Dumbass of the Week

  • A 27-year-old "self-admitted" gang-member was shot Sunday morning on the North Side Wicker Park neighborhood after he pointed a radio faceplate at an off-duty police officer, implying it was a gun, police said.
Unfortunately, the dumbass was only grazed in the shoulder, pointing once again at the need to improve marksmanship on this job. We could probably kill more than 100 people in a single year if we really tried. And you know what?

That'd be the last time we kill more than 20 people in a year for the next hundred years, because stupid people would quit pointing guns (or pretending to point guns) at the police in Chicago for a very long time.

How often are you required by the CPD to qualify at the range?

How often do you all go on your own time to practice?

Just curious...

I overheard an officer today complaining about that detective who shot the gangbanger for pointing what was discovered later to be a radio faceplate at the off duty Det. I informed this officer that had I been in that situation, I probably would have dropped down on one knee for greater stability and would have fired away close to an entire magazine full of bullets in asshole's direction. I explained to this young copper that from the distance, the Det. didn't know WHAT the gangbanger was pointing at the copper. Having just put this knucklehead and his comrades out of a restaurant where they were creating a disturbance (and identifying himself in the process), this young knucklehead KNEW he was messing with the police. By pointing ANYTHING in the direction of the off-duty and shouting threats in the coppper's direction, he obviously had a death wish, one I would have tried my damndest to fulfill. All that machismo and nothing to back it up with. What a dumbass!!

a radio faceplate resembles a gun more than a pair of sunglasses anyday, and we know cases when that's been justified! Good shooting I say.

just a quick note regarding painting bb guns bright colors so the police would know its fake, several companies already offer to paint real firearms various colors. in fact, there's a german company that offers it in baby blue and hot pink to go with ur outfit...be careful out there, just because the weapon isnt blue steel or chrome doesnt mean its not real

016's dumbasses of the week. A certain tact car yells at a citizen who is double parked, picking up her child at school. A short time later the lady is at home, and happens to peek out her window, only to find the same tact team out of their car, ticketing her car. Phil, isn't that like stalking. By the way, you two idiots, two of the lady's family members are the police. And you knew that. OOPS! Next stop, IAD.

TO 3:20 WERE YOU THERE ? DIDN'T THINK SO. I WAS OFF-DUTY PICKING UP MY KIDS WHEN I HEARD THE WHOLE EXCHANGE. LADY WAS BLOCKING THE STREET (WHICH SHE DOES EVERY DAY) AND THE OFFICERS ASKED HER (NOT YELLED) TO MOVE HER CAR. SHE SAID NO. NOT A "DO YOU MIND IF I WAIT" BUT NO ! SHE BLOCKED THE STREET FOR ALMOST 7 MINUTES. THIS WOMAN NEVER IDENTIFIED HERSELF AND ABSOLUTELY REFUSED TO MOVE HER CAR. I'VE SEEN THIS AT LEAST 5 TIMES THIS SCHOOL YEAR. I AM FROM A POLICE FAMILY ALSO, AND WOULD NEVER, EVER, TELL AN OFFICER THAT I REFUSE TO MOVE MY CAR. SHE WAS WRONG AND IF SHE GOT TICKETS, SHE DEFINITELY DESERVED THEM.

*citizen blocking the street at a school
*gets a citation on her vehicle after the fact at a different location
*is that a problem, is that a violation of parking ordinance GO's?

I think all dept members, regardless of assignment or rank (unless covert) should carry as many tools available to cover our asses out here

Those coppers were trying to do the right thing, hope it wont hurtthem in the end

we get called EVERYDAY for people who double park picking up their kids...let me guess, at taft was it?? anyway, if it wasnt maybe she should have just kept her big mouth shut and moved like we all do, and not have blocked the fricken street in the first place. and to threaten with an IAD call, over a ticket?? she must be one of these people who's not the police, but thinks she can say what she wants to whom because she know's someone who is the police WRONG!!!

to response posted at 01:13:15 AM:

its like i posted at 11:37:03 PM

if the tact car issued a ticket on the spot in front of the school, it will quash any problem that double parker may fabricate

alot of us TACTICAL OFFICERS feel writing a ticket is beneath us or traffic court is a pain in the butt

Carry as many tools as the dept allows us to cover our asses

Be safe and be smart

kateykakes - CPD is required to qualify only one time per year during a 30 round course. You need 21 rounds in (70%) to pass, and the first 24 are fired from 7yds. It is embarrassingly easy, yet every year hundreds of in-service POs fail to qualify and are sent to remedial training
