
The A/2 Gun Team executed a search warrant and raided a private dining club on the Northside. They stormed in brandishing their guns and throwing well healed diners against the wall. All were arrested, including the owner of the club. Plates containing fois gras were recovered as well as a staxh of foi gras cached in a locked refrigerator.
In sum, twenty two people were arrestes for posession of fois gras. The owner of the club was charged with posession with intent to distribute fois gras.
No fire arms were recovered.
The merit packages were turned and if they haven't already, the round table will be meeting soon to decide who the exempts are going to recommend to the Supt. for Sgt's.
Besides, did you know that the firm who put together the recent Sgt's exam has completed grading the exam? The are not releasing the results because the city has not paid them.
I understand that Wal-Mart has agreed to sell fois grais only in suburbans stores. So the Alderman will agree not to overturn the veto. Thank God they are there to look out for us. I can sleep easy now here in the city away from that illegal food stuff.

do you remmeber the Co.'s name?
Pay and benefits for private industry jobs shouldn't be legislated through city hall. Let the congressmen and Senators on Capitol Hill raise the minimum wage and legislate health care for these types of jobs. Then let the President sign it into law.But we ALL know that as long as Bush and the GOP control Washington,it ain't gonna happen. A lot of people may be angry with Da'Mayor for using his veto powers but to me it's understandable why he did. There's NO WAY Daley was gonna risk losing all that potential tax revenue. People in this city are already being hit with tax increases. This was a good way to offset whatever budget shortfall the city might have. And for those people who will be working in those "big box" stores,I'm quite sure the majority of them will tell you that the job they have beats no job at all.
There will be promotions off old list. Class for Sgt./ detective training is being formed.
coldtype....thank you for the mini econ 101 lecture.

I say build a Wal Mart in every neighborhood!!!!!
Mow the grassroots down, they only produce weeds.
Hey, don't tell the A/2 Gun Team. I got some good stuff, man, straight from France. The real deal. Fois gras. The best. made from geese who were hand stuffed by French virgins. It is virgin fois gras.
It is stored in a secret place in my house. Get it while it is still illegal.

You must be leftisbest's lover.

No, but I do remember a couple of contracts back when FOP wanted to initiate a fund to reimburse officers for suspensions of five days or more until their grievances were settled.
The city said no and FOP caved in.
Your union in action.
Hey 9/12- 12:18:22am and 8:39:29am, hysterical, thank you.
