Evidently, the city is now throwing all the qualified applicants into a pool with a "randomly" assigned number based on the position of the sun in the southern sky on the 5th Tuesday of the month, but only when Saturn is in the seventh house...

This system of hiring "randomly" insults our intelligence. But, I have to give Daley and the rest of the political hacks some credit for having the AUDACITY to try and pull the wool over our eyes when Fitzgerald is in town sweeping things up. I think there should be an independent or Federally appointed agent to over see the "randomness" of this selection process for both police and fire new hires. If the selection process is transparent for all to see, then I can see some legitimacy, but if the "randomness" is conducted behind the curtain, then I have to call bull shit. And I'd also point out that there is no penalty involved in following every single policy, procedure and guideline to the exact letter. Public Safety cannot strike, period. The only thing we can do is be like 025 and a few other north side districts did a few years ago, NOTHING! no movers, parkers, curfews, bus checks, arrests etc. Just answer calls in a timely manner, taking as much time as is needed for each call; everyone gets a report for everything! no talking people out of it or making a burglary a cdtp etc. let the stats spike! only arrest when absolutely needed, domestics etc. let the public know how few officers are actually working out there. 04:02:31 is correct. The Brass has been working for well over a year on a new program for grading officers. The grade will be by activity, injuries, etc. If your grade is below a certain level you will be a personel concern and can get seperated from the CPD.
The dept has taken the Theory X style of management to the fullest. They hate us!!! If you don't think that your wrong. The special people are already in special places and won't have to worry about this. Those that think they can hide are dead wrong. The dept is determined to get the fullest out of those that work the street (The people they don't care about). They don't care if they have to fire you. This is the citys #1 goal in the upcoming union contract. They have crossed their I's and dotted their T's with the corp counsel. The FOP is aware of this. The FOP is waiting for the final draft to see how it might violate the union contract we currently have.
Those of you who blast the FOP should listen to them once and a while. Several people have also suggested the same thing the FOP always suggests. Follow the dam GO's!!!!!!! Why do officers constantly take burglar alarms 99???? Make someone go with you. If a car isn't available make a Sgt go with. The days of getting breaks are over. I wonder if that retired exempt taught the entrance exam class, after he gave the answer away to his pals on the detectives' test, on company time, on company property. The fop (lower case letters used, for a lower case organization) buckled, towed the company line and said this now retired exempts detective exam class was open for everyone. Once again selling us out. We need to make changes, we need for the last names of the bosses to change too, not just the first ones. We need solidarity. We need to look out for one another, take care of our own.
If only half of the coppers working on a particular day did not write movers, parkers, impoundments, this city would grind to a halt. If watch officers do what they have to, no more, no less, it would cripple the department and no unit could compensate.
