A Story to Warm your Heart

  • LAKELAND, Fla. Officers fired 110 rounds of ammunition at the man suspected of killing a sheriff's deputy, according to an autopsy and records released by the sheriff's office Saturday.

Angilo Freeland - who was suspected of fatally shooting the deputy after being pulled over for speeding Thursday - was hit 68 times by the SWAT team members' shots, the examination showed.

He also was suspected of wounding a deputy and killing a police dog.
Not only did the local SWAT team send this human garbage off to the deepest reaches of hell in a number of tiny little pieces, they did it with a 61% hit rate, which is at least double the hit rate that usually seen in any police shooting.

Any bleeding heart liberals out there want to start whining about "excessive force" yet?

I said it before, and I'll say it again.....

Bring back the REAL Firearms Instructors... Don Evangelista, Jack Manfre, Bobby Stevens, Phil (Forgot his last name darn it! -- A fellow Rottweiler owner tho...)

We too can increase our hit ratios....

While we are at it, our favorite old 23-Tac guy Paul V. Paul put OC spray on the map for us... He went through it by the gallon, bless him! His fist to fist fighting skills are legendary as well.

What I'd give to return to the days of my Daddy's police dept!

I think you forgot the good parts of the Sheriffs quotes, what a guy who isn't afraid to speak the truth!

Polk County Sheriff Grady Judd said he was not concerned by the number of shots fired.

"You have to understand, he had already shot and killed a deputy, he had already shot and killed a K-9 and he shot and injured another deputy," Judd said by phone Saturday. "Quite frankly, we weren't taking any chances."

Ten SWAT officers surrounded Freeland on Friday as he hid beneath brush and a fallen tree in a rural area. Authorities say he raised the gun belonging to the deputy he had killed, prompting nine officers to fire.

"I suspect the only reason 110 rounds was all that was fired was that's all the ammunition they had," Judd said. "We were not going to take any chance of him shooting back."

No excessive force.. The garbage shot and killed a K9 officer, his Police Dog, and shot another deputy in the leg while they were tracking him.

This skum-bag deserved all 68 shots.

This isn't a "liberal" issue or a "conservative" one. From all appearances it was a good shooting of man who presented a clear danger to society.

Obviously I don't have access to the offical reports and witness statements, but from here I don't see a problem and I'm about as "liberal" as they come. This guy has already demonstrated his willingness to kill without mercy. What officer in his or her right mind--irrespective of their politics--would risk letting him get the drop on them?

This looks like Suicide By Cop. If he wanted to stay alive he could have hired a lawyer or called the media and turned himself in at the nearest police facility. No dice, so he's gone. Only his mother weeps. Stay safe.

Polk County Sheriff "That's all the bullets we had or we would have shot him more". Let's remind ourselves that most of the country does not have the cultural norms and values of the People's Republic of Chicago. Only Michael Savage is making a BIG deal about the fact that this offender was an M/1 and also an illegal alien. But we wouldnt have known that here, because we cant ask anyone their immigration status. How many PO's are killed or injured by illegals each year? The number is STAGGERING but the statistic is not kept by Justice Dept. Check out the Officer Down Memorial page www.odmp.org.

Lets stay safe ourselves.

Did you see the comment the police boss down there made when asked about the number of rounds fired? He said that they ran out of ammunition or otherwise they would have fired more rounds! That IS truly hilarious!

All cops need bigger bullets and better marksmanship! Follow your training; You’re not supposed to have to track down cop killers. You’re supposed to get these shitbags BEFORE they get you or your partner.

Getting better instructors is fine if YOU go and shoot. You must go and compete, get training at outlying schools, watch good shooters shoot, and use your head.

If this animal was here in Shitcago, and you go face to face with him, Call SWAT. I'd rather have them rain bullets at the bad guys with the nice stuff they carry.

If this assh*ole was in Chicago, the SWAT team would be ordered NOT to shoot this dirtbag. Chicago’s SWAT team, HBT, or whatever they want to call themselves at the present moment would NEVER shoot an assh*ole like this. Let’s take a look back a Det. Joseph Airhart Jr. fiasco—they left him for dead.

If we had an incident like in LA, with the POS’s that robbed the Bank of America, we would be f*cked big time!!!

This is no major rip on SWAT members, rather than the command staff who proudly state, “We’d rather not shoot anyone and end the situation peacefully.” Sometimes people’s lives have to end non-tragically by the police; especially when they shoot a fellow officer.

Although it is great that they put him down i can only imagine if that happened here. HBT has NEVER gotten the order to fire and probably never will unless it was maggie daley herself being held hostage. Even then i think it would have been a problem. i am glad to hear that justice was served and maybe i'll go work in florida one day.

If it's any consolation to my brothers here, I'll be in Florida within the next two days and will personally meet with with some of those involved in this incident, through a friendship I made over the last few years.
I will personally express my deepest sympathy on behalf of the Chicago Police Dept. to his Brothers in Blue and express OUR gratitude and sentiment on how well it was followed up!
Only the miles seperate us from our "Brotherhood" in this great nation.

to 11:40:58pm and 12:01:22am,

I resent you saying we left Joe Airhart for dead, we were ordered to stand down by the FBI. At the time of the incident we did not know Joe was one of ours, we were told he was a federal agent, therefore we stood down, we figured if the feds want to leave one of their guys in there dying who are we to argue with them. We then found out after the incident that Joe was one of us and detailed to the FBI, this did not sit well with anyone on the cpd. to this day chicago swat/hbt do not play nice with the FBI's chicago swat team. and as for not getting the order to go in and use deadly force against anyone you must be new to the job because this exact thing happen on 28 Aug 03 39th Wallace at the windy city core supply factory offender Salvador Tapia shot and killed by HBT google his name if you want to read the story. Our main function on Swat is to save lives if we can, this is the goal of all swat teams but we will shoot and kill you if you threathen us or a civilian. so get your facts straight before you post bogus info. I was on both of these jobs google both pf their names for the stories.....

True, HBT shot Tapia.
Finally an HBT kill.

And now the rest of the story.

Looking at the body at the morgue, he was shot in the top of the head. The wound exited below his jaw, and re-entered into his chest.
What this means is....Tapia was on the ground when he was "killed" by HBT. Read as: he was already down/dead, Likely from the other pistol caliber rounds in him before HBT showed up, possibly from one of his own.

HBT. To the Nimrod who said that CPD/HBT has never been given the order to take a dude out you are totally wrong. At 39/Wallace Cline gave that order and it was done. I think he was 1st Dep. at the time.
Balls!

wrong alice, he tried to kill himself by shooting himself from under the chin, the bullet travel under the skin from the chin all the way out the top of his forehead. I was there, one of my fellow officers shot him in the chest........ Forensics proved that it was HBT rounds that killed him.........not his own......once agian get your facts sraight before you open up your mouth...... I will give some credit to some unknown cops or capt from 009 who also was able to hit him with a round to the arm.....

Man! A whole lot of hate on the SWAT Team!! Although I will be prejudiced here and state my opinion that the precursor to today's SWAT, the old High Risk Entry Team, did it faster and better, this SWAT team is doing it's best, and they really have some good people on the team. There are still apparently some leadership issues to work out there, but they finally seem to be moving towards the right track. One Sgt. there who transferred into SOS/SWAT from the old HRET grew a very big head, which was eventually deflated by a boss when he was thrown out on his arse. He's now working in 016 on midnights, and not many people on the SWAT Team miss the cocksucker.

Reaching into the past? Before SWAT, High risk entry and all the other bloated B.S. units you just called robbery and they sent out what was called the heavy Equipemnt car. 2 Dets. and a Sgt. Thats it. Worked perfectly. Those people were FEARED. Shot first and asked questions later. And certainly killed more bad guys in one year than all these new B.S. units will ever kill. Just because it's new don't mean it's better.
